A question, do you need an enhanced licence to fly with a motor, or still covered under your standard glider licence?

absolutely amazing flight, I managed firth of thames a few ks up the coromandel but turned around, I was in a single Astir, not much data those days ie computers etc 1983 and in a club ship didn't want to cause a retrieve, but got back to matamata ok and was pleased with my flight thanks for the ride! love the beat up of the camp site lol :)

Absolute EPIC flight! OH PLEASE post the unedited long version, OH PLEASE!!! While the edits keep it to the point you don't get as much of the sense of going somewhere. It would be real nice to see how you worked your way to the tip of the peninsula and back.

Hey thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately I just can't leave the camera running the whole flight, it uses too much data and battery on the camera, so just focus on the key decision points. Also in this case it wouldn't be very interesting, as I didn't loose much height, i was simply flying in a straight line at around 2000 feet! Couldn't have been easier :) If it helps I have the flight traces listed in the description so you can see exactly where I went for the whole flight. The SeeYou cloud version you can play through.

Thanks! I won't show you the raw footage then :) A lot of it is post-stabilised. Actually I can show you some raw footage! here are some first attempts kzbin.info/www/bejne/joPKemt3rJKbitE
@flyeatsleeprepeat3 жыл бұрын
@@PureGlide not bad at all! :) it seems that in-camera stabilization is very decent... and with some PP it gets buttery smooth :) I use Sony RX100 mk2 (besides Nikon Z6), but plan to upgrade for the next season... might be ZV-1 or one of the latest RX100... Sony makes some great compact cams, very convenient to be used in the cockpit...
@PureGlide3 жыл бұрын
@@flyeatsleeprepeat Yeah the ZV-1 is great, the only downside is it is not very wide angle. Equivalent of 24mm-70mm, and then it crops in when 'active' stabilisation is on. Although you can turn it off in camera and use Catalyst Browse to stabilise later. I haven't yet tried that, but should. It records Gyro data for that purpose. I have a GoPro 8 for wide angle anyway, so thought the two would be a good combo.
@PureGlide3 жыл бұрын
@@flyeatsleeprepeat A couple of those shots were post stabilised, you can tell because they 'blur' the glider sometimes. That's the slower shutter rate bluring the picture, then the stabilisation on top. It looks a bit like a car stereo bass blurring the image. So I learned you have to shoot with a high shutter rate if post stabilising.

Great video Tim, I was not aware that one had such good hill soaring slopes so far up the Coromandel coast line. Sure beats anything we have in kangaroo land or as Kiwis say “across the ditch.” Me can’t wait to live in New Zealand. I hate Aussie’s stinking overlasting long hot summers getting hotter every year. Or as the pop-song goes..... .”Rhonda Rhonda help me ! Cheers, Richard L or Vimana Man.
@PureGlide3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Richard! Yeah pretty good eh, although Australia has its perks too, I've flown in Kingaroy and Benalla now, although it's flat in parts, its' not THAT flat everywhere and was a lot more interesting flying than I thought it would be :)
@Flying2ZC3 жыл бұрын
That ridge is sick Ive just tracked your route on STGlider. Weren't kiddin about lack of land out options. Having an iron thermal helps :-)
@PureGlide3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! In reality we were in glide of a lot of airstrips the whole time. And once we're on the main ridges we knew they were working well, so was never in danger of not having somewhere to landout. The engine isn't that reliable, it's best to think of it as a 'save a road retrieve' instead of 'save from not having somewhere to land'. There should always be somewhere to land!

Your videos are great! I have a question though, how many extra batteries for your GoPro do you bring with you on an average flight
@PureGlide4 жыл бұрын
Hi yes 1 battery does not last, although it nearly does, as I turn the camera on/off, I don't leave it running the whole flight. So I have a USB power brick and charge it from that, but it only does so when not recording.
