I like how Caine fundamentally doesn't understand why everyone wants to leave, and tries to make the "exit" part of the map.

Or more accurately that Caine cannot comprehend the concept of an outside world or conceptualize it, so all he can do is recreate it based off what the others tell him. He has some loose understanding that there is an "outside world" where humans come from, but he doesn't really understand where it is in relation to him, or how they get in to his world. He's an AI and to him, the Circus IS his universe.

Yknow, i just had a thought. Im amazed that nobody had a lasting reaction to Kaufmo abstracting. Pretty much everyone brushed it off more than anything, with Caine even making a joke about his abstracting. There doesn’t seem to be a way of “dying” in the digital circus, but abstracting is the closest thing to it; completely losing your mind, your body becoming something atrocious and violent, with no remnant of what used to be “you”. With Kaufmo, that was straight up just a dude _dying,_ someone they might’ve known for a long time, and they brush it off like it’s nothing. Hell, I’m surprised Pomni didn’t even say anything (though they did look disgusted after Caine’s joking demeanor about it.)

I'll be honest: I had no idea who this was made by, or what it was, until I went and checked it out for myself. I had heard of it way prior to its actual release, I think? But I never saw anything about it until now. This is an absolute masterpiece, and I loved all of it. The animation feels alive, and concepts feel adapted very well into its own universe, as expected. ​@@Shane-impact A.I. traps multiple people for their enjoyment, messing with their appearances. You even got characters being a-holes for their own enjoyment or just to break up the endless monotony. Then you have some characters trying their best to help the group in spite of their fate. And another character on the brink of insanity. Interesting "giving up" here seems to turn you into some amorphous glitch akin to IHNMAIMS' title reference trapped alive, and aware? in a void (which also seemingly causes constant agony). Whereas in IHNMAIMS they just offed themselves (which isn't really giving up there, since that's as close as they can get to 'escaping'). Im rambling 💀

Not too many people have actually been in that stereotypical isekai place where you say to yourself "this is a dream, that's the only explanation," and then you realize that it's not a dream, and in that moment you don't know what's real anymore. But Pomni's reaction to it seemed the most real I've ever seen. Oh and especially her portrayal at the end.

God the psychological trigger of having a home made meal is incredibly powerful. It automatically adjust your brain to start considering the place you’re eating safe and a shelter, but the disassociation between that and the reality really drives home the idea that she’s trapped against her will, yet that she has an incredible urge to claw her way out somehow (I have no mouth but I must scream). It’s an incredibly terrifying and unfortunately relatable feeling for many of us.

All the actors here did such an incredible job but I'd like to give my personal kudos to Lizzie Freeman as Pomni. I genuinely don't think I've ever heard a performance that was so simultaneously hilarious, horrifying, and heartcrushingly sad. I love the way the scenarios play out and how they're depicted like it's some little silly shenanigan. The very idea of any of these characters suddenly becoming "abstracted" and having their mind fall apart and lose all sense of the person they once were can happen with absolutely no way of fixing them once they get to that state and everyone just plays it off like it's some accident in the workspace by the end and nothing more. Even Caine just sort of puts Kaufmo away like sweeping some mess under a rug, which from seen in the cellar, isn't the first time this has happened. Good stuff overall, can't wait to see where this series goes when the next episode comes out in like 4-6 years

I feel like the cast of “characters” are all pretty accurate to their situation. I feel like each one has a different way of coping with the endless digital place they’re trapped in. Kaufmo, by literally going insane Jax, coping with comedy, sarcasm, etc. Pomni, literal denial Ragatha, by helping others instead of worrying about it. Kinger, being.. him Gangle, by just actually being mega depressed about it. And Zooble, by straight up not caring I wonder what we’ll see in the future of this series, it’s really well written I think, also very very funny when it tries to be, and serious when it needs to be.

Spoilers and Analysis: "I do have to apologize for lying about the exit. I knew how much all of you have been wanting there to be one, but, you know, I was having so much trouble figuring out what to put on the other side..." That line is terrifying on so many levels, and I love it. It's spoken like a parent apologizing to their kids on Christmas, "I'm sorry I didn't get you the toy you wanted, I tried to make something like what you described, but nothing seemed right." As for why this is terrifying, it's because of _what_ the failed item is: The Exit. A way out. Something to send them back to the real world. This is a concept that all of us know and understand, but Caine (the de facto ruler of this reality) _doesn't_. No, to him, an exit has to have something on the other side, something that he would be the one to build. It invites the question of what other human concepts does Caine not understand, and what potentially horrifying things he's implementing as his "best guess"?

The dangerous part is what failures could he come up with and test as part of his guess-timates on what an Exit is. Although...Was it just me, or were there _two_ exit doors? The red ones we got over and over, but then that outside orange one...Did it's arrow point inwards, while the red ones pointed outwards? And this is just a complete shot in the dark for "C&A", but could it be the biblical "Caine and Abel"? It's a stretch, and I have been reading too many SCPs, but...There is a fair amount of reference to God here. Especially the line, "God, where is Caine?" And the prayer was then answered, though not directly. Just wanted to throw that idea out there.

I think Pomni is going through the 5 stages of grief throughout the whole story. Denial: She starts with Denial. She's in shock and is in full panic mode, and before she completely melts down, she convinces herself this is all a bad dream. Anger: She isn't angry per se, but she's anxious and frustrated. She's in a new world where nothing makes sense, she dissociates in from of Raggatha and Jax, and has difficulty staying present. Bargaining: She wants to visit Kaufmo in the hopes that he knows where the exit is. She wants to learn more from what he may know so she can leave. While the others know it's a dead end, she's desperate for answers. Depression: The threshold is when she sees her reflection. It's her first time seeing her new appearance and while it's not shocking, it makes her feel overwhelmed. Then she finds the exit and goes through only to find an endless maze of doors through Backroom-like hallways and offices. Here is where she finally realizes it's hopeless and gives into depression and helplessness. Even after she is saved by Caine in the Void, she doesn't say a single word for the rest of the episode because she has lost all hope. Acceptance: Then there is the final scene. Pomni is still quiet, staring blankly while everyone else is moving on with their day, and she slowly cracks a creepy, grim smile. Because she has come to terms that this is her life now. There is no more order, no more safety, there is only the Circus and the only way to survive and keep living is just to accept it and move on like everyone else seems to have.

I don't think Kinger has gone 'insane' the way the show treats the word in the sense that he's on the verge of abstraction due to problems with the show/being trapped. I think he's more just schitzophrenic/paranoid or has developed some mental instability over time rather than actually losing all grounding like Kaufmo. He still behaves like a normal person there's just a slight disconnect.

10:57 I just realized this and people have most definitely commented on this, but jax having keys to everyone's room and saying "you've all been fine" is just implying (in my opinion) that he's been checking on everyone to make sure they are okay. Since there have obviously been those who lost it, so it's honestly sweet that since he has keys he checks on everyone. While still pranking them as well, he does care and worry for them. Yep! Even though it may not seem like it, Jax truly does care for the other circus members. He's just hiding it because that's his coping mechanism. I love Pomni's smile at the end so much. The most forced of forced smiles. Finally getting to acceptance that there is no escape, no convenient exit door that leads to freedom and if you obsess over finding your escape you could end up like Kaufmo. I gotta give props to the entire team, the animation is amazing, the models are great, the music I could listen to for hours, and the writing is great, its so awesome when the first episode manages to have multiple stories that converge but also shows off the personality of each character perfectly, one episode in and I already know I’m gonna love Kinger
