The way Gummigoo expressions shift when Pomni mentions his name, first is surprise she knows his name, then shock and then he becomes sad and tries to reach her with his hand. And later when she goes out to talk to him as he is leaving, he makes a sad expression and the song that played when they were bonding in episode 2 plays, really makes me think he remembered her. She seems to have noticed it too, and just let him go instead.

The split second conversation between pomni & jax is super interesting. He actually asks how she's doing and she almost is open until she realizes who's she's talking to and quickly clams up. For the first time, Jax is open about feeling crappy and says "see ya" in a chill way, which is odd (& pomni looks confused about it too) bc he treated her like a person rather than a tool for his own entertainment.

Makes sense that Zooble is the one comforting Gangle at the end. Ragatha is always cheerful and supportive, but as Gangle said, it can be hard to tell how genuine she's being. If she actually likes you and wants to help, or if she's just being the "nice one" as her own method of coping. Meanwhile, Zooble is always genuine. Never puts up a front or pretends to like anything. Words of support can be nice, but sometimes some "real talk" is more comforting than all of that. And it helps that Zooble does seem to really care, as well.

Even though Pomni is basically the main character of the series, I suspect that TADC is really Zooble's story. Pomni is a transformative character, and it's her actions changing the people around her. If you think about it, Pomni helped bring Kinger out of his shell in the last episode, and that's likely part of what prompted him to step up here, forcing Zooble to go on the adventure. Zooble is the one on a character arc, going from disaffected to caring about the others.

The way Zooble has her back and is trying to help Gangle be more comfortable in her own body too is so sweet, and how Pomni was willing to sit down and talk to Gangle and help her, even covering the closing shift at the end...

Now thinking about it Ragatha seems like the type of person that wants to be a hero to satisfy her hero complex than out of genuine kindness because the only real reason Ragatha would prefer it when she was depressed was probably because she could help her out. I think Pomni said it best in episode 2, "Im not a child, you don't have to hype me up". To Pomni (at that point), Ragatha's not really being genuine and moreso treating her like a kid rather than an actual person. At best, the others see Ragatha as somewhat ingenuine with her approaches while she believes she isn't and at worst, she has a severe hero complex.

I share in that. I never even made it to cook; I was trapped in Dishwasher, bounced around to restaurant after restaurant. Some of them were nice - Crackle Barrel was probably the best one, ironically - but the last place I worked at broke me. Dishwasher, prep cook, delivery driver, cashier, and waiter. They literally forced me to work every station. And I did it. Through blood and sweat, I did it. And then they fired me. "Lacking motivation" they said. I was doing five different jobs, and asking to move full time to Driver because I enjoyed it. How is that a lack of motivation? That company has a terrible habit of firing employees left and right - I was just another cog in the wheel, and once I wasn't useful enough anymore, I was thrown out and replaced. Jobs like that, they sap your motivation if you do them for too long. To get your footing, that's a great start, but when you're in them for years, past the point where it's reasonable, it can make you stop and think about the direction you're life is going in. Gangle's moment just before the end, where she took off the mask, threw it away, and ran out, smiling through her tears... Yeah, that was an allegory for depression and trying a medication that doesn't work or is a placebo. I've been there too. Life is heavy and life is cruel. And I'm not gonna lie, the scene of her getting hit by the truck is a big check box in the "This is purgatory" theory. Which... I kinda hope it isn't, because if it is, why is an AI controlling purgatory. That's silly. Also, love the icon and name. RWBY is great.

It made it feel realistic, and tense, the kind of way you’d feel when you know someone is miserable and there’s nothing you can do about it. I’m glad they made a slower episode, because all of the characters got a lot of development and we got to see their personalities in a more normal environment, instead of the usual wacky places they’d be in. @Spider-in-the-kinkyboots-p1uАй бұрын
@@frozenfoxgames5300I think it’s basically when the character completely gives up all hope or succumbs to an obsession. Example: Kaufmo abstracted whilst looking for an exit to the Circus. The short film about him, despite being non-canon, shows this pretty well, so I’m guessing that he abstracted as a direct result of this, as he could never find the exit. I also get the feeling that Pomni came close to abstracting in the Pilot, when she saw the monitor in the office maze. She looked absolutely deranged, and I think that’s when she lost it. As for Gangle here, it’s the stress of being a shift manager piling up on her shoulders and crushing her. She couldn’t take it anymore, and so she came REALLY close to abstracting. This is just my theory, feel free to correct me.

Edit: Watched the chapter again, I noted Gangle says to Jax she has a manic episode, that explains why she started dancing/moving erratically and fell to the traffic, and how she looked so sad when she realized what she had done. I also relate. Mania isn't being too happy, it's more of a state where you're too agitated and "excited", but not actually happy, just makes you more impulsive, more irritable, more alert, more unstable. Gangle is a perfect representation of both depression and bipolar disorder

I like how as the episode continues, gangle starts acting more like her sad mask self, when she clocks out and talks to pomni, she slouches, fidgets with her hands, and starts talking as she usually would with her sad mask. I just love how everyone is slowly and truly turning back into a normal being in a ‘normal life’. Like, Jax’s broken and tired personality, ragatha’s tired and lazy work even if she’s the one helping the others in the last episode. Pomni’s desperate attempt to talk to gumigoo, and gangles depressed side. You can feel and tell that everyone in the circus is just tired and wants to leave. Even Caine just glitched after gangle left the office. I also saw some hidden hints on the next episode. Edit: I’ve also seen that C&A’s logo is in caine’s office and the fast food. The company that propably also turned everyone of them into character’s in this digital circus.

After 45 watches of this episode, here is EVERY detail I noticed: 0:10 you can see the couches in the background 0:27 the song that plays here is called 96 mile per hour fastball, looks like gangle nailed it on her first try. Also Jax looks prideful as he’s hitting the ball but when he hears gangle in pain his smile wavers. It really was an accident. 0:30 two of the most well hidden THINGS in digital circus. First of all, guy in the background. Npc hiding behind the green. Second, the foreshadowing. Previous episodes were obvious, there’s foreshadowing at the beginning of each one. But they were very surface level. Episode 1 was the exit door. Episode 2 was the clipping. Episode 3 was “try not thinking about it” but this episode is different. Ragatha first offers her persona’s idea of help. A fake kind of compassion she uses to not hurt anyone’s feelings. It obviously doesn’t work. Then Zooble comes in and offers gangle a favor sourced from real compassion, freeing gangle from a burden. This has a double meaning. First it’s foreshadowing for Ragatha’s illusion and the realization of that breaking gangle, but secondly for pomni’s attempt at helping gangle. She first tries compassion, a heart to heart. An improvised therapist for the rest of the circus. But that doesn’t work, so she later tries a seemingly more shallow but far more effective method of help. All gangle needs is a favor, a relief from a burden to instantly feel better. The change in her mood is disproportionally significant to the favor, because she’s so desperate for anything good at all to happen to her that when something finally does it’s overwhelming. This is normal, I’ve been there. The tiniest thing can make you the happiest you’ve ever been. 0:40 the argument continues with *Jax: why do you always make me out to be the bad guy? Ragatha: JAX Jax: I’m not really a bad guy! Ragatha: Oh right, of course, what was I thinking? Jax: if I wanted to hit her I would’ve just… I woulda just… knocked it in her face Ragatha: it’s not your fault, she obviously hit HERSELF with the ball! Jax: I woulda hit her and I would’ve been PROUD of it! Ragatha: can’t you find another way to amuse yourself that doesn’t involve torturing people?! Jax: I’m just always the bad guy…* 0:44 bottom right. Dice read 57. Pomni has dice like that in her room too. 1:13 incomplete animation in that mirror 1:22 and again 1:32 the website from before the episode released reveals that Caine probably just rapidly repurposed assets from this original adventure to the new one, the burgers are made of human meat after all. Maybe spudsy was originally the violent psychopath butcher 1:40 after Caine shakes bubble, he starts slowly rotating and just doesn’t stop for the whole shot 1:44 pomni is NOT that close to Caine in either elevation or distance, what is going on with this perspective? Also the music stops when Caine stops making his announcements 1:45 everyone else is already looking at pomni and kinger takes like 4 seconds to register he should zone back in. Relatable. 1:52 the more pomni talks, the more disturbed Zooble becomes. When she’s done talking, pomni can be seen quivering lightly 2:31 music starts back up again 2:35 the card is blank 2:39 long arm 2:41 caine zipping his teeth is the funniest thing since Caine closing his teeth when he pouts in episode 3 2:58 them not knowing who wrote it is important. I don’t know how it’s important, but it’s important. 3:02 Caine just tosses the suggestion box forever 3:30 gangle and Jax are standing in completely different spots now, and also gangle’s mask doesn’t cast a shadow 3:32 they probably did this because kinger would steal the spotlight after last episode was perfect because of him. He’s too good of a character, and gangle would never get the focus in her own episode 3:53 firstly lore drop, they can remember their past lives. Not just kinger. Secondly look at the interaction between pomni and ragatha. That looks like a low tension communication, looks like they’ve gotten past the events of episode 1 4:03 Jax, Caine JUST told you to get your non slip shoes ready. But did you listen? No. 4:06 the store next door is called “vroom vroom tires” 4:09 pickles for 70 dollars, *the slab* for 31 cents, mega mega stack for 1 dollar, and Dobby dog for 57.57 4:12 one of my favorite running jokes in the episode is pomni not being tall enough to see the register. It’s just so funny 4:13 interestingly the song that starts playing right now is NOT called “manager mode” 4:30 buff ragatha on the poster? 4:38 poster in the background. “Cam style, extra cheese”. The paper above Jax’s shoulder isn’t important btw 4:46 So. Much. Stuff. First of all, Caine was drawing bees. Hilarious stuff. When he ran out of space, he drew a bee on the contract looking paper. Second, C and A on his computer and a sticky note in the background. Third, 57 under that painting in the background. Next to that are books about bees. And then one about Frank? Weird. Assdfhhadif. Next is presumably xddcc, but it could just say XO. Next to it is a book literally just labeled “matpat theory”. Then a book labeled “mind freak” and then two books about the sun and moon. In between them is a book labeled *egg* and above all of them are books about gloinks. Below all of this is a book referencing murder drones, a bunch of unmarked books, and one interestingly labeled xdcc. I don’t know why it’s not marked correctly, maybe it has lore significance. At the top is a golden balloon dog, and in the top left is a teapot referencing the first ever 3d render. The books on the very bottom are about gloinks again. Next to the C and A on the sticky note from earlier is another sticky note that reads: Pos login. User: spud. Code: 464624 (I think, this one is blurry) There’s an identical copy of this on the cash register. The smiley face can be seen at a distance on lower resolutions, so you don’t need me to point it out. 4:49 gangle has Caine as “da boss” in her phone and it says “6:59 AM” 4:52 Jax wrote “I don’t care” on his name tag and his eyebrows go overtop his hat 5:07 the papers in the background don’t matter 5:22 C and A on the box 5:29 license plate says 57 5:31 the text in the background isn’t important 5:36 short pomni and Zooble grabs a spatula using a spatula hand 5:37 Hello I’m ready to order 5:43 ragatha *spawns in* 5:51 that’s right it’s me orbsman. Could I order the classic number 57 value meal? 5:58 pomni gets the order right 6:01 the off brands here are hilarious. Splash cola and light splash cola. Youma, mizu water, and hoop. All of this from a mppep dispenser. To the right we’ve got ice beans. 6:04 Jax is understandably weirded out when gangle *spawns* 6:07 orbsman in the background 6:13 “please remember to clock out on time” 6:17 the best running joke of all is the npc’s trying to figure out what to do with their food. They keep putting it up to their faces and get confused when nothing happens. Many npcs can be seen doing this in the background. 7:07 that is definitely important. This is what confirms Caine is the villain. He can be truly awful if he chose to, he just doesn’t want to. 7:24 pomni finally gets something to stand on ONLY so she can be knocked off of it for comedic effect 7:53 that subtle little lean in 7:55 remember to be on the lookout for confused npcs, these guys are hilarious. I also love their GIANT WAR RIG being in the parking lot. And then it’s followed right up with such a good dirty joke. Max is so innocent. 8:01 stupid little mouse thing returns after her appearances in episodes 2 and 3 8:43 what’s he reading about 8:51 gumigoo’s look here isn’t important, he hadn’t told pomni his name yet and took a second to realize she somehow already knew it 9:22 I have a theory. C and A are a distribution company in this episode, and the building next door is the distribution center. Spudsy’s and C and A are closely associated. It is entirely possible the building Caine is in is right next door, in that distribution center. 9:32 this is the culmination of the npc joke. He just keeps putting the cereal on his face even though it falls to the floor every time. 9:40 300 cheeseburgers for all my precious spawn 9:57 in German the gloinks are named Uzi, V, and Cyn 9:59 ragatha first tries to climb up using her… leg. 11:24 those are kinger’s hands btw 11:33 since we didn’t see what they were doing from 7:00 to 12:00, it’s not unrealistic she could have made this in the time we don’t see them 11:44 the animation on the ribbons is so fun, the way she wags her “finger” is golden 11:48 for those that somehow haven’t seen, gangle loves to draw. We didn’t know why until now. 13:08 that’s important 13:31 raggedy Andy reference 14:06 this shot lingering on Zooble is important, it’s her first realization that gangle is not doing okay. Good use of composition to make SURE you know that. Pomni later realizes that she doesn’t have any family-esque connection to gangle like she does kinger and ragatha, so she can’t help beyond the way she does in the end. It’s Zooble, gangle’s only true friend, that helps gangle in the long term. 15:17 what a perfect interaction. No words acknowledging how Jax has grown, he’s humbled and possibly forever changed. Any one of any age, even people not paying attention can figure out the meaning of this. With the most casually written dialogue, impeccable line deliveries, and exceptional animation, a whole character arc concludes. 15:29 poor ragatha is struggling (Continued in reply)
@minecrafter34484 күн бұрын
16:50 a shot doesn’t just linger for over 8 seconds if it doesn’t want you to stop and think. So think. What was pomni doing for the hour that we don’t see her? She could only be thinking. She successfully while completely winging it served as a makeshift therapist to 2 others. Yet when she attempted to console gangle, she might have made things even worse. During this hour she was calculating why. What makes gangle different from kinger and Gumigoo? Why was she so resistant to pomni’s traditional help? I think this is the most impactful moment in the entire episode. Not the big moment with the music, or Jax’s line from earlier, but this. Pomni. Sitting outside. Contemplating what gangle needs. 17:01 they replaced the clock 17:51 Zooble CHOSE to stay on an adventure. Of her own free will. This is a major character moment, and I think she might return for future adventures. Either that or she just values gangle’s mental health so much she continues on with something she hates just to keep gangle from losing it. Or both. 17:54 I highly recommend everyone watch this in 0.25x speed. The light speed ragatha antics are so good. Meanwhile poor gangle is too deep in thought to even move. Been there. Very realistic. 18:18 gangle was about to abstract here. The editing, the music, it’s all giving the clear sign that gangle is completely unstable right now and can be pushed all the way with the slightest breeze. 18:35 it took me a long time to understand what this scene meant. Maybe 30 watches. The music reminded me of something, and I couldn’t decipher it. It gave me a feeling of hopeful uncertainty. It’s here though that I became confused for a long while. For my first few watches, I assumed I would just realize something big and obvious yet well hidden like with “try not thinking about it” in episode 3. But that never came. Then I started thinking harder about it, I looked to the music with its uncertain hopefulness, to try to pull a meaning from that. For a while after that I believed since gangle was about to abstract and pomni prevented that with a DISTRACTION from the horrors of her life, she was just overwhelmingly gleeful for being saved. But the more I thought about it, the less the behavior of the characters made sense around the idea. And then I reached my current conclusion. In this scene, pomni finally figured out what gangle truly needs. What she needs is not a friend, but an act of kindness. A good deed that can spark just a tiny bit of joy and bring an internal revolution to someone on a cliff edge. The pure happiness so disproportional with the lifting of the burden because they need to cling to something, anything, with all of their might. Pomni couldn’t help gangle the same way she could the others, because they were never truly friends. They don’t know each other, they hardly interact. But what pomni could still do was be a good person. Notice how gangle withholds reacting at all to this, because if she accepts it and then it turns out to have unintended consequences even worse than the burden she originally had, it would break her. It’s only when she gets outside, safe from any backpedaling that she welcomes it with literally open arms. This of course isn’t a long term solution, your circumstances can’t last forever, pomni’s help only got gangle out of the hole. In the end it was Zooble, the only person to ever show gangle real genuine familial compassion that picked up the shovel and helped gangle fill it. This episodes message isn’t as powerful or well delivered as any of the previous ones, but the show has had an incredibly high bar so far with its mature themes conveyed exclusively through riddles that can’t always be lived up to. This episode is still a masterpiece despite the flaws in its clarity. 19:40 I thought at first that this was just cartoon logic, you can’t throw plastic that far. It doesn’t weigh much and has a high surface area. But then I remembered her 96 mile per hour fastball on her first try. This isn’t cartoon logic, she just threw the thing *really dang hard* 20:04 some of the most beautiful composition I’ve ever seen. The way it syncs with the music, makes her ribbons feel like wind, it flows so well. It changes the frame with each beat, until it lingers on the mask. Symbolism for how she’s done masking her emotions. Abandoned on the ground, left sitting there forever. 20:26 listen to the audio. No music. Only the clock ticking. It’s a lot like the restaurant, so much dependence on that clock. It was also a very quiet episode, the least music in the series so far. She feels like she’s right back where she was, and this way the audience feels that way too. What a way to revert a revelation like that. Until Zooble established that they’re friends, she was right back on the decline to where she was before, unstable and unhappy. 20:31 It took me way too long to realize this is the same office from earlier with a different perspective. There’s nothing new here. 21:13 THIS however very much has something new. It’s impossible to tell what he was looking at, but it looks VERY important. If we could see what was on that computer, it would be a bigger lore drop than the confirmation that Caine is the villain. I can’t read what it says, but I think I see the names of the circus members. 21:19 what was kinger DOING? 21:39 goofy ragatha being goofy Edit: I forgot one thing. At the end, gangle wipes away her tears and smiles so that her drama mask looks like her comedy mask. Her drama mask can’t break, implying she can now be happy without a need for a comedy mask. That’s all folks

15:20 I love this moment here. I only noticed this on my first rewatch, but I love how when jax asks pomni how she’s doing, pomni initially responds how she normally would to that question like she was talking to anyone else, until she realizes jax is the one who said it. I think this is really interesting as we’ve both never seen jax this defeated before and have never seen him say anything so genuinely nice before. Its such a small thing, but like he was completely genuine about this and he doesnt like follow it up with any sarcastic remark and even ends their conversation with “see you later pomni” as if he actually likes her company. Really cool to see how jax, for a second in time, opened himself up a little and just like had a casual conversation EDIT: Wanted to put this here as thats probably the best way people will see it (with this comment having 8k likes wowzas!); When Caine assesses gangle’s performance for the day there are two things I want to point out: One, The images teapots in the office is a reference to this one teapot(it has a name, I just forgot it) that many modelers use as a placeholder or test. It’s a really cool detail because an AI like caine would probably have that in his office lol. And two, I like how they set everything up in the episode to make you think when she has the chance to put the blame on jax, she doesnt. It wouldve undercut the impact of the scene before if she was like “ykw yeah I will lol”. Good job

so, I guess no one is gonna talk about the fact that pomni literally had to overcome such a great internal battle just so she could tell gumigoo to have a nice day rather than let him know what's' really happening. She could have ruined his life by telling him about what happened, but she decided to spare him. She decided its best if he doesnt know. also, I love that line "were doing one of these again" like yup pomni keeps having to help other people get through theyre struggles almost every other episode, I'm glad this episode was a little different, since pomni decided to help both gumigoo and Gangle without telling them anything. She lets Gangle go off early, just to let her know people cared about her, not about who she is with or without the mask. Anyways, cant wait for episode 5!

I really like how the true versions of the characters are starting to unravel. It seems like Gangle was a shift manager who wanted to be a comic artist before entering the circus, and the restaurant gradually reminds her of the past. Pomni, however, seems to try to help her like Kinger did for herself in the previous episode. I also like how Zooble comforted her as well. Pomni and Zooble have a sort of sisterly bond with Gangle here, and I love it. Pomni’s starting to adjust to the circus, this becoming better at handling the adventures. It really does raise question for who’s going to have the next emotional drop of lore in the next episode.

Shoutout to the person in the live chat that said ‘medication analogy’ bc yeah this ep very much hit in like a mental health metaphor way. ‘The new mask didnt work’ line at the end especially made me think about going through medication to help with mental health (depression, possible bipolar if you take the manic episode joke at more than face value? Whatever it might be) and it not working out. New meds can have all kinds of effects that don’t always work out. Also the line where Ragatha said that gangle’s kind of annoying when she’s not sad like. Man. Imagine trying to work out and be better and being told you’re more tolerable at your worst. Good episode, genuinely made me feel things :) love to see gangle spotlight

I think each character is based on a mental disorder like kinger having PTSD gangle maybe having multiple personality disorders because of the multiple masks
@sbkMulletManАй бұрын
I have bipolar and study psychology, and Gangle absolutely has it. I mean, it's a little on-the-nose with the duality of the theater masks, but that's likely how she was BEFORE she wound up in the Digital Circus, so her form fit her true self. As for medication, it is absolutely difficult treating Bipolar, because although pills work wonders, everyone has different brain chemistries, so FINDING the pills that work for you can be a needle in a haystack situation. Switching masks around was a good metaphor for medication. Owl House also did a damn good job with this symbolism, and Gangle likely has to find the same solution Eda did; in addition to "the medicine" that works, you have to make peace with yourself and your illnesses, because you're always going to have each other. Work together.

I know the common comparison for Gangle's new mask is that she is effectively masking and suppressing her emotions. But I also think it could go a step further. When I first watched this episode I thought the new plastic mask symbolized or was a placeholder for medication. Especially when at the end of the episode Zooble said "the new mask was a bust...I'm sure we'll find something that works eventually." Because something that people don't realize is that just because you begin medication doesn't mean you suddenly solve all your problems. Sometimes it can actually make it worse or compound the problem. It can be very disheartening to think you are getting better, that you're taking the right steps and everyone says you aren't or that you were better off before you started getting medicated. It's a process, sometimes the dosage is wrong or sometimes you need to switch to a different medication. Although I can definitely see why people attribute the new mask as more of a coping mechanism and I do agree with that interoperation, but I just wanted to get my thoughts out there to.

Dang, I hadn't thought about it that way. I love that interpretation though, the idea that you can do all the good stuff and still not feel better can be really tough to get through.

my brain went to the exact same place, and as somebody who searched for years to find the right combination of medications, this feels like a really accurate portrayal of that.

I personally am extremely uninformed on such topics, but the mask being an allegory for medication was my first thought on my first watchthrough of the episode, especially with the "I feel normal, in a good way" in the beginning, felt very much like she felt it was influencing her in a good way, and then the way she grows more manic as it becomes clear its not working out for her- and yeah the comment at the end really sealed it for me, it makes me wonder if you could expand this comparison of the idea of replacing parts being a form of medication in how they alter themselves, specifically in how Zooble feels uncomfortable with their body and has been trying out loads of new parts. The fact it was Zooble who introduced Gangle to the mask also adds to this- a friend with experience here offering something that might fit for Gangle Definitely my new favourite episode all in all, likely in part due to Gangle being my favourite character

Yeah I went through like 6 antidepressants before landing on the one I'm on now. It's the only one that's worked for longer than a year. Such a nice feeling when you finally do find the right one.

I love the detail Pomni has when Jax asks how she’s doing, where she makes a face at him as she says "I’m doing fine", almost like she’s expecting him to go about his usual antics. It’s a nice detail since she still doesn’t like him, but it was a change of pace when seeing he wasn’t having any of it.

I actually loved seeing more from Jax this episode. I like the moments where he’s just acting normal and not rude.

Yeah. It was satisfying to see Gangle finally getting back at him (in a way), and I felt vaguely sorry for him by the end of this episode.

I watch this with my 70 year old dad, and he said what he likes most about TADC are the "small moments of kindness" like when Pomni offers to close for Gangle, or Zooble reassuring Gangle they're cared about and to join their group again. His favorite was last episode with Kinger comforting Pomni ❤

Gangle slowly learning that she doesn’t need to mask her emotions is so sweet to see. Her smiling while still having tye tragedy mask, and whiping the tears off her face
