Perhaps those girls should study up on American humor before going on their show then? Just say'n. It's pretty entitled to think "I'm French, (or whatever) those judges need to understand MY humor" I mean, it is RuPaul's Drag Race so it would be smart to cater any humor to that person.

The judge choices are my only real issue. There’s enough judges that speak English that they didn’t need to go all American. And they could have brought in an American queen if they felt they needed at least one of them to be from the US! I'm truly excited about this season but I don't think that'll be fair in any way shape or form, I'm a Brazilian citizen and I could say that I have a very good English, enough to speak to someone who has English as their first language, but still it's really hard for me sometimes to really express myself in another language, I think that most of the cast will struggle with the language barrier even more than we already had seen in the other seasons. I think that queens like Miranda, gala, and other non English speakers will be at a big disadvantage going against someone like Alyssa or kitty.
@fdm21554 ай бұрын
Yes, English fluency is sure to be a factor. Native or near native speakers have an obvious edge when it comes to being funny, quick witted, etc
@storageheater4 ай бұрын
yeah, while I am constantly in awe of the English skills of non-native speakers, their *confidence* in their English is what trips them up, they don't think they're as good as I think they are, but then they're on the inside seeing all the hard work, every mistake and misheard word is a blow. A native speaker has a freedom to forget words and play with mistakes that they take for granted... even the best non-native speakers in this promo are making tiny compromises in speed and precision and that could be all the difference.
@_DROM_4 ай бұрын
@@ametriclord8027 not necessarily true. I mean look at Jessica Wild, for example. Language barriers might not be as much of a problem as the cultural barriers. The queens will have to find a common ground, learn to communicate their art. It'll be so good to watch, specially among Australians, Americans, Canadians and English. They all speak the same language and yet are so different in their expressions. This is gonna be fun!
@SheaMF4 ай бұрын
@@storageheaterYou have a very good point. And I say that as someone who’s learned English as French is my first language. I could express myself relatively ok in English when I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from the French speaking part of the country. I had also had decent writing skills learned at university. But everything changed for me the day that I realized it was ok to make mistakes, and that most inhabitants here weren’t native English speakers either (we have lots of immigrants here)! The confidence in your abilities is a key factor. You have to stop worrying about it and go for it. Now here we are, over 25 years later…I still make mistakes here and there, but so are native speakers. My work life has been in English the whole time, including working for the government for 16 years, and some of it was on a call centre environment. My kids (well they’re young adults) barely know any French, and in the past 6 years, I’ve made a living by working in TV and film, including acting. Of course, my command of the language has improved tremendously. But it all started with me not worrying about it and just going for it.
@zenbija4 ай бұрын
I'd hope that, for the purpose of this cast, the producers will introduce more challenges that don't rely on wordplay and verbal quickness, or too much learning lines in English. It certainly could be done. This is probably not the season for an improv challenge, but that's all right. For a lot of second-language speakers on English-language seasons, the barrier is the social vibe - all the other queens are gabbing in English and someone who takes a second to think of an English retort is left out of the conversation. Because of the diversity of this cast, I don't see that happening here. And I also think of queens who have made it part of their brand to be a little off-kilter in English. Jessica Wild, Yara Sofia, Choriza May come to mind.

If that's true, it could mean even less fairness in that panel. Not because the guest judge would be bias towards their countryqueen (🤭), but because they might not understand how the others do drag. As Vanity Vain said in her MTQ, a lot of well known music comes from Sweden, not just ABBA. Someone like Max Martin wrote so many songs for the likes of Britney Spears and N’Sync to name a few. The whole “it’s gonna be “meh” is because of that. I’ve watched all the seasons represented except for Italia 2 which I’m entertaining to watch prior to the premiere of Global AS. Most of these individuals that may be judges are not just focus on their specific country’s style of drag. They’re usually people of have world knowledge in their field of expertise. For example, I think one of the guest is Diana from DR Germany. She’s actually from the US originally. Most of these people should have open mind, and hopefully they’ve travelled a bit or have exposure to the world. Anyhow, as Gigi Goode said to RuPaul about her snatch game character: “I understand your concerns, but I don’t have the same concerns!” 😂 Personally speaking, the only thing that somewhat worries me on behalf of the queens is anything to do with comedy, and having to make Ru laugh. Humour is a very cultural thing; and it’s doesn’t always translate (and I’m not talking about language here) well, never mind individual preferences. That’s a big challenge to start. Now add to that having to be funny in a language that is not your native one, double pressure! Just think about the difference between British humour and American humour…the basis aren’t the same. Cultural references are different; yet, they speak the same language with some variations.
@_DROM_4 ай бұрын
@@colebeck6528 it could potentially be. If the scenario is: all the judges watch these queens in their original seasons and ask them basic questions, like, "what inspires your drag?" and "tell me about your craft", then yes, guest judges could potentially be unable to identify the queens references in their drag, their message, their thinking process when compared to the others

Lil' tidbit from my law classes at film school, another reason to film in Colombia (where they've been filming other seasons as well, like DRs Mexico and Brazil) is because, besides it being easy to get work visas for talent and crew, they have pretty lax labor laws for productions (the wild hours on telenovela productions being one example) and it's much cheaper to film there than in a lot of other countries because of government incentives, kind of how New Zeland is for movies, which is why a lot of Latin-American shows and even Netflix productions film there as well

For the audience of such an international season it's likely we'll have the subtitles on the whole time to not miss any queen's comments anyway, so would be much fairer and closer to the experience of the newfound international audience that would be buying into and engaging with these queens' content going forward..?

Drag race Germany and a couple other seasons have been filmed in Columbia, not just visas but also cost of filming. Also I LOVED season 1 of drag race Mexico and I’m happy to see Gala Vero ! She had such an infectious personality, I hope it shines through even in her 2nd language. I love that her name is a reference to the women of Surrealism! Ahora necesito an all Spanish world season so I can see my favorite villainess Regina Voce…. Or maybe someone can cast her in a telanovela

They really should've brought more international judges. I love Ru and Michelle, but they've proven that they're not the best judges of international talent. And I'm super tired of all the "Vs. The World" seasons ending up eliminating all the non-English speaking queens and having a UK vs. US or US vs. Canada faceoff.

So for the six episodes I read that basically each queen was guaranteed to appear in six episodes. I instantly thought a double premiere with no elimination(2), a reunion(1), a come back lalaparuza(1), and a finale episode (1). My only question is what a sixth episode would be, hmmm.

They should've invited 2 judges per week from different countries.

11 queens. Elimination happens after 6 or so episodes. Each episode, the winner nabs a place in the top 7. If the winner of an episode wins another episode, she gets to choose which girl to take a spot in the 7 with her. Anyone who doesn’t have a place in the top 7 by xth episode is eliminated and the 7 continue to compete with regular All Stars rules until there is a top 3. Could be a fun twist!

9:02 lol. It’s definitely an Olympic sport. It’s called the Hammer Throw. It’s part of a list of track and field throwing sport events. Along with the Javelin, Shot Put, and the Discus. Although, I played none of them in school. I definitely watched them in the Olympics when I was growing up. And I could NEVER forget Miss Kerri Strugg stick her landing nearly on 1 foot in the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA. I still get my life every time I watch her landing.

I love that there's no two queens from the same country this season so it really is global. However I can't say I'm a fan of the judges panel being totally made up of Americans. They could have had Ru and two or three judges from the other countries represented. Brooke Lynn Heights, Valentina, Pangina. Hopefully they'll have some international guest judges along the way. I do love that Jamal has been upgraded to a regular judge though. The man seems like a genuinely cool guy and I always enjoy seeing him show up

I’ve heard an unofficial rumour that the producers are considering moving the production to Colombia if Trump and MAGA win the upcoming federal election, Because MAGA they may “outlaw” drag performances in the USA. I’m not kidding, this is serious. Vote people

It is honestly a little unfair for the queens whose seasons premeired last year, like, your season just got aired, and not even a year later post Drag Race you're already having to do everything all over again, like it has barely even been a year since Gala, Tessa and Miranda were on their seasons

4:39 The rings, also known as still rings (in contrast to flying rings) 8:57 Hammer throw. The "hammer" used in this Olympic sport event is not like any of the tools also called by that name. It consists of a metal ball attached by a steel wire to a grip.

Oh DR Philippines queens are PERFORMERS!!! Eva, even though she was always one of my fav, is probably one of them who’s the shakiest. But it is worth your time. Next season starts Aug 7. Also, I was listening to one of the Sibling Rivalry podcast of the last couple of months where Monét’s guest was Plastique Tiara. They brought up some anecdotes of them touring together, and they talked about the Philippines where they felt almost ashamed as the local queens were incredible.
