We had a booming economy with a surplus in budget since 2017 and majority not understanding simple numbers voted for Rajapakses and got the country in to this situation.

Sure you remember how many obstacles President Sirisena put up during the last government. Even with all those difficulties under Ranils watch Sri Lanka managed to achieve a budget surplus in 2017 (after 63 years) and to continue. Many public institutes including CTB made profits. from 2017 onward we were self sustained with paddy even. Sure you remember how the fuel prices were and by the time he left we had about 8 billon USD and 20 tons of gold and government had enough local earnings to pay the bills. Biggest issue is our majority never read and understand data.

@@govithabang8912 if you have better evidence than the forensic audit report regarding the CBSL treasury bonds, believe its still open to provide in favor of the investigations. According to the Forensic Audit report by KPMG PM Wickramasinghe wasn't accused or found with any violation. This was a statement by PC Ali Sabri the Minister of Justice by 2021 Feb to the parliament. If the current government couldn't find any at least to file a case against him what else would you expect to prove. Given that under him over 400 cases were filled against the politicians and higher officials including the president secretary and chief of staff were sent to prison as well. Minister Kanchana explained the issue you have taken up on GAS as the supplier wasn't in a position to provide continuously. We trying to find credit and post payment methods obviously its not possible to find the best price at this time. Mind that by the the PM left office in 2019 Sri Lanka had USD 8 billion and over 20 tons of gold in reserves. Thats with the historical achievement of budget surplus since 2017 (after 63 years ) and we were self sufficient in rice as well. Issue is country never understood his vission and voted for Rajapakses.

Of course, there are many journalists in Sri Lanka, male and female, who are much better than Palki Sharma. The difference is that Palki Sharma is employed by an Indian government-funded news network owned by a member of the BJP party, which is Narendra Modi, Indian PM's party. She has indian government protection and she cannot be touched by anyone in India. As a foreign journalist, she cannot be touched by anyone outside India either. Sri Lankan journalists asking such questions in Sri Lanka will shortly be answering questions from the Sri Lanka Police. Palki Sharma is basically a mouthpiece for the current Indian government. She was harshly critical of Sri Lanka when she thought Sri Lanka was leaning away from India towards China. Now that India and Modi are leaning towards Sri Lanka, Palki sees Sri Lanka in a more favorable light. She will make a good politician. Changing color as the environment demands.

But one of the main conditions put forward by the opposition party was to president to resign within a given period of time. PRESIDENT DECLINED THAT SAYING HE WON'T RESIGN. then he went for JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, made the same request. And they put forward the same conditions, again DECLINED by the president. This guy Ranil got his post cuz he came without ANY condition just to help the Rajapaksa family. Every citizen in the country knows about it now. And he has only 1 seat in the parliament. After appointment, on the last few sessions in the parliament (if you watch the sessions) you can clearly see that still the SLPP(Rajapaksas party) has the control over everything. He has been cleared from the Bond scam. Under RW, Sri Lanka had to a budget surplus in 2017 after 6 decades. From 2017 onward we were self sustained with paddy. By the time he left we had about 7.2 billion USD and 20 tons of gold in reserves and government had enough local earnings to pay the bills.

Why is India so caring of Sri Lanka when they don't care for our security concerns? Let's take example if economy of Sri Lanka would have boasted by China help . They would allow military bases of China in their country although knowing that would be used against India . Now that's not the situation and Sri Lanka is bankrupt. Why Sri Lanka comes to India in times of distress while it sleeps with China when in prosperity. Indian foreign policy should be clear and straight if Sri Lanka cares about our concerns you will care about them too. If they don't care for our security problems and instead helps in creating more for us . We should also create problems for them in whatever way necessary.

There are not many in the Sri Lankan Parliament who have completed their education and Wickremesinghe is one of those who has. He can speak better than most parliamentarians in Sri Lanka. This does not make his corrupt practices more palatable to the common people. The last time he was elected to Parliament, he led the government as Prime Minister, appointed a close friend as Governor of the Central Bank and, together, they perpetrated the largest fraud on the Central Bank up to that time. He was then compelled to fire his friend, the Governor of the Central Bank, who thereafter retired to Singapore with his share of the spoils. At the next election, the people rejected Wickremesinghe and he was not elected to Parliament. This was the first time in Sri Lanka, that an outgoing leader of the country stood for election and failed to win a seat in Parliament. He entered Parliament by appointment, - not by popular election. The current President, under pressure by the people to resign from office due to corrupt practices, appointed Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister in place of the President's brother who was forced by the people to resign, also for corruption, in order to save his own position. Nothing has changed since Wickremesinghe took over. It is business as usual. The government under Wickremesinghe called for offers to purchase 280,000mt of gas. The lowest bid received of US$96 per mt from Thailand was approved by the Cabinet. Wickremesinghe had his colleague over-rule the Minister of Power and Energy on the basis that the Treasury did not have funds for the purchase and then entered into an agreement with another supplier from Oman for US$129 per mt. Nothing has changed.

Today's crisis is because of the politicians who are not patriotic. Corruption is the main cause for the present crises. Old politicians should quit and the youth should take over.
