The last 10 yrs were the hottest on record. As ice core & tree ring data shows - last year was the hottest year in over 120,000 yrs. Whistle blowing Exxon Mobile scientists testified under oath in 2019 US Congressional hearings that the fossil fuel industry knew over 40 yrs ago that fossil fuel CO2 emissions we're altering the climate. An internal company memo from 1982 confirms this and notes that its scientists predicted that human-caused global warming would first be detectable in the year 2000, plus or minus five years. That was an accurate 42 year old prediction! ExxonMobil scientists also predicted in the 1970's that climate change would cause global warming of 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade, which is the same as academic and governmental predictions that came out between 1970 and 2007. Do the math 0.2 C x 7 (decades) = 1.4 C of warming which is exactly what has occured. That was an incredibly accurate prediction!

Climate change is about extreme weather events happening more often than usual. It's not necessary to believe everything that climate change activists say because they tend to exaggerate in the same way that climate change deniers do. That doesn't mean that we should not make an effort to look after the planet in reasonable ways. There is plenty of middle ground between climate apocalypse and climate change. The properties lost to floods and fires have to be rebuilt. Some insurance companies in the United States are not renewing homeowner policies in riskier areas. Since we're going to pay a price, wouldn't it make more sense to spend that money on mitigating climate change instead? Even if you don't directly suffer from the storms, you will notice the increase in food prices.

@@darlene2709 I agree with you, but they've made two assertions without facts. 1) Climate change is something we can actually do something about (this requires agreement on what's causing it, which there is no actual scientific consensus). And 2), they continue to propose solutions that make themselves richer but will DEFINITELY not fix the problem. When someone tells you a doomsday scenario involving rising ocean levels and flooding when I can see them buying beach front property, let's just say I get a little skeptical.

Not when these homes without yards and "condo" sound wall buildings are what passes for combating urban sprawl. ie: We got 60 acres, okay, let's build 40 acres of mansions for wealthy home buyers from outside of the city, their remote job can support it now, then we'll build sound barriers for them and call them condos. Yeah, they'll buy that. Maybe some of the imports will, we won't, and we'll tell them they were stupid for buying them. Congrats, you've created conflict by only seeking profits, again.
