What a beautiful man. I like his relationship with exposure. I have thought so much about exposure over my years being interested in photography/cinematography. He mentioned his younger self at 17, he also mentioned his inspirations and how they worked using natural light. I think there are alot of us out there who started off underexposing images, because it is the easiest way to add contrast to naturally lit compositions. Especially if you aren't yet familiar with post processes. I think this has gave me some stuggles when it comes to exposure. I see so many films with a certain tone and feel, some being bright and soft, and soooo many styles excite me and interest me. Yet I still expose on the lower end naturally. No matter what I seem to do I usually put out footage with a grungier and moodier tone. It is not bad, but I guess we all have a style that deep down will shine through no matter your intentions. It can sometimes make you less confident in your work, but I love his message to say go with your gut, do what you like.

Fabulous interview, I think I got more insight into Bradford's cinematography in this one interview than all the videos I've seen so far. Not that Bradford doesn't always answer thoughtfully to whomever is interviewing him, he most certainly does. I think you ask really great questions, and you have a refined sense of what it is you want to know about an artist's work...

This helped me understand the beauty of darkness more and it gave me a different way of seeing it, not like an issue or apart of the frame that is negative or nothing, but apart of the frame that I can paint or add beauty. Thanks Bradford Young!

The only movie I've seen with this guys cinematography is Solo: A Star Wars story. But, I like the cinematography in that movie even if the lighting should be a little brighter in places like the Kessel Run or the game of Sabacc with Han and Lando. But it looks really nice.
