I would like to think I could do DK200, I have ridden a Solo 200 miler on the road, but gravel is a totally different thing. I understand how Katherine was feeling with 40 miles to go. When I rode my 200 miler, the last 30 miles were the hardest, not physically, but mentally.

The Kansas countryside looks very inviting. 200 may be just too much of good thing though. 100 could be fun.

GCN videos are usually solid, but the cinematic quality here is another step. Maybe it's the distinct change in locale or a different crew; I don't know, but hats off to Kat and the film crew for a visually satisfying encapsulation of endurance.

Mitch Rapp After being bloke-heavy for such a long time it is great to have to awesome female presenters in Katherine and Emma; it really balances out the show, and shows that our sport is a sport for both males and females.

Mo X.X. Katherine, I was out there with you and saw you and the crew several times along the way. Your infectious smile certainly helped to motivate me and I’m certain many others. Congratulations to you for finishing what was one of the more brutal episodes of the DK and thank you for making the trip across the pond to join our uniquely American gravel adventure. Hope to see you again next year!

Being the non-professional cyclist she is, I feel like she has the occasional place in videos, especially like these, where she represents the common man. It would be far less relatable to have Si tell me what to do to train for DK200 than someone who wasn't a top level athlete.

Make Katherine a regular presenter, she's a natural! This was one of the best GCN videos I've seen, felt really genuine and not as scripted as they usually are. Also, don't be afraid of making your videos a bit longer, they often feel like they rush through it and end far too quickly. Thanks, from a long time subscriber! /antonio

Katherine, you are amazing! You one of the best presenters on GCN. I finished the DK100 this year and hope to get into the 200 next year. I live in south Kansas and have always ridden in that terrain and wind. My hat is off to you. It took great courage of you to take this on in a public forum--a race in which only half of the participants succeed! You did it! Fantastic! Geoff

Having ridden the Arizona Challenge twice and supported it once I decided to ride an unsupported 2 day ride to include come dirt roads and some paved about half & half. Challenge was roadie and 325 miles 17,500 ft vertical gain in 24 hours or less. I rode part of the Challenge past Strawberry to General Cook trail dirt road miles and then jumped on dirt for 30 to end the day. I slept 4-5 hours in Camp Verde and rode off on mostly dirt roads for the next 19 hours I rode the Bloody Basin Road in to the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix area). I flatted 4 hours into the road at what was 20 miles into the dirt section and I had that much to do yet before 50 miles of pavement. I started about 2 pm on that never before ridden by me road. Crazy but not unplanned for. I did run out of lights 11 PM about 3 hours before I would get home. The plan was 8-10 pm and I got in about 2 or 3 AM. I would never trade the experience but approximately 280 rugged miles including 14,000 feet of climbing was all I could fit in before I showed up a couple of hours late to work at Bicycle Harbor. I had Wanted to do Crow King but the extra miles and climbing would have taken a 3rd day. I did the ride on a 3 speed bike I modified to take 26" fat tires and put 18 speed set-up. About 1985-86 was the year. I was inspired by Domenic Malvestuto Who raced in Italy for the Army and told me of long 150-80 mile training rides on gravel roads. Domenic as a great help to form a racing team using proven training methods. I met him and worked part time for him about 1983-84 learning to train using fixed gear for early season.

Well yes - that is part of the challenge. You should expect to get at least three flats or more if you ride the DK 200. I always bring four tubes, tire boot and a patch kit when I ride the Flint Hills (too afraid to go tubeless). I believe though that Sven ultimately withdrew because of stomach trouble.

Amazing Job Katherine as I said when I saw you cross the finish line live! Huge thumbs up to the GCN crew producing a high grade short video to document this event! IMO if there were video productions of other gravel events done with the quality of the GCN crew did on this one they would be more widely seen and appreciated as there is far more to an event then some snapshots and shaky go pro footage by us amateurs!

Congratulations, Katherine, for such an amazing accomplishment! I live within an hour and a half of Emporia and love riding in the Flint Hills. You do a great job showcasing their beauty. And I know how brutal that headwind can be; it can have you crawling. In fact, I've ridden an out and back route and the wind literally changed 180 degrees; had a headwind both directions. I wasn't making it up either, you could see it in the flags. Anyway, great job in with the ride and the video.

The Dirty Kanza is an absolute beauty of a race. As on of the leads of the blind tandem teams, teamwork and support is crucial to a successful ride. In 2018, we fielded 4 teams, 3 in the 200 and 1 in the 100. We only had 1 finisher, Ben and his son Luke who finished the 200. We had two teams with catastrophic crashes, my team at mile 68 where we wrecked due to a destroyed rim. More tragic was at mile 92ish where and endo resulted in the stoker sustaining a severe concussion and the pilot severe road rash. We are returning in 2019 with 4 teams, 2 on the 200 and 2 on the 100. If you want to try the DK tandem style, message me. The DK is is more exciting with friends. Imagine crossing that finish line with a mate you just crushed 206 miles of gravel with.

Absolutely amazinging riding there from Katherine! What a truly great feat to get through that race... It does definately look like a very enjoyable way of seeing the amazing landscape of Kansas but I am not sure how much I could take the pain of being in the saddle for almost a whole day straight! 🤤Katherine was so upbeat through the whole experience and just the relief and happiness of her expression when she crossed the line shows how hard it is to get through the course.😭 I have to say it was very impressive how Katherine didn't really moan about anything even when she was tired or had got short of water.... (not something I am sure her male counterparts would have done) Definately something which is a bit shorter might be in order before going for that beast of a ride...!ĺ😲

Amazing. I've figuratively been where Katherine was at when the ride doesn't seem to end and you just don't have anything left. It was great to see her digging deep and finishing.
