Today we want to tell and show you how to edge a neckline.
There are many different ways to do it, but we’ll show you just one of them today.
We usually edge necklines with bias binding, but we want to show you the other way to do it.
We’ll show you how to edge a neckline with a wide bias 4-layer facing.
Svetlana will help me today. She’ll show you how to cut the facing.
I want the facing to be 1,5cm wide on the neckline, so we need to make it 4 times wider for cutting - 6cm wide.
I remind you that bias details should be cut at the angles of 45 degrees towards the grain. There’s no other way to make accurate bias details.
Watch what Svetlana is doing and try to learn the sequence of her actions.
You can stretch a facing a bit when pinning it to the neckline. Don’t stretch it too much though.
Be very attentive!
If fabric you are working with is not strong enough, you can double it with an interfacing stripe.
After watching this video, you will know what a wide bias 4-layer facing is.
Be very careful and gentle when ironing details.
There’s a slit on the neckline on the center back. Notice how we cover it with the facing.
Such necklines are very stylish. The technique is simple, but the result is amazing.
We need to put the item on the table to attach the facing with an invisible seam by hands.
Nowadays it’s very hard to find items of a good quality. I’m not even talking about designs and style. That’s why I mostly sew items for myself.
To be honest, we don’t know the real name of this detail, so we decided to call it this way.
I also want to tell you that a facing can be made of the other color. Imagine how beautiful this item would look like with a white facing.
My name is Paukshte Irina.

Hello there :) is there a way to do this nicely and clean with non-stretchy fabric? Awesome lesson btw, very informative!

Hello. We usually use this technique on stretchy fabric. You can, definitely, try to apply this technique on non-stretchy fabric and see if you like the result.

I think it's the traditional method for bias binding except in this case your have handstitched the reverse side instead of stitching in the ditch.
