A Bangkok hospital official says 20 passengers from Singapore Airlines fatal SQ321 Flight remain in intensive care after the plane hit an air pocket and experienced severe turbulence.
Among the dozens injured and one dead, 41 passengers were still receiving treatment at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital on Thursday, according to Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, the institution’s director. He also revealed 22 patients had sustained spinal injuries and 20 remain in intensive care.
The oldest patient at the hospital is 83-years-old and the youngest, a two-year-old child who suffered a concussion, Kittiratanapaibool later told reporters.
Aside from the injuries sustained by dozens of others, a 73-year-old British man with an alleged heart condition died aboard the flight.
Despite issuing an apology on Wednesday, some passengers have expressed anger at Singapore Airlines’ lack of action, while others consider themselves lucky to still be walking.

I regularly take long haul flight (15 hours) and I find most passengers following the advice to have your seat belt on all the time. But there are always some passengers (anywhere from 10 to 20) ignore the advice and even leave their seat and stand around after 7+ hours into the flight. That’s why I am not surprised with the number of injured and how severe the injuries are.

@@ohcanadaeh This really is the issue. The airlines can only do so much to enforce it. Let this be a lesson to those who choose not to. It's why they say that while seated, even if the sign is off, to please wear it.

Yes that is the case because it's been reported across different international media, including talking to those who were belted in and were not flung from their seats or where they may have been. All cabin crew also sustained injuries including burns as they were in the midst of meal service when it occurred. Apparently, one person interviewed who had just returned to his seat after going to the toilet said, he saw the seat belt sign come on just as he got back to his seat and was about to sit down. Just as he got his belt on, a split second later people, belongings and everything else started getting flung thru the air.

Regardless wearing the seat belts which I think it's very important .. the Captain Pilot should have told all passengers to fasten their seat belts. I know for sure the pilot forced the airplane into the Jet Steam that caused the violent turbulences. Singapore Airline must be responsible for all the passengers life. That's all I'm saying.

They are not telling this. Let me guess, is it the Boeing airplane again? Pure coincidence, right? When last time not Boeing plane send to ISU 22 passengers after air turbulence?
@balticbabe1
@balticbabe1 23 күн бұрын
Nope. It's called clear air turbulence. It comes out of the blue with no warning. Nothing to do with Boeing. I worked on the 777 hundreds of times during my career; very safe, huge aircraft. All these injuries could have been eliminated entirely if people would only keep their seatbelts fastened throughout the entire flight. Don't blame the aircraft or airline, neither of which are responsible
@balticbabe1
@balticbabe1 23 күн бұрын
The last time? Well, there was an Air Canada flight, within the last several years, operating on an Airbus, either 319, 320 or 321, where people hit the ceiling during clear air turbulence and went to the hospital. So you see, it's not Boeing nor is it Singapore airlines who are responsible

You're right! The Montréal Convention on Air Travel may be used for the affected passengers to lodge a claim for additional compensation from the airline besides the payout from their own travel insurance policies, personal accident policies and life insurance policies.

I am not sure but is there not an extra amount you can put down for circumstances such as this (similar how they ask if you want additional coverage in case of lost or stolen luggage). If not there should be it would be benificial to the airlines as well as the customers. Accidents due to turbulance is not something the airlines can foresee and added expenses like medical, long term care could be needed for some or rehabilitation for those with spinal or cranial injuries, missed flights, possibly having to fly some family members to join you if hospitalization is legnthly, flying for work and missed work, hotel stays if a loved one leaves the hospital before you etc... If an airline is willing to cover additional flights, hotels, hospitalization, medical expenses, hotel stays after leaving hospital until your next available flight, damage to the aircraft etc.... that can be quite expensive for the airline too. We all know that even stepping our feet outside sometimes can be risky but we always look to see who is at fault in car accidents and who should pay.

The aftershock is how the passengers are treated with so much disrespect like forbidding free press to talk to them. But these foreigners may at least get some compensation. The Singaporean injured and casualties will definitely get nothing as PAP and their institutions will bully them into silence.

It's called clear air turbulence and neither the pilots nor ATC can predict it. It's sudden and unexpected and comes out of the blue. In wouldn't appear in their flight plan, in this case, some 10 hours prior. If you want to blame anyone for the injuries sustained, blame the passengers themselves for sitting with seatbelts undone
