Purchased 17L about a week ago cleaned and lubricated it and headed to the range. I used high quality Federal 115g, 124g, and 147g along with Blazer 124g and Magtech 115g. I loaded the 115 Fed and had nothing but misfires, jams and stovetop partial ejections. I switched to the 124g weapon cycled a little better but still the same issues. Finally I utilized the 147g which seemed to cycle the best but not perfectly! I field striped it and lubricated it again firing the Blazer124g and finally Magtech 115g still encountered cycling and extraction issues, but not as numerous. In total I fired about 250 rounds through it. Hopefully this is just a break in issue, but from videos I’ve seen this seems like a pretty common issue with the L. I wish I had watched the videos before I purchase, but that’s water under the bridge now. I will see how it runs when I go back to the range and if I have the same issues I will contact Glock for warranty claim so they can check it out. Lastly my CZ USA CP10-F cycled perfectly one jam/misfire firing 115g and 124g ammunition.

Short stroke for sure. Recoil spring is too heavy. Springs are hard to get right and when millions of guns are built on an assembly line there will be a few bad springs that lead to this issue. I don't buy whole guns new but when I build my slides I get a variety of spring weights to try because cuts in the slide and optics can change what you need. Seems like an easy fix to get it cycling. Now the inaccuracy is probably because of the barrel and that sucks too because glock should be getting that right. You definitely should send it back for that. You aren't holding it improperly or anything those comments are wrong. You aren't limp wristing and so it's definitely the recoil spring. I have experience building several Glock clone slides and it's the issue 95% of the time. The PSA dagger recoil springs are notorious for this but I fixed all my builds with proper ISMI springs.

The dust cover is polymer to lighten the slide. I know another owner that is having failure to eject/stovepipes multiple times in a mag. I recently purchased a new old stock G29 gen4 and it gave me nothing but failures to feed regardless of mags and ammo. They took it back, changed a few small parts and when i got it back the issue was still there. Sometimes you get lemons but the issues in the 17L are apparently common enough.

@@clutchboi4038 being cheaper is a byproduct of what Glock is trying to do. Glock has a reputation of being able to reliably run any kind of ammo, but 9mm is a weak round to reliably run such a large slide with any kind of ammo. The same issue is why 9mm 1911s didn’t run well for years. 9mm doesn’t have the ass to reliably run a large metal slide. They are removing material to make the slide lighter to improve reliability. Previous 17Ls had slide cut outs internally to accomplish the same thing. There are still slide cut outs internally on the Gen5 17L, but they’re different because of the MOS system.

Definitely an issue with slide speed. You can see your ejection is weak and occasionally ejects almost vertically. PMC is also notoriously weak ammo across its entire lineup. The 17L is a lot of slide mass for a 9mm round. It’s why it has so many slide cutouts and the new plastic front piece. Less mass attempting to make it run all sorts of ammo reliably. I think adding an optic will just contribute to the issue. I wonder if this gun is going to be similar to when they came out with the 9mm glocks and tried to use the same RSA as the .40, I think that was either Gen 4 or 5 before they figured out 9mm needed its own spring setup. Maybe Glock will have to play with the spring weight a bit more.

Thanks for the advice man but the plugs that swap from gen 3 guide rod/spring to gen 4 and 5 assemblies would not fit in this pistol because of the way the plastic dust cover is only half mooned. I tried that right off the bat. As far as the sights they would be dead on but once the pistol heated up from shooting accuracy went to crap. The hotter it got the crappier the accuracy. Cold it was dead on. When I sighted it in with the adjustable sights it was dead on. After the range review it was hot and went from a 1” group at 10 yards to 3.5” at 10 yards with one flyer that went a touch under 6”. Thanks for the suggestion though. The new Daniel defense pistol that is $1500 was shooting key holes for another KZbinr at very short distances so it's not impossible for even a premium pistol barrel to be bad. To fix the issue he needs one size under recoil spring weight and a known good barrel. Springs are pretty cheap but I'd send it back to Glock for the barrel after testing with another barrel.
