Copper is a metal that "work hardens" meaning that as it is swaged, pressed, folded, stretched, extruded, etc, it becomes harder. Maybe the rifling squeezing on the bullet helped it maintain its shape, in addition to copper already being *much* harder and less malleable than lead.

Since Lehigh Defense makes their Extreme Penetrators in most sizes of handgun calibers how about comparing all handun calibers to see which of them will go through the bullet-proof glass vs stopped by the glass starting with .380 then 9mm, 357 mag, .44 mag., .45,acp and we saw the 10mm. This is great information for both sides of the glass. My guesses are: no to the .380acp and the .45acp but yes to the 9mm, 357mag., .44mag.

Can you try two additional follow up test. 1. Since the bullet went through the glass using a Glock 40. Test the same bullet using the Glock 20 and 29 in 10mm as well. This should show if the additional velocity of the longer barrel made all the difference or if and when barrel length was a deciding factor. 2. Also try same brand of bullet in the other Glock MOS guns and their respective relatives. This should give more data to link to the first test as well as provide more supporting data across multiple areas.

a lot of the 10mm range ammo and some of the defense ammo are fairly light loads, very comparable to a .40S&W and all for good reasons. Underwood, Buffalo Bore, DT have full power loads that typically blow away any large ammo makers 10mm specs. I a defense or range load a full power 10mm is overkill so they keep the loads light, knowing that any heavy 10mm user is going to use custom loads suited for their needs. the lehigh rounds are pretty wicked, great for when penetration and wc is needed.

Plinkster has the (relatively new) model 40 ... in the 10 mm chambering .... so yea, not confusing at all :) To take confusion a step further you can shoot 40 in a 10mm (not a good idea, but works). interesting that the UW load penetrd with only about half of the power of an AK-47 round. Which is the go-to round for this kind of thing. I think it shows the performance of this bullet design in combination with the cartridge weight/speed and caliber. And that's why the 10mm is admired. The other round was the equivalent of the .40 s&w, which ain't shabby by any means...I'd like to see the stock Lehigh Def round which is 1200fps, fired at the panel. hey plinker!! Please please please see what this round can really do and double up the glass then triple the glass it would be nice to see it's limitations that thing wasn't even slightly deformed/scratched? so shows how much more potential it has and I want to see when it is beaten and your the man to-do it you have the gun and the glass! Thanks Alex

They should make the glock 10 standard issue for the military. Pretty decent sized mag and good power. Reminds me of the 1911 with a bigger mag to be honest.

And for such a powerful round, the Glock 40 handles it with ease. It's one nice shooting firearm.

Hey Plinkster, have you ever shot the bullet proof glass with the 7.62x25 TT?

I'm amazed at how undeformed the bullet is more than anything else. For some reason, Underwood seems to advertise this type of ammo as both "Extreme Penetrating" and "Extreme Defender". I couldn't imagine using something like this as defense ammo, all I can think about is over penetration, but it would be damn fun to shoot.

Over penetration like come on its rare enough that you'll even need it it would be more rare that someone will catch a stray behind the bad guy. Maybe in an apartment wouldn't be my first choice but yea chances are astronomical you'll hit a bad guy and an innocent person at the same time. Most people can't even hit the target they spray and pray them the people that may hit someone else by accident. Definitely more of self defense in the wilderness tho lol

Wow, didn't even deform the bullet in any obvious way! Least it didn't look like it. I was guessing it would have deformed the + shape flats a little bit. Pretty impressive! Gotta love solid copper bullets! I would like to see this same test, same bullet but in the other calibers of Underwood's XP loadings!

How about some more of these Lehigh/Underwood Extreme Penetrators in .45 and 9mm?

That is some awesome stuff. Wonder what that would do loaded in a 40 S&W?

Please try the 115gr 10mm Xtreme Defender from Underwood. It'd be interesting to see how a faster, lighter bullet would do. Also, please put a ballistic gel backstop behind the glass to get a better visual on the residual energy left.

I would like to know how a hard cast bullet would perform. Thanks for the video

Have you tried the 9mm Underwood Extreme Penetrator? Would love to see how it does against the glass.
