Glock 42 Review... Is it worth it ?

I had a Glock 42 and traded for a 43x, after a week, I found the 43x to be too heavy and bulky for my EDC. I ended up buying back my Glock 42 from the dealer I sold it to and couldn’t be happier. I feel 380ACP is more then enough for EDC. It’s not how big the bullet is, it’s how well you place the bullet that does the damage. Being a proficient shooter and practicing is what’s going to save your life. I learned that in the military.

I have a 42 & bought a 43X when they came out. Feel the same way you do about the 43X & bullet placement. Still have it but the 42 suits my purpose more. Carry ammo is the Hornady Critical Defense. The only ammo it doesn't like is that Winchester hard ball stuff with the flat head (range only). I have Glock factory mags with the pinky extension but no extra capacity &.no loss of concealability.

I have a 42. Even with a +2 magazine I still feel a bit under gunned. Thinking of going up to 43x.

I love my G42. I carry it as my EDC more than my 48. People knock the .380 round but the body has a lot of soft tissue and that round has put many people in the ground. Its all about shot placement and not so much the round. I can live with the 6 round magazine. A fire fight is almost like winning the lotto. All it takes is just 1. One dollar to buy a winning a ticket and 1 good placed shot to end a threat. Im going to dinner or my mail box or hiking. Im not going to war. Dont care for 15 plus round mags plus an additional mag on my person and a back up gun on my ankle.The 42 is meant to keep it simple and concealable. Gets the job done.

Love the G42❤. For CCW I frequently carry my G23/5 or my G19/4 all of witch are 2.5+lbs. on the belt. So, there are many times I will resort to my G42 with an ETS+9 w/XGRIP on the belt, or the Flat Mag in my pocket holster. The G42, for me, is accurate out to 45-50Ft along with a TLR-6 is a very comfortable carry option. I installed the Talon-Grips. My ammo of choice is the loaded Lehigh/Underwood Extreme Penetrator solid copper that gives my barrier blind penetration equal to my 9mm loads. As a note, I shaved all my 6rd. Mag Followers as now they all hold 7rds so that’s 8rds IN THE POCKET.

Like you said in the video, the purpose of the G42 is for “concealment, pocket carry” etc…. I agree. I love the 6-round factory magazines, as well as my G43 (9mm) 6 round magazines. I could care less that Sig or Springfield have these little double stack mags. They don’t impress me at all and I just carry two spare Glock mags in my shirts pocket and have the training and mindset to reload quickly. The 42, 43 or 43x are my off-duty carry weapons in my rotation most of the time. When I want super small with ultra reliability while still maintaining better reliability (than the P365), it’s either the 42 or 43. Springfield magazines are junk and Sig USA all together sucks. Back to the 42…. It’s my annual concealed carry Hawaii vacation gun, as it’s small enough to fit in board shorts with a tank top and flip-flops on the beach. Some people have asked me why carry a concealed gun (legally) in tropical Hawaii? I reply with, “Because a cop won’t fit in my shorts pocket.”

I bought the 43 for my wife and she was ok with it but just did not seem comfortable with it. So I bought the 42 and suddenly she was good. Idk if it was just the small difference in size or recoil or both but she now carries the 42 everywhere and shoots it more than me!! Its not a bad gun and I'd carry it if I had to deep conceal. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

It’s good to have a 10 round spare magazine. That’s the reason. Keep the six round magazine in the Glock 42.

I do carry the 42 on occasion because it is so comfortable, but I carry my Springfield Hellcat 9mm most of the time. With the 11+1 mag in the Hellcat, it is the same size as the 42, only thicker and heavier. The Hellcat is also the same size as the Glock 43 when using the 11 round magazine in it, but slightly heavier because of the higher mag capacity, which is well worth it. Don't get me wrong, I love my Glocks, I have the 42 and a G45 MOS... The 42 is an accurate, smooth shooting, reliable gun, actually a lot of fun to shoot and eats anything you put through it, just like a Glock. Loaded with Underwood Extreme Penetrator +P .380 ammo, I think the 6+1would be more than adequate in an unexpected, close quarters, self defense situation. I do have 2 of the ProMag extended 10 round magazines for the 42. Both the gun and one of the 10 round mags in Sticky Holster and Sticky Mag Pouch conceal really well iwb.

Not anymore, Glock needs to redesign it so it holds 10 rounds flat base and 12 rounds extended base with tritium night sights standard. I have one and put +2 extensions on the magazines and added aftermarket tritium night sights. I'm not getting rid of mine after I fixed it up some, but if I was looking for a pocket pistol today I would get the Ruger LCP Max compared to the current G42 as is.
