I've learned the hard way that cheap aftermarket mags for my Glocks are nothing but trouble. But here lately, MagPul started making mags for the Glock 19. Because of their reputation, I decided to try them and bought 5 for $16 each. So far, they run flawlessly. For EDC I still rely on the factory mags but it's nice to have 15 or 20 mags loaded for convenience at the range without paying factory prices.

Coming from a production background I can say that not all inline changes are voluntary. Sometimes you quietly make a change to fix an issue that is occurring. An issue that stops short of needing a recall of a product, but an issue none the less. Bottom line is its all about saving face and/or saving money as a manufacturer.

A really great, informative video, sir! And you've got the voice for a narrator who should be doing documentaries and making the Big Bucks! I have to admit, I'm not a Glock guy. I'm more an old-timer, but I admit, the Glock is one fantastic gun, perhaps one of the two greatest handguns of all time. I have nothing but respect for the Glock, but cosmetically, it hurts my eyes! Like I said, I'm teetering on the edge of being a full-blown geezer in ways. That aside, I have acquired a ton of Glock 17 mags for use in the AR-9 I built using a Stern Defense conversion unit. Through a swap, I obtained three mags that your video didn't mention, and I'm frustrated by not being able to attach photos here to illustrate my questions/concerns. The "newest" of the three has only the single right-hand notch for the magazine catch, no other "cut-outs." It has the metal insert, but has two circular holes to expose the steel insert on either side of the "17" and "18" see-through holes. It has a thick floorplate with "+2" and "1987" inside the stylized Glock logo. It holds 19 rounds, but that last round is tough to get loaded, even with a Lula mag loader. I might add that this magazine refuses to engage the hold-open feature in my AR-9, and the only Glock handgun I could "borrow" to see if it functioned correctly. The other two really baffle me. One is identical in size to a Glock 17 mag, has only the right-hand mag catch notch, but only accommodates ten rounds and has the number "3206" inside the stylized Glock logo. I assume this mag was either made during the Clinton-era "assault weapons ban," or was intended for the poor souls in Massachusetts, California (YIKES! -- you're in San Diego!), or some other God-forsaken region of the country which tramples the Second Amendment. Lastly is one that is shorter -- perhaps for the Glock 19 (?), has only the right-hand mag catch notch, and is only a 10-rounder (also has "3206" inside the stylized Glock logo on the floorplate. This magazine also has the numeral "1" stamped to the side of the Glock logo and word "Austria" on the back of the magazine. I'd really appreciate any information you might give me. From this video alone, I can tell you'd be exactly the kind of man I'd love doing business with, and I wish you all the luck in the world! Thank you so much in advance!

They cycle, work in 5 gens too but not 💯. If you carry a Glock 9mm for ccw, duty 🚔, home security 🏡, use factory Glock mags.

Hey all ! Just found out my Glock G21 Generation 3 SF .45 AMBIDEXTROUS (magazine release) is the ONLY model that Gen 4+ Magazines will not work (catch & hold magazine) This is the only model that Glock has a standard full replacement warranty - they will replace it for free. The only magazines that would work in this model have a small window cut-out (exposing the metal liner) to catch and hold the magazine. Newer Glock magazines do not have this cut-out and will not work.

Glock 23 is very highly spoken of in LEO communities. Just the right size for most officers out of the box. Personally though, the best guns are full size with the grip cut down as much as comfortable. This gives you full sight radius while still being as concealable as a compact or even subcompact.

The change was done when the manufacturing of the mags was moved to the US. (It was an import regulation thing imposed by our Feds that wouldn't allow hi-cap mags to be imported). This was explained to us by the Glock instructor in our Armorers class... If you buy a Glock out of the US, the exposed metal mags are what you get with them, also as stated below, the US made mags aren't stamped with the "Austria" logo on the bottom of the mag. That's the easiest way to tell it they were made in the US or not....

Drop-free magazines are a USA thing and magazines that require a grasp and pulling it from the handgrip are a European thing. All that a tactical reload really means is the action of reloading a weapon that has only fired a few rounds out of its magazine, and retaining the original magazine. The original Glock magazines that swell when loaded facilitate this a bit better because you have positive control of it at all times and an unintended press of the magazine release doesn't mean you've lost it on the ground, in the mud or in the water when you didn't intend to.
