In this video Lenny explains why Tungsten Guide Rods are one of our most popular items. And they have been for years! For some Glock enthusiasts, it's the first aftermarket part they buy for a new Glock.
You can find all our Guide Rods here: www.glockstore...

I have a 26 gen 5 with a factory 16 pound spring( from what I’m told) problem is ,is that I’ve had surgery on my right wrist and racking the slide is next to impossible (I’m left handed) my question is this. How safe would it be to use a lighter spring? I shoot factory loads (115 grain and my carry ammo is 115 or 124 grain) I’m thinking the spring I have on there now feels a lot heavier by far then the spring on my 17 gen 3. And if I could use a lighter spring then how much lighter could I go without damaging my frame ? Thank you all in advance for your help. I called Glock and of course they don’t recommend anything other then oem

Having gotten older, I found it’s getting harder and harder to pull back the slide?
@texasbeast239
@texasbeast239 3 жыл бұрын
Have you tried grip tape, or a slide racker handle? There is very gritty tape that you can stick to your slide to make it easier to grab a hold of. And there are also a variety of horns or paddles that you can use to replace the plate at the back of the slide, which makes them easier to pull rearward. I would avoid reducing the spring weight if you are using the gun for defense.

@dan phillpotts Most gun makers will tell you not to use reloads due to liability, but in the case of the Glock NO really means NO. 99% of problems with failures are due to reloads in Glocks, even if they are done right and work in other guns. Bad idea.

You should always make sure the compensator your going to ru will run with the one sping and 115 grain ball ammo. That way if you switch things up you know it can handle it. Going to a lighter spring may cause issues if you can’t run a normal Glock polymer guide rod. Speaking from experience here.

Recently picked up a Gen 5 Glock 26. Feels like it take a Mack Truck to rack that slide - it's super heavy. So replacing it with a lighter recoil spring makes sense for me. My question is, is there any real reason not to? I understand with 'hot' ammo I'd run a risk, but almost everything I run through my guns is just standard ammo you'd get from any store. Appreciate any feedback.

@@muddyhotdog4103 Factory Glocks are built like AK 47's. They're loose. The barrel chamber is loose, so bad that spent brass has to be resized completely before reloading. But, yes, they're built for war. They'll run dirty, choke any ammo, and never fail. Once you start tightening them up with match barrels, guide rods, etc. You might start seeing your gun getting more accurate, but more finicky for sure.

I would buy a recoil spring kit that gave you multiple weights of springs, mark them clearly, and try out different ones with different ammo loads. That way, you will learn which one works best for you. The general rule of thumb is to only go higher in spring weight if the recoil is excessive for yourself, but only go high enough that you don't feel the muzzle jerking forward and down afterward. If the spring is too heavy, it will slam the slide back forward into battery so hard that the muzzle will drop with every shot, and that is no good for anybody.
@LAIRDO-
@LAIRDO- 4 жыл бұрын
Replacement Tungsten or even steel/stainless guide rods will more often than not make your pistol short cycle, thus resulting in FTE and jamming. This is because these guide rods are heavier and have more tension than the stock ones. Less recoil? Probably, maybe. But, do you want your firearm to function properly? YES!! I've learned the hard way. Stick with OEM guide rods. If you own and/or carry a Glock, they've already taken enough of your money.

I got a Glock 17 Gen 5 last fall. The only upgrade has been getting a tungsten guide rod. The G17 is an awesome gun to begin with but the new rod makes it amazing! My shot grouping went from 2.5"-3" at 10 yards down to consistently 1.5"-2", even with bulk RN ammo! Unfortunately, tungsten rods aren't allowed in stock Glock comps so I do have to train with the original rod. But I am noticing there has been consistent improvement in that training too. I don't know if it's the placebo effect but my shooting hand doesn't seem to fatigue as much with the tungsten rod. 9mm doesn't have much recoil but I notice the difference when I change back to the plastic rod. I can do 500+ rounds with the tungsten rod but I start feeling it around 350 rounds or so with the original rod. Great product!

Chief here... He forgot or never learned about 45 super instead of acp, the simpleton's load, so yeah makes sense he didnt mention it. Example a 5" 1911 in 45 running super with just a updated recoil spring. Lol silly guy passing over the kings caliber, can every bit equal and surpass 10mm.

Yes, Lenny. Here in Alaska 10mm is the Alaskan round. At least in our opinion. I carry 9mm for self defense in the summer months for in town/city and 45/10mm for winter months. 45 for in town/city during the winter and 10mm year round for any outdoor stuff. Cutting/hauling trees, camping, fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling/snow mobile. I use the tung in all of my carry Glocks because it does help the felt recoil, muzzle lift/flip znd stay on target. It makes shooting hot loads of 10mm very nice. G19 gen4, G17 gen3/4, G20 gen4, G21 gen3/4, G30S gen3.

Cost primarily. They manufacture guns for the military and police - not a pretty one or a top of the line anything -they mass manufacture a tough, good-enough gun for combat and general use. it is fortunate that we can upgrade/tune these to what best suits what we like.

Great video Larry. Answered a few questions I had. Now I know… Just got my new guide rod delivered, and installed. Did the P-80 lower, 3-3.5lbs trigger, and your tungsten guide rod… Can’t wait to shoot it. Bet it’ll be much tamer on the range.

I would like to know as well because I’m using a 15lbs guide rod for my P80 G19 and for some reason it doesn’t cycle full sometimes. For example if I’m racking the slide pointing downward it will get stuck but doing the same thing point up it cycles with no issues. What I notice is when it doesn’t cycle and the slide gets stuck I notice that the barrel not only moves freely than normal and the barrel appears to more forward as well which can explain it causing the slide to lock when pointing downward compare upwards. Now this is an example, issue is occurring when shooting down range at times. *Note my setup is a G19 slide w/ ported barrel and P80 lower.

Would a tungsten guide rod with stiffer springs induce malfunctions with starboard loads instead of hot loads. A lot of people buy these to slow down the slide when shooting really hot loads.

Is it necessary? No...it's an upgrade for people looking for the very best rather than just "good"...but upgrades come at a cost. For people whose livelihoods depend on having the best, though (law enforcement, competition shooting, etc.), it's an expense well worth it. There are aftermarket parts for practically everything, especially in the gun world. Steel is more expensive than polymer and adds weight...so for people looking at possibly buying a Glock, keeping the price down with a reduction in weight probably helps overall sales numbers... especially for first time buyers and inexperienced shooters.

@Matt 3000 They definitely add some weight to the front of the gun and cuts down on recoil and muzzle flip, tighter groups. I recently installed one in my 43x and it made a big difference as above, more noticeable because the 43x is smaller and lighter then say the 19 or 17. I wish I would have done this sooner.

Do you offer a choice of colour with the different spring strengths? I would like a lighter spring, but the accent colour of my (9mm-converted) G22 is going to be gold (already ordered most of the parts from you) but the gold rod on the website is a heavier spring, not lighter. Can I specify a golden rod with my choice of spring, is what I am basically asking?

Why does Glock come with crappy trigger stock? Why does Glock come with crappy plastic sights? Because Glock doesn't care knowing full well that Glock owners don't include the cost of those changes that most make immediately in to the cost of the firearm.

Reza It would easily add $30-$50 to the MSRP sticker price by the time it made it to most gun stores. With Glocks already going up in price it’s better to offer it as is for less and let the buyer decide on that upgrade after.
