I have searched and searched, and really don't get straight answer. My tap water right out is 6.2 ppm ph, 40 alkalinity ppm, and my calcium water hardness does not even really register on the test strip. Should I raise the hardness with calcium like used for a pool or use salts that people use for cichlid tanks?

No as long they are healthy dont mess with the water parameters even with chiclids in my experience every time I mess with the water parameters it very hard to keep them.

I have glofish but for some reason they keep dying. I just returned the green and red that died and petco confirmed with my water quality that it was good. Can you talk about the glofish aggression? I think thats why I lost 3 so far. Or if they die cuz the temp is at 72 degrees maybe

I'm running into this problem now. At first we noticed if we cut the light off the fish were more energetic, but I just found my last glo fish that got sucked into the water filter so I think that's what's been killing my fish. The Glo fish tank was a gift that was purchased at wal mart.

Depends on what the temp of your water is now. Most likely you need a heater to maintain 75 to 80f degrees.

I am having a very hard time with my 10 year daughter’s 2 Tetras. Can someone that knows please help? We bought 3 Glofish Tetras a week ago and one has already died. I don’t want the other to die! I have them in a 3 gallon tank, with a water heater at 78F, the tank cane with a filtering system, I bought water test strips and the water is “ideal” but the only thing that worries me is the hardness because the results are “very hard” and I read everywhere its supposed to be soft. I am also worried that I only have 2 and this video says I should have at least 5-6 but my tank is too small. Is it okay to just keep 2 in the 3 gallon tank? Could this be why the third one died?

Are you familiar with the Nitrogen cycle? Because the only reason I see they told you that is because your tank is not cycle yet and trying to do a fish in cycle.

When you start a new tank for first time you need to cycle. What this mean? This mean that your tank have a beneficial bacteria that help to turn the amonia ( toxic to fish) into nitrates (less toxic) and they can be remove with water change or plant will feed of nitrates I have a really good video and I explain this with visual aids to help you learn how it works. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6vKnpd_dtRraqc

When I do Glo tetras I keep them with at least six of them, I like to always add some mystery snail 2 to 4, 6 to 8 Also some glo danio to add more color and a clown pleco or bristlenose pleco NOT THE COMUN ONE WILL GROW TO BIG FOR A 20G.
