Hey, just a friendly warning. Your crayfish will eventually catch and eat those glofish, I sadly guarantee it... The only inhabitants I'd recommend for a crayfish (excluding Mexican dwarf) are neocaradina shrimp. And you need to take into account that the shrimp will get eaten on occasion. They're great for cleaning up after your crayfish and breed readily so no problem when they become the occasional snack (excluding ethics). Give your crayfish enough time and she'll catch those fish sleeping on the bottom or she'll jump off decor to catch them. It will happen. This is all from experience, I enjoy your channel and don't want to see you lose fish.

Bro I have so much respect for you and what you have accomplished in the the aquarium community. Thank you for all you do. I had to have surgery on my spine and stayed in the hospital for about 6 months learning to walk again. Now I can walk slowly but can't work and can't get disability benefits for some reason, but anyway I hope to 1 day get to go to one of your events and meet you. I have kept fish from the time I was 5 yr old and now I have 3 tanks with my granddaughter that stays with me she love's coral by the way. You should be proud of what you have accomplished and don't ever stop being you. Thank you.

Very cool video George! The one thing that I can't get over is the Ecotech Radion XR30 being used for the tank. I am one of said roasters lol. Nano Box Reefs make custom LED modules that would look killer on this set up. Has neon acrylic tops, carbon fiber, or wood and is completely programmable!

Glofish are how I started a couple years ago, but then I grew out out of it. I just recently bought a 20gal tank and growing it bigger. I currently have 2 goldfish (which might have to go) and 3 swordtails. I plan on getting some glass catfish, a bigger bottom feeder catfish, and a lobster!

Study genetics, and planning to major in genetics. 6:30 ish isn't really correct, and slightly misinformed. The glass fish shown are not products of gene modification. Gene mutation is basically a type of genetic modification, which can occur artificially - such as glo-fish that 12g has - or naturally - such as natural genetic mutations, or gene transfers between organism... Gene transfer really only occurs in bacterial species, and to my knowledge, does not occur in animals - cant remember if it does in plants. What happens to the glass fish, is they are injected with a fluorescent dye, in a process similar to tattoos. This dye is not heritable, so further generations from the glass fish will not be fluorescent unless they are artificially injected. The dyes used can often be detrimental to the fishes health, as for some procedures it requires harsh solutions to wash the slime coat off the fish and then dipped into the dye. Othertimes, the use of injecting the fish can often lead to infections to develop, particularly if sterile equipment isnt used. And in most cases, the dye isn't permanent and in some cases fade after a couple of months.... On the other hand, with glofish fragment of DNA from coral/jelly is inserted into egg cells/embryo, whereas the protein will naturally be expressed under the exposure of blacklight (light with blue/violet colourations, similar to corals). Since this gene for fluorescence is within the DNA, this is permanent unless the DNA has mutated to the point that the function of the fluorescent protein has been lost - very rare to occur, and usually this is unlikely to be passed into future generations. The important thing to highlight is that gene modification/mutation is very likely - basically close to 100% - to be passed off to future generations, where they will display the trait, or become carriers.

Just a heads up those glo plants last for a little while but they fade after about a year. PetSmart has some silicone glowplants that seem to be a little better. I also made my own glowplants using pot scrubbers and they held up better color wise. I love my 40 gallon Glofish tank but the plants need a redo. I also have a 20 gallon StarWars glo tank.

i know i am REALLY late but I am actually getting glo fish!
