You can feel the build up from start to finish in this clip. Pops just wants to have a quiet dinner and finish it and go home with whatever dignity he has left after what he went through at the mall. He has an overbearing wife that he has to deal with the nitpicking. And the simplest trigger was the the bread.

Pops was definitely embarrassed by the mall kids messing with him, as most of these comments point out. I think we've also got to point out the other reason why he didn't wear his new hat to the restaurant was because of his wife. He already knew that if she saw him wearing it that there would be issues, and low and behold she asked him if he spent any extra money at the mall, which made him lie and say that he did not. Both situations are emasculating, which is why he finally snapped at the waiter he bread he cared little about, and why he lit up when the saleswoman started flirting with him.

I can understand the dad's reaction. Customer service in the US is whack. There's one time my grandma was with us for a 4-person reservation and my sister was standing outside to talk with an acquaintance, and they vehemently refused to sit us until all 4 of us are inside the restaurant, forcing my 90 years old grandma to stand there. I respect workers and all but sometime the US is straight up confrontational.

I was so satisfied seeing Earn's dad yelling at the waiter after being taken advantage of by those teens at the mall. He wasn't going to have it any more. I may not be as old as his dad, but I'm 25 and I'm an adult, and I have had to deal with coworkers of a younger generation, and a lot of them are disrespectful, and annoying. Sometimes I just want to react this way to them.

I get that it was his job, but a lot of younger people seem to not want to level with customers and just make everything a bigger deal than it has to be. Earlier at the mall, Earn's father was dealing with a clearly disrespectful young person, and now this was just the last straw for him. The waiter wasn't being that disrespectful, but he was just being annoying to him and consistently making a big deal out of the bread. I could relate to his dad's frustration, because I've been in those situations where you deal with someone horrible from earlier and then later, someone does something that just bothers you a tad bit more and it just sets you off
