This is perfectly atrocious. It was a delightful execution. I was hanging, suspended in wringing tension. A deadly guillotine and I was not the cabbage. Thank you for this.

It surely succeeds in its dark and powerful atmosphere. Modest in scope. Minimalist in style. The trademark glassy glissandi are there. Her music is sometimes beautiful, darkly majestic and rich with interesting sonorities and timbres...however, her scores look and the music sounds very planned and, for my taste, lacks the organic willfulness to really come to life and take me to unexpected places. Nothing in this work really surprised me.

Nice! It takes me back to where I can almost hear Acrisius, a Greek King checking in on his daughter Danae as she was locked up in a tower.
@darrylschultz93116 жыл бұрын
Bob Miller Yes I was thinking that very thing-but then Danae escapes and suddenly all hell breaks loose as her lover holds her tenderly in his arms and gives her a lovely little kiss that brushes gently against her delicate forehead,just above the left eye,causing her to wake from her slumber and pummel him mercilessly to the ground-ah yes,love can be cruel!And don't get me started on Acrisius! But the music says it all-a true knob. Did you sense that as well?

Certainly interesting, but I'm not convinced it's more than that. Sounds a bit like an 'exercise in sonority' to me rather than an emotional statement ... Good to hear, though. Thanks for posting.

what does it mean ? you prbably don't like more than that...ok but really as emotional statement it is incredible, almost distressing to me... impossible to remain cold....

@@pilouetmissiou I can confirm this music is much more than a simple 'exercise in sonority' : it's a spiritual incantation.

I feel similarly. The 1st movement starts out well, but then the 2nd half of it is just repetition and glissandi. The scherzo is a continuation of the same theme with a little more rhythmic poking and prodding but not much of a dance and no real change of character in the music. Tuning while playing is an interesting way to achieve microtonal and improvisational effect and the pure sound of tuned open strings at the end is satisfying. The last movement I was expecting something more intelligible out of something called a canon. Well, obviously there is a ton of overlapping notes and imitation, eddying about for minutes at a time with her signature siren like glissandi up and down. While I found the 4th symphony very powerful and transporting (despite the overall heaviness of 3 down tempo movements.) this earlier piece strikes me as an experiment that is only sometimes interesting and not that expressive for music that relies heavily on atmospherics. Not enough to draw me back
