Brilliant! A kind of primordial music that makes you vibrate in your core. I saw her presenting a recent composition in concert over ten years ago but as she wasn't known to me I lost her detail , I could not even remember her name except a few details like she was American and aged about 70. Her haunting music has kept me looking for her and what a joy it is to have found her again!

A very original conception, brilliantly orchestrated. Dark, foreboding, and almost palpably frightening. This is what you can do with a large modern symphony orchestra -- if you know how!

@@gloriacoates9501 Thanks very much for your comment, Ms. Coates. (I'm surprised no one has acknowledged it before me!) Your work is magnificent and subtle, breathtaking like something monumental, but also scintillating like something coalescing with fibre of gossamer. "Transition" is a favorite of mine. Best wishes to you! (Also: are you in any way you know of related to the author Robert M. Coates, who coined the term "abstract expressionist"?)

There's little contrast between light and dark in this work; all I hear is Darkness. It conjures up visions that could rather be named "Illumination of Despair", "Demonic plosives", and Dreams of Charon". Its purely(?) musical value, which is minimal, doesn't begin to overcome the bad spirit it imparts, nor the pretentiousness, nor the ultimate boredom. Consequentially, I'm herewith removing all further Coates from consideration - surely too heavy on my ears. and not at all warming to my heart.
@PicodeGuy

Hmm. I wonder how you ended up listening to Coates thinking you were going to hear "heartwarming" music. Can you detail these "bad spirits" the music imparts? Are they flying around you now? Or are they inside you, but alive? I guess it's good the bad spirits ultimately succumbed to boredom? For you I suggest listening to "Don't Worry Be Happy"

I had just enjoyed a symphony by Ruth Gipps and noticed Gloria Coates referenced on the sidebar, so I "ended up" listening to this symphony for an introduction to her music. It didn't worry me at all though; as a Christian, I'm happy in Christ.

Most people, when they find music to be pretentious or boring or bad-spiritied (what does that *mean*?) simply cut short their unsuccessful listening experience and move on to something else without bothering to leave an indelible record lasting to the end of time, of how they felt about it. I am impressed that with Christian Fortitude you apparently managed to experience and endure all these negative things right to the end (you DID, right? Otherwise you could not have written with such authority), and managed also to explain to the world at large how you suffered. I am sure that there is nothing pretentious in that. Congratulations.

@@ronaldbwoodall2628 But did it not make you feel something intensely? Some of the happiest sounding music sounds happy, sure, but does it make you feel happy? This kind music creates emotion where there is none, and opens up doors that rarely get looked at. I encourage you to find some of the beauty in the darkness of this piece, how it builds tension and eases it off, without ever truly bringing you home. There are some truly triumphant moments here, you should let in some darkness from time to time to make the light as bright as it can be. sidenote, the chords starting at 10:02 are absolutely thrilling

@@cinnamoncoffeecake5925 I don't find it to be all that dark. Sounds rather tame to my ears. Especially compared to early Penderecki. Or the music of Xenakis.
