I’ve just read his autobiography- obviously, it has greater piquancy since he died. The greatest love of his life was Dusty Springfield - whom he never met. From young to old, she was his heroine. The suicide of his beautiful Mum obviously had a lasting impact, but he was proud and grateful for his success.
