I don't often publish videos of hymns but... Around the UK and wider world, choirs have fallen silent, the regular rhythm of choral worship interrupted for a currently indeterminate period of time. This hymn is frequently sung as part of the service of evensong and I, like many others, look forward to the day we can sing together again.

What a beautiful sentiment. Sometimes a hymn surprises you too. I'd been singing in Cathedral choirs from 1995-2010 when I finally discovered a hymn I knew so well at the end of an anthem I'd, for some reason, never come across. Parry's Hear my words, ye people ends with what I thought was just a regular hymn until I heard it for the first time in St Pauls during the 3 choirs festival. Magical.

I play the Flute in the Instrumental Consort which is part of the Choir of my Church, we haven't been able to congregate for the past four Sundays, yet, I know that is all God's will. Please post more Hymns of The Renaissance, they are filled with an inexplicable beauty that no other music has, a beauty that comes from Heaven. Thank you for your Channel, and permit me to repeat myself; *Please* publish more Hymns like this one, they reflect The Light of The Lord in this _"Valley of the Shadow of death"_ we're all going thru. God Bless you and all around the world, Amen

I particularly needed this comforting hymn at a moment of crisis recently. So pure and simple. My evening prayer now.

I first heard this hymn when I was young-the boys at my brother’s boarding school sang it every night before dinner. It touched me with its unusual beauty even then. I have rediscovered this hymn several times since then, and have always found it very beautiful and very soothing to the soul.

We sung this at the end of every church choir practice sixty years ago. I have sung it to myself almost every night since.

Verse two, reversed Tenor & Treble is wonderful, especially with a variation to harmony in the cadence. Lovely.

One of my favorites! My bell choir would have performed it last weekend if we had not been suspended because of the virus.

morphthing1 Interestingly my MHS Choir doubles the Soprano part down an Octave with a Tenor 2, & even the Tenor part up an Octave with a Soprano 2 so we could fill the gaps up & also add some notes above the lead line.

morphthing1 Yeah the Choir in this recording is singing everything a half step higher than written probably because they're having trouble singing some of the lower notes.

Why did they say awful day?
@eoghdes184 жыл бұрын
Because back in the old days it meant full of awe.
@GeneAutry23 жыл бұрын
Also because it meant the judgment day when all will be called to account for their lives,
