This just popped up on my feed which is awesome because I am singing Cantus on this recording and it takes me right back to one of my favourite ever recording sessions in Trinity antechapel!! Love that this is on KZbin, and ❤ Sweelinck! Such a joy to sing.

I have a weakness for the Geoffrey Burgon solo version used as television credits music (to the TV adaptation of John Le Carrés Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), but this is another favorite.

Had the privilege of singing this at Ely Lady Chapel many lifetimes ago. The echo and the beautiful music ebbing over each other like waves heading to the shore. Ending in a smooth ripple. Calming and life affirming.

Might I, as a fellow lover of Handel and his God, add a thought on the word "Amen?". It is a Hebrew word which Luther translated "Yea, yea, LORD, may it be thus with my soul also!". Today we might say, "Me too!". It is to agree with the Almighty with the while person. Further, the first word in Genesis is "bivarit" in Hebrew, meaning "In the beginning " all in one word. Its first letter is a "bet' or "b" to us. Amen is the last word in the Bible and ends with a 'nun' or 'n' to us. If we combine the first letter of the Hily Bible and its last it is 'bet' nun' or 'BN' which pells "Son" in Hebrew! And who is this son? Yeshua min Nazaret', the Messiah!

Met het koor waar ik zing in Spanje,Cataluña, zijn we dit aan het instuderen voor kerstconcert. Prachtige muziek, ik hou van de Russische meeslepende tonen. Maar de uitspraak is lastig om onder de knie te krijgen en de vele legato's, lange noten of op en neer golvende tonen maken dat je soms letterlijk ADEMLOOS staat te luisteren

Like many others, I can still sing this in my head, having sung the solo as a Derby Cathedral chorister in the late 40s and early 50s under Dr. Heath-Gracie. Beautiful piece.
