Neel Beke Referees at fighter meetings are supposed to enforce two rules, protecting the fighter from damage and giving him every chance, I've had IKF referees even tell me "show me something or I'm stopping it", they should have given him a chance, it was a tournament final with a lot of money and possible championship fights at hand. 8 man tournaments are grueling, should have let him go out on his shield.

This is a very late response and i might be wrong.. but actually i think this is one of the best referee decisions i have ever seen😅 let me explain cause i know it sounds crazy.. the thing is Glory doesnt allow standing 8 counts (which is absolutely BS, since this can happen), so when he counts he has to stop the fight.. And with the way Danyo was walking (for a moment not even knowing where the opponent was) that are clear signs of being out on the feet, like i remembered a documentary about a boxer dying in the ring and experts telling the signs that his body was in real danger, that was exactly like this.. to call it without hesitation and lets be honest if Danyo took another blow that could have been career ending or at least shortening, he protected the fighter and under normal rules the fight. He could have looked Danyo in the eye, see his response and then make a better decision. But now he had to call it for the Danyo’s safety and within a split second he remembered that incredibly stupid no standing 8 count rule (which is supposed to be there for more ko’s, but in reality it puts fighters health on the line like this) and to me it is quite impressive… That is ofcourse assuming that this is the situation. i dont really know the Ref that well so i cant judge by other fights, but i think this “bad call” is actually more a “bad rule”…

I guess in earlier fights he got injuries by in low kicks as you can see after Spong kicked low kick he started to be on his back foot. So spong knew that and kicked twice

It looked like an early stoppage but once the ref makes that decision it's final. I do honestly feel that Ilunga would of gotten hurt worse anyway. He was badly rocked, he was defending himself when the ref jumped in to be fair but the ref probably felt he was just saving him from further unnecassary punishment.
