They sound all right from the cloister but don't sound good from the ringing chamber.

What are those pipes above the bells for?

They are over the front 4 bells and direct some of the sound into the ringing chamber. Makes those bells clearer and easier to hear amongst the larger bells.

Theyve got them at wakefield cathedral and at st pauls

It's truly a gash bell, along with the other 4 back bells, they're really not befitting the tower.

When the bells were restored in 1979, it was recommended that the tenor be recast but they wanted to retain the Rudhall tenor, poor though it is.
