Thank you for this video. Just received my Glowforge Pro and got it set up yesterday. I have some things I want to make using the pass-through, but was unsure of how to do it. Feel much better about attempting this now. Also, it's nice to see someone using Inkscape. I refuse to spend that much money for Illustrator.

Like Kimber’s Crafty Place said, I’ve had my GF for a few months now and have been reluctant to attempt anything with the pass through as I haven’t seen anything showing a good way to line up the cuts. And to be honest, I was trying to figure out how you would make a file that was 8’ long and make it start/stop at the right places.... Keep up the great videos. I’ve just sub’d.

Can this be done with say a split monogram with name design if all one piece and design is welded ahead of time? After first ,cut how far do you move your wood towards the back to start second one? When using the pass through, does any smoke escape the cutting area? This works with venting turned on?

I've not had any smoke escaping. I think the GF exhaust fan creates a negative pressure. It seems to be trying to pull out more air then the input fan allows in. This will cause all the small cracks where it can leak to pull air in as well. Also there are vinyl or rubber "flaps" on the pass through ports that seal down on the material.

Can I use the passthrough slot with the front and back panels open in order to feed thicker wood through?

The Glowforge has a front door that can be tricked into being closed with magnets (I have never tried and do not suggest it due to safety reasons). The back of the machine is only a slot and not a door that can be opened.

How do you keep your board from moving laterally when you are pushing it through the pass?

Marissa Tutko, I keep the straight edge of the board pushed up against the right side of the crumb tray. 😀

Hi, I cannot get this to work. I line it all up and everything but it doesn't cut where I join the to sections of the word. It is always off by about .25". Do you have any ideas?

Where do you get your wood? and what size and type of wood is?

I like using 1/8" ply. I bought this from Home Depot, but also like buying Baltic Birch from small laser suppliers like T&C Laser Materials.

How thick is the wood? I want to cut 1/2" inch thick is that possible?

The wood I used is 1/8". You can cut up to 1/4" through the passthrough. If you are wanting 1/2" you can cut two passes and layer them to achieve the 1/2" height.

Okay so I have watched this a million times, all of my ovals within the L’s E’s and S’s are still not moving. What am I missing? Please help

Do you mean they're not cutting? Make sure you combined the entire 'section' together when in Inkscape. I found it easier to do if i moved each section/layer out of the way for better visibility. Otherwise, i tend to miss a piece.
