I just about broke when Ellie tried to play the guitar at the end. Playing the guitar was one of the last things she has to remember Joel by and her desire for revenge against Abby is precisely what took that away from her. I remember as she was suffocating Abby, instead of flashing back to the bloody image of Joel, she finally had good image of Joel to remember him by. I think losing her fingers in the fight is what triggered that. Thank you for sharing such a great story with all of us. God bless you all.

The lyrics in "Future Days": "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself" are a perfect match for the story because Ellie lost Joel and committed atrocities she never would have before as a result. She lost herself.

that ending with abby is so uncomfortable to watch. the way they both stared at each other knowing it's not worth it anymore, even throughout the fight. i think this game demonstrate the human emotion perfectly and how it is able to make us do even the most unexplainable things. how we are willing to go to extreme length just to feel like we are alright, even if it could cost everyone around us.

1. Ellie and Abby did not even kill each other for revenge, but they realized that vengeance did nothing but push their loved ones away and get some of them killed. 2. Ellie and Abby did some awful things, but I hope they get a clean, fresh start. Ellie goes back to Jackson and is forgiven by Dina, so they live in peace with J.J. and hope that Abby and Lev found the Fireflies so they can live in peace too. 3. I think Firefly's slogan "If you are lost in the darkness, look for the light" means to help people become better. I don't know, but I love the slogan.

@K1ng1995 Жыл бұрын
The reason I loved the game was because it introduced to modern audiences the concept of TRIBALISM!! As well as our need for closure. Tribalism is about identifying with some people more than others because they are from your group. It gets its name from the historical concept of a tribe or clan - the tight knit groups of family and friends that make up hunter gatherer groups and eventually evolved in different societies to have a million different layers of complexity built on that - but refers more to a cognitive group than one forged with ties of blood: your coworkers, your family, your friends, the viewpoint characters of a piece of fiction and those closest to them, members of political or religious or social organizations you're involved in, people with your specialization at university...all of these are your tribe. So, if you have played the first game, Elly is part of your tribe. Joel is part of your tribe. When Joel killed the doctor and all the rest at the end of the first game, he was doing right because he was protecting Elly, protecting the tribe. When Abby killed Joel, while we can understand that it while it was a revenge killing for the death of her father, it is also an attack on the tribe. Abby is somehow less human than Elly and Joel are, because she is not part of the tribe, less worthy of empathy. So, it is natural to continue the cycle of vengeance. And several characters do. Not just Elly - Tommy is another member of their community who bets it all on a bid for revenge. The immediacy of empathy is one problem - it makes short range ideas of trying to help feel more valuable than they are. But when it comes to disputes between groups, it is tribalism that really ruins things, because the people who are a part of your group mean more than the people who do not. That is the instinct that helps us survive in harrowing situations - it makes us cooperate with other members of our group to work together to overcome odds that individually would be impossible to beat. But it is also the instinct that drives us to terrible things. And it is an instinct that leaders can harness to make us do truly despicable things. (See Kristallnacht for one noteworthy and very well documented example, see the Rwandan Genocide for a relatively recent example...there's thousands of examples spanning history.) And that is the thing The Last of Us 2 suggests, at least to me. That tribalism is dangerous, and we should not be so willing to just dive headlong into it. (Certainly, a message that needs to be said in current times, what with various internet communities forming all sorts of insular tribes with very specific world views, various political factions around the world and their rivalries.) Tribalism is useful to a point, but in a society as complex as the one we have built, we need to recognize that it is a very simplistic and instinctive viewpoint, and that there's more complexity to the situation than what that viewpoint alone indicates. Roughly speaking, it is the same message - that it is better to look at the big picture, but the example of an empathetic response to a family not having the money for Christmas being to buy a toy for their child does them no harm, it just does substantially less good than devoting time to reducing/eliminating systemic poverty would do. Tribalism can be outright harmful. Even one person who is acting purely based on tribal instincts can do so much damage to everyone around them. As Elly does by hunting Abby. As Abby did by hunting Joel. As Joel did by opting to save the one girl, he knew rather than letting the doctors sacrifice her to save humanity. It is worth noting, however, that empathy is also the building block of all this big picture thinking. Without empathy, why should someone go out of their way to help someone else? There's enlightened self interest - if I help you now, you might feel the need to help me when I am in your position, that kind of thing. But that only goes so far. Why does Bill Gates donate money to help with sanitation projects in the developing world? That is not enlightened self interest - there is no rational argument that Bill Gates will ever be forced to live unrecognized in, say, rural Kenya and thus be in a position where he will want some foreign billionaire to fund a sewer system in whatever town he is in. It is empathy - the recognition that the people of these far-off places are still people, still worthy of help, regardless of how far they are from one's own comfortable life here in the comfort of our nice, western homes.

I have criticized SO many/all mainstream sequels I've come across (GOW: Ragnarok, Assassin's Creed Unity and Mirage, Resident Evil 8, etc.) This one keeps being the only mainstream sequel I not only love, but praise. I find the woke integrates well with the story instead of overwhelming it, the message is deep and well told, Abby might not be what everyone wanted, but I find her shortcomings necessary and appealingly human, Joel's death, while dishonorable, I think it highlights he was so badass, they couldn't even defeat him fairly, raising the emotional stakes... From my perspective, I think "TLOU 2" is the only sequel that managed to hold its status and conquer the hearts and minds of the right people, in the right way, which is by causing both hate and love. I mean, even the haters say the game looks better in "Chronological order", so if this ain't proof this sequel actually managed to hold up to its predecessor's glory... You tell me what you think of this opinion of mine regarding the mainstream sequels we've gotten through out the years.

this game was a masterpiece idc what anyone says. the scene where tommy was the sniper was one of the most badass moments i ever seen in gaming, the moral that revenge does nothing but cause more damage was genius , the hate u have for abby and then u play as her and slowly start to understand her a bit , to the fight at the end where ellie had to get her runbacks with abby since she got her ass beat the first time was just golden. say what u want this game will go down as my favorite game of all time. part 1 was amazing, part 2 was just on a different level imo.

Exactly. Some parts bug me, but all the "hate" it got were for rhe dumbest reasons. Killing Joel was genius. It HURT people. Having Abby live was genius. It ANGERED people. You even feel for Abby. Even if you think her choice was stupid as hell in the long run. I hope they do pt 3 and kill her, and then maybe Ellie dies in the process. Killing a beloved morally torn character like Joel was excellent writing. It got viewers emotional which is a goal. And Joel wasn't even really mad. He just wished he knew exactly who they were but he knew regardless that one of his past evil deeds had come back to haunt him. Too bad it was probably the only "bad" deed he did that many people agree was the right moce
@zm8w88 Жыл бұрын
@@oldkingcrow777 yeah few parts had lazy writing like how abby lets ellie live and ellie leaving the map the ideas were great but u can tell they rushed that a bit which was fine but its my only critique, other than that imo it was incredibly good, i was mad that abby didnt die but i like to think ellie realized how much damage the revenge game can cause and wasnt willing to kill lev leaving someone to take that revenge upon herself, possibly hurting dina and the baby in the future during midst of revenge on ellie, plus this game series was made to do the complete opposite of what u think is gonna happen and is extremely unpredictable which is why its so fckn good and different than other games.

Part 2 fucking sucks. Revenge isn’t sloppy if you’re not a bitch about the execution. Fuck the “morality” of revenge how does it make sense that Ellie’s internal conflict is not getting to die? That’s suicide gaslight AND if anything Ellie realizes in the end “holy shit Joel really went through a lot to save me and him not letting me die is what breaks the cycle of pointless deaths”. @glp I never bothered looking into TLOU until the HBO show came out this spring and I decided to give it a try. After finishing, I decided to find a game movie of part 1 on KZbin since I don’t have a PS and found yours. I’d watched your game movies before so I knew it would be premium. After part 1 I moved onto Left Behind. I fell in love with Joel and Ellie after both games, and was excited of the prospect of them building their relationship in part 2. Unfortunately as it turns out part 2 would only tear them apart, which I still haven’t forgiven the writers for. Before I started watching this video I accidentally stumbled upon Joel’s fate on Wikipedia. That was only the start of the devastation this game would eventually give me. I do wish you wouldn’t have had to cut out Take on Me in the music store, as it’s a beautiful moment and arguably the last moment of Ellie’s innocence before they meet WLF and she starts down the dark path she doesn’t escape until 15 minutes from the end. Perhaps you can find a way to keep that full song in, as well as do more of the things Ellie can do in the museum flashback (calling Joel a dinosaur, women’s bathroom mirror, putting the hat on Joel) if you ever need to redo this game movie. Anyway, I’m rewatching your game movies of all 3 parts for a 4th time since I spend so much time thinking about Joel and Ellie’s relationship when I’m not watching and I need the repetition to make my devastation less raw. Thank you for making them, as I haven’t found a single channel that did videos of all 3 games and comes close to the quality of yours. I know you play a lot of games, but I hope the TLOU story impacted you too.

Getting rid of bad people gives Ellie absolute grounds for her actions that Abby doesn't have. Then Ellie ruined it by becoming a psychopath BUT....... it's hard to place blame on her when she was innocent for the better part of events and had a far more traumatizing life to the point that Abby looks childish to the audience. That's what we're seeing here. The fireflies treated Joel and Ellie like shit though, Abby doesn't really have the grace to go off the wall the way Ellie did after getting treated like shit and THEN hunted.
@hypnos2434 Жыл бұрын
Who did Ellie and Joel really lose (from part 1) that the Fireflies are to be blamed for? Sarah was killed by military, Ellie's an orphan, Marlene was killed by Joel; Riley, Tess and Sam were bitten by an infected, Henry committed suicide. And then there's Abby whose father was a doctor hoping to find a cure, was killed by Joel because he wanted to play dad and not respect Ellie's wish for her life to mean something. So, tell me who's the "bad people" that needs to be rid of? And who has more right to be vengeful?
@theresam8110 Жыл бұрын
@@hypnos2434 I was not trying to say they are a bad person morally as in they are "very bad bad people". I was saying from the perspective of Ellie, and also her community that essentially got raided, they are a threat to the world and are violent people. They are criminals to her community no matter how much right Abby has to purse honor. It's an average thing in their time to pursue justice against "violent people". Also I'm not sure if I mentioned but Joel pursued self defense even if it was against the last hope of humanity, they didn't give him the knowledge of whether it had any half decent probability of success.

Minus the man tits during the gratuitous sex scene (there ARE some weird things with Druckman/the other writers, but that doesn't take away from their pure talent) I loved all of this. Weirdos call critics bigots, but there are legitimate criticisms. A lot of the hate is just fools who can't handle a good story. Joel getting horribly killed was perfect. He wasn't even mad, it just sucked she essentially tortured him. We got the satisfaction of Tommy not dying, but then she spares Abby. This is all awesome story telling. It HURT people that Joel died. He had done horrible things, but a zombie apocalypse will cull the weak, and he felt immense guilt for it. He paid his dues many times over in his later years. Abby did the exact same thing Joel and Ellie would have. They're all selfish, which again a zombie apocalypse will do heh. It's so good. It's hard to put into words. Ellie and Tommy's rage is the exact equal opposite to Abby's, and in a way while they do "blame" each other they don't at the same time. I think again it goes down to the fact Abby tortured Joel. Had she just quickly killed him, none of this might have happened. Literally 99% of the characters "deserve" to die for one thing for another and wouldn't blame the killer if it was a quick punishment. Just why did they have to do Abby dirty like that though with the tits scene. Plenty of women (including the character model) have toned, strong muscles but also have tits.... that shit felt like some weird fetish insertion. Other than that, killing Joel and sparing Abby (but killing Literally everyone she loved) is just great storytelling despite dumb critics on both sides of opinions. It made us FEEL a certain way, and it wasn't satisfying. Not only does that leave it open for a 3rd and final game, but there is a school of thought with directing where you purposely leave it unsatisfying. It's much more evocative. I think it was Hitchcock though, who said that you need to give the audience that satisfaction, or they'll hate you. It was a different time though, and it's a game not a movie. I think the deep dissatisfaction works so well and leaves the audience FEELING something which is an awesome result. Who cares if critics are pissed about Joel, they already bought the game, ans all that proves is that you succeeded in creating an amazing character because they loved him so much it HURT to have him die so dirty and never truly be avenged.

I just finished TLOU part 2 just now, man..........speechless. If they make a 3rd game, it will surely be interesting. And it definitely has room for one too. I don't think HBO should make a second season show. Probably won't do any justice to the series what so ever..

The show was ok..the actors were alright but I’m just excited too see what they change around and stuff this time

Never played the part II, first game was too much for me. So I'm watching this to get the idea, what happens really in the game, before they air the series... but I am not sure at all, that I will be able to watch this all the way to the end... 🥺😬😱

People don't appreciate that Abby and Joel are the same person. 90% hate Abby and love Joel, many see both sides and a small portion think Joel is evil for his past mistakes. But both of them are only in their own reality. Joel thinks the risk of Ellies life isn't worth it. After all they're doing great all things considered at that time. Abby thinks her father is the "only person capable" of curing this shit, and any sacrifices he deems worthy, are justified. I think Abby is objectively worse cause she's so entrenched in her ego that she sacrifices all her friends, and somehow convinced herself that her dad was some God level scientist

Will Ellie's vengeance got Jesse killed and kill Abby's friends who aren't responsible for Joel's death.

There was also that bit where she was knowingly going to kill an unarmed defeated pregnant woman and claim it was justified. Keep in mind, Joel doesn't think he's the good guy.

@@65firered I'm assuming you're referencing when Abby was going to kill Dina? That's another excellent point showing Abby is the more sinister of the two. Ellie didn't know the pregnant woman trying to kill her was pregnant until afterwards. And yes, Joel doesn't feel as if he's the good guy. No self righteous hero complex.
@oldkingcrow777 Жыл бұрын
@@65firered great point. Abby seems worse in a big way because she actually thinks she's 100% justified in her vengeance. While Joel has no misconceptions about his morality. Ellie was kind of his savior I think letting him forgive himself. He wasn't mad at all when they went to kill him, he was more pissed that they just attacked Tommy. Neil druckman has said some things that annoyed me, and Abby's weird steroid tits felt unnecessary, but I think he and his team are super talented. I don't know if a game has ever captivated me like this one did and I get the cult following now
@kumarcollins585 Жыл бұрын
@@oldkingcrow777Bruh Abby's entire family was destroyed because of Joel. I mean her dad, the freaking fireflies, all friends killed by Tommy and Elli and the WLF and Issac who fell out because of Owen..who got tired of the WLF after he followed Abby to bring Joel to justice. ....you damn right she was JUSTIFIED IN SLICING DINA'S THROAT. Who also came to Seattle to KILL HER. Are you kidding?..I liked Joel but there is no Moral comparison. He did shitty things that he paid for. And that's that. They are not the same.

Oh man this game, I only played it once, visual graphics are the best I've ever scene, the gameplay is phenomenal and the music is so emotional. I'm just still so angry at the story of this game with Joel and playing as Abbie for half the game. The trailers were a lie basically, and the ending is so hard to enjoy. I think I'll only play this game again if they'll be a 3rd game and they do right by Ellie.

I like partially agree with you, I don’t like the entire layout of the story, the flashing back and forth constantly, I think you play as Abby wayyy too much. I hate Dina’s character. They kill off Joel way too quick (substitute some Abby time for more Joel time in the beginning). Overall though the story is really good and honestly one of the games that genuinely has a life lesson.
