I don’t know why everyone talks about John being dumb, when he’s one of the most astute and articulate characters in the game while also being quite witty.
@supremedreams67895 жыл бұрын
John isn't dumb. People probably got that idea from RDR2 since it's more fresh in their minds. But John was never dumb, he was just irresponsible in 2 because he was young and selfish. Also a lot of people don't seem to understand his personality either. Some say he's boring compared to Arthur but Arthur is more charismatic and has a childlike sense of humor. John is introverted and more in line with the lone gunslinger trope. But like you said John is very witty as well, he had some memorable lines in this game, especially with Edgar Ross.

I can't fault RDR2, it was in a league of its own... but RDR1 being the first of its type for a long time was trying to give us everything we loved about westerns, the lone Mysterious gunslinger who is really a good man, and all the other stereo types, brutal killers, sneering corrupt bureaucrats, drunk Irishmen, town sheriffs standing against a tide of lawlessness, gold obsessed loons, snake oil peddlers, Mexican revolutionaries etc. It was very indulgent and I loved every moment of the story....aside from Edgar Ross of course.

"I want you to imagine this for a moment. Author joining Hosea and Lenny in a big tavern in the sky. They rejoice when they see each other once again. They talk about the good old times and how bad things use to be in the way back when. They sing, they dance, they drink until the years feel like they have flown by. All of a sudden they see the tavern door swing open once again. They see John walk in and remove the hat that Arthur gave him all those years ago. Silence falls under the tavern for the first time in years. The group stands to their feet to meet him in sorrow. "I tried guys." John says. Arthur places a hand on John's shoulder and utters the only thing honest enough. "We all did son... Now give me that damn hat back and grab a beer.'" KZbin User - Unlimited Power. If you watched the entirety of 2 and rewatched this, you really see how Arthur and John developed. 2 really showed us how John grew up in Arthur's shadow. Both were mentored by Dutch. But John was more so mentored by Arthur. In the end when you get to play as Jack its a wonder how he came to fill the boots of Arthur and John. Makes me love the game more. If they ever did a Red Dead 3 game, I'd hope they mix in some aspects of the future in terms of world War 2 era weapons in the hands of mobsters with a mix of early cars and horses. Maybe what happens to Jack? All in all this was a really nice story and just reminded me of playing the old red dead 2 game.

Just finished watching both this and Red Dead Redemption 2 and it just breaks my heart, Jack Marston had no choice but to get revenge, I know revenge is a fools game but when you have nothing but that what else can you do? He was raised in the gang, then once his mother and father got out and try to live the straight and narrow those federal agents (or pinkerton's I don't know which?) Kidnapped him and his mother and forced his father to hunt down his friends in exchange for his and his family safety, then before his father could try to keep him on the straight and narrow here comes agent Ross in his gang of military thugs going back on his word and no apologies or explanation on why he went back on his word, people complain that Jack shouldn't go for revenge but people just don't see the bigger picture, John didn't get to spend enough time with his son to teach him that again revenge is a fools game and whose fault is that? Edgar Ross, if he kept his word who knows what Jack future would have been, Agent Ross stole his father time he could have spent with his son and wife, he stole Uncle's life, he stole his father's life, he stole his mother's health, Ross just robbed Jack of everything, because think about it without his father or uncle to help maintain the ranch they probably couldn't meet ends meet, didn't have money for a doctor to cure his dear old mother of the disease she died from, Ross didn't just go back on his word he stole everything from Jack including again his future, revenge is all Jack had left in his life if he had anything else worth living for he probably would have take it.

Well that’s that. I watched this after finishing your Red Dead Redemption Game Movie episodes, even though I remembered it pretty well. I ended up watching pretty much the whole thing, only skipping about a half hours worth. Maybe it’s because I have so much nostalgia for this game, but to me, it actually seemed better than the second game. The characters, while fewer, seemed more developed, more authentic. Even the western feel seemed more authentic watching this that Red Dead 2, despite the fact it should be the other way around, since this is set over a decade later.

It's definitely because of your nostalgia-goggles, which is fine. But characters in this game are not at all believable, most of them are just charicatures or stereotypes. A lot of the voice acting sounds really low-budget, the camera-work and music score don't really help sell the cinematics either. Most every character in RDR2, while not always fleshed out, was at least interesting to talk to, if not get attached to. Not even to mention the development of all the characters in RDR2, especially Dutch. It was so seamless and believable the way they progressed as people. RDR2 is easily Rockstar's most impressive game to date, at least from a story-telling/character-developing/cinematic/visual standpoint.

@@patsfan365 Yes, totally agree. Whilst I love RDR1, the character development is obviously much better in RDR2.

It’s half nostalgia, half true. The characters are purely nostalgia. Red Dead 2 I think did a much better job of well rounded and believable characters than RDR1s cliche ones. The chubby snake oil merchant, creepy grave robber, old no nonsense sheriff, etc. (don’t get me wrong I love it still but they’re definitely not as well written as RDR2). However it is more West because. Well it’s in the West. RDR2 is actually more south east for 80% of the game. Also, those cliche characters in the first make it feel more west-y. If you think of fistful of dollars or Good Bad & Ugly all the characters are the cliche ass ones.

RDR2 actually has a lot of wild west feel, it's just that people don't think so because they're ignorant and think that the west is nothing but endless desert. Lemoyne doesn't have to be Louisiana or Mississippi, it can easily sell as Texas and Roanoke Ridge is a lot like the Ozarks (although the Ozarks are fairly eastern). Other than that, The Heartlands, Big Valley, and Ambarino are what most of the western states look like; believe it or not As for the main story, it's definitely more wild western in the beginning than the end, and that's the point. It's supposed to feel like the west is dying and the civilized world is growing

I have a question for you GLP (or anyone thats not gonna be a troll) hopefully someone can help me out I just discovered this channel recently and I saw the 2 videos on the Halo saga and I just want to know if I should watch both of them or can I just watch the updated version and get everything from the first one and then some

Commander Knight just watch the updated one thats what i did

Sorry for the late response, but like the other comment said, just watch the updated version. We'll be updating it again when the next Halo is out, which won't be until about next year. We want to add significant things every time we do a new one, but it's definitely worth watching the saga v2 now.
