Still Wakes the Deep is a survival horror video game developed by The Chinese Room and published by Secret Mode. The story follows an electrician named Cameron "Caz" McLeary who is trapped on a damaged oil drilling platform in the North Sea in 1975, having no ways to escape while being pursued by a mysterious monster under harsh weather conditions.

I feel like realistically speaking if Caz didn’t speak to everyone before going to his bosses office he would’ve saved enough time to get on the helicopter and live to avoid all this mess on the rig
@thewatcher97785 ай бұрын
in all reality caz would have died a long time ago due to his personality of asking qustions at the wrong time and yelling out into the dark for someone
@victorialeahhАй бұрын
This is actually not true! So, it’s only after he gets to rennick’s office that rennick demands that they drill through the biomass, causing the explosion. The amount of time it took to get to the office wouldn’t have mattered. I think he was fired specifically for the comment about ‘trouble with the missus’ after rennick’s call with the drill team.
@victorialeahhАй бұрын
Then again, I can see your point. Realistically, if he had made it before the phone call, and was being fired regardless, yeah. He definitely could have made it out!

@@missdire I can barely understand them as a native English speaker, I knew this joke about Scotts but got-dayum do they sure amp it up out in the North Sea. Scottish is nearly unintelligibly, it's like hearing 15th century anglish.
@Hardrada885 ай бұрын
@drek9k2 your comment is almost unintelligible lad. Not a joke at all about the Scottish dialect. You can hear English (as in actual English) Scottish, Irish in this game, it's refreshing to hear someone say "lecky" and know what they actually mean because it's in context for once😂 it's fun to confuse the outsiders. As a rule of thumb, unless your from the island your not a true 'native' English speaker. A lot of variations and bastardisations of the language outside the country. Having worked through the North Sea, can tell you it's cold as anything and she is not a lady you'd trifle with. Looks like a good game in all fairness and one I'd try when having the time so. I worked with a fella from Pitlochry, reckon he'd enjoy the theme 😂 grand for a wind up

The one I love the most is when they have the full trifecta of intense accent, idiosyncratic/local syntax and grammar _and_ their voice/enunciation is uncommon. Remember the Irish sheep herder? Something like that. Completely alien.

Really cool place to have a video game, on an oil rig in the north sea. The sea even on a good day that if you go overboard you, with a safety vest, the odds of making it back alive onto the rig are pretty low. The waves are so big it's near impossible to keep your head above them and get a breath of air. Something you don't think about often. And great job re-creating the oil rig in such detail.
@KoolAidtheRED2 ай бұрын
I know it's a game but I can't help wondering how much Caz has messed up turning off random valves and tearing up electrical wires by hanging off of them, etc. He might be causing as much damage as the monsters as he is wandering through all the important areas turning things off and tearing things up.
@rosamunddrag89712 ай бұрын
The oil rig was fricked the moment they touched this unknown shiz under it. Therenia no point of being careful, the rig is not coming back up for work after all of this. Also, Finlay herself said that it was falling apart already by itself, with no help from monsters either

Most bosses will abuse their power, once they know who's to afraid to defend themselves... If you do a good job, then even the most un-respectful boss will understand that you're expensive and difficult to replace with someone else. The first time a manager or boss happens to scream at you, just reply: _"Sorry but I currently lack the time for an insult, I've more important work do! This is a brilliant game. Incredible detail on all the set pieces (especially rusted/worn textures), phenomenal writing and voice acting (natural dialogue!) and spectacular monster design. It’s basically a sea monster that you would see taking down a wooden galleon in old romantic paintings, but instead it’s fucking up an excessively engineered, angry Scottish oil rig. To see the monsters destroying it in real time, and the crew reacting, was artfully done…

several types of commenters and this shits funny 1. Game is good! Similar to Soma and Amnesia ( The Chinese Room actually made an Amnesia game believe it or not ) 2. Game is boring, walking simulator blah blah blah ( not every game needs combat ) 3. The devs are shitting on Britain, so this game fucking sucks ( oh boo hoo lmao, the devs themselves are based in Britain last I checked, and Scottish liberation all the way in these parts ) 4. Blasphemies weirdly enough? You're watching Eldritch horror and THAT's your issue? 5. Lack of lore? These guys are running on a skeleton crew, on a shitty rig, that dug up a mysterious pathogen / organism. How in the absolute fuck are they going to have any idea what this is, this isn't GTFO or L4D where they had scientific crews actively working on it Keep doing what your do G.L.P. We enjoy it:)

Chinese Room: for when you want a horror game without the second word Edit: Good visuals, sound, dialogue, and character writing, but the "walk down a winding hallway and press a button to see an animation" gameplay really messed up the pace. They almost had something cooking with the stealth sections, just needs polish and one or two more mechanics to vary it up. Replace the button pressing with actual puzzles and add more than zero lore about what that stuff is and you've got yourself a game. I get wanting to flesh out your characters before they get fleshed out, but you can do that and still give context to the creatures.
@Signy85 ай бұрын
Imo, the no context lends itself perfect to eldritch horror. Unknowable and incomprehensible to the human mind without breaking them mentally type shit.
@omegaultramaxАй бұрын
i think the fact that the horror-thing having next-to-none explanation actually works in its favor. It is simply a thing that exists, and you're stuck in a failing structure running all-round to keep it from meeting with poseidon. Though, i do agree that having more mechanics would've made the game more engaging as an actual Game To Play, but as an experience / story this is near-polished to a T imo.
