I used to have bad knee pain. I couldn't even kneel down and maintain the position for more than a few seconds as the pain would force me to stand up. This was back in late 90s. Internet wasn't much. Dial up with AOL. But I saw something about glucosamine so I thought I'll buy some and give it a try. I took it for almost two months straight not knowing what to expect and then finally one morning as I was kneeling down in front of the refrigerator and I realized that I could stay kneeling down without having to stand up. That was the beginning of getting rid of most of my knee pain. There were still some other issues but they lessen after a couple of years of taking glucosamine. It took a few years where I could jump from a few steps up and to the ground without any pain. Right now I have to make sure I don't kick anything or I can get a sore knee with the kicking leg. But overall it has worked for me. I'll keep on using this and hopefully I will never need to get knee replacement surgery. I'm 69 years old.

The research in the US does not find glucosamine to be effective but the studies in Europe find that it helps people and doctors recommend using it. I was on crutches ten years ago due to cartilage wear resulting in bone-on-bone damage. It took about three months before I felt relief from taking glucosamine and another three months to feel even more relief. I continue to take it. The brand you take matters. I now walk 2 - 4 miles a day.

@@-xyz-012 I took Costco (kirkland) brand recommended by their pharmacist for years and it helped a lot, then I took Osteo Bi-flex which is supposed to be the best. Ten years ago surgery was recommended and now I can sleep without pain at night. I walk 2 - 4 miles a day and I am in my eighties. To me it is like a miracle because ten years ago I had to use crutches and could barely go up/down stairs. However, Oster Bi-flex works best for my sister. It depends of your particular bodies biology. I wish you luck.

I live in practical world, if something is worn out from use. More use does not rebuild it.
@Danielle-zq7kb Жыл бұрын
@@stephenharvey5932Your body responds dynamically to normal use by rebuilding during rest phases as long as the building blocks are there. This means adequate rest and proper nutrition (balanced diet). Exercise is good for you, but weightlifting to fatigue and not giving yourself 48 hours until you work that same muscle group won’t give your body enough time to repair and strengthen. Your body can handle more stress when young then as you get older. For injuries you need more rest and maybe special nutrition or immobilizing the injured area for a time. Overuse injuries or chronic stress to a particular joint causes the body to not have the time needed to heal. Chronic poor diet means that even with enough rest, the building blocks aren’t there for the repair. It’s like going to a mechanic to fix your car and they don’t have the right parts or they use an inferior copycat part. Or maybe they have the right part, but they rush through the repair, that’s like not getting enough rest.

Thank you soo much for this video. Would this help for plantar fasciitis?
@EastWestPhysiotherapy2 жыл бұрын
Hi, there is no research for this supplement for plantar fasciitis. Therefore, we don't recommend that for plantar fasciitis.

@@EastWestPhysiotherapy glucosamine for height

I've used glucosamine and chondroitin for months at a time. It did nothing for me. I read that it doesn't work for everybody. So, if nothing happens that's something that happens.

Yes, that is correct. There is no magic pill. For some it works wonders, others it may not work. This is due to a variety of personal variables (age, activity level, weight, genetics, general health, etc)

You are right, I've read multiple studies, some people report that it does nothing. I had to take it for six months before the pain started to go way in a significant way in my knees. The same goes for turmeric, some people say it helps with inflammation pain in their knees and others report no pain relief.

I think problem is that body has no way to distribute nutrients into cartilage, so it can give only light antiflam./pain relief!

Thank you for the break down, been curious about this supplement. What is your take on black seed oil? Can I get benefits in pill form or strictly have to drink the stuff and keep in the fridge/cooler? Thanks❤

Hi, we haven't done a deep dive on black seed oil - but we will keep this in mind for our upcoming videos!

Hi Liz just came across your exercise videos and wondered if you can suggest set of exercises for arthritic knees with torn meniscus in both. Thanks
@EastWestPhysiotherapy Жыл бұрын
@ipink Lady, thanks for your question. I would recommend first starting with the beginner exercises for knee OA. The exercises for a torn meniscus and OA are quite similar, as both focus on the hip and knee strength to minimize impact to the knee joint. I would first start with the beginner OA exercises and move on to the intermediate level as you feel you need more challenge. The exercises generally should not cause any pain other than the normal muscle pain you would experience after starting a new exercise program. I would also recommend exercises in the pool, it is a great way to strengthen the muscles, and improve joint mobility without the impact. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions! 🙂
