I'm sorry, but one unrelated question. Etching with hydrofluoric acid requires mica. Is there anything else that comes into consideration instead of mica and can you explain a little about it. Of course, thanks for a lot of ideas and great work.

Thanks Herve, I'm glad you found it useful! I really think that spiked roller will work on a larger piece, so I'm going to do more tests :)

Thanks Paul. I am going to do some experiments now re grit mesh and sandblaster pressure to work out what's best. Up until now I have been using 120 grit garnet and 120psi. Works OK but I will now lower the pressure and see what happens.

Those fern bits are so nice looking! When you score the letters, are you doing every sharp angle (like inside the E), or just the outsides of the lettering into the main area? I’ve decided the best way for me to produce a piece is to win the contest, give you my design, have you mail the finished piece back, and hang it on my wall! 😂.
@happygilder10 ай бұрын
Cheers Ted! I just score the sharp angles on the outside. How about, if you win the contest I do your design just past the sandblasting stage, then you can do the glue chipping, gilding and painting 😎

I have 0 idea what heat is needed for the chipping process... But I was wondering, would an electric blanket not be any use, or is that way too low a temp?

@@SetDirector unfortunately it costs me considerably more to run the channel than I make back from it. I tried to make a go of it but it’s just too niche a subject to be popular, so I’ll never make anything from it. I’m happy that I’ve made 100 videos for people to find, so hopefully they continue to encourage people to give it a try 😎

@@happygilder I thought you were doing it as a hobby, if you want to make a living from it, the next profession is lighting and advertising manufacturer.

@@SetDirector glass work is my hobby and always will be, I’m just not making videos about it anymore. I enjoyed it while it lasted and am proud to have helped people with the craft, but video editing isn’t something I particularly enjoy. Hopefully someone else will pick up where I left off, because there are some amazing glass artists on the Facebook group so maybe one of them will start a channel 😀🤞
