Is this method good for all rc tires? I’ve had some excess glue on the sidewall and once the rubber stretches or bends the glue turns white and flakes away from the rubber. How does this hold the rubber and wheel together? I don’t see how this gets down into the bead 🤔 unless I’m missing something. Just curious.
@morgfarm14 жыл бұрын
It's not a method I've personally used (i used to use the other method he mentioned, poor results) but it'll likely depend on the tire. I feel that those buggy tires are probably a softer and more porous compound than most, which allows that super-thin glue to just seep into the rubber. the last method I used was Seat the tire (like he already did) pull the WHOLE bead back nice and even on one side hold the rim over something that'll absorb your mess drop glue from the top of the rim and it'll wash down, rotate 30 degrees or so, top that up, turn the other way 30 degrees from your initial start, same thing, then slide the bead back into place and re-work. Repeat on the other side Repeat again for the other 3 tires. Still have to be REALLY fast and accurate, but it worked for me on 3 of my 4 wheels. The first one I just simply borked because I dropped the tire while trying to work with it.

Is the CA glue used for wood similar to The CA glue used for RC wheels. Newbie question I know 👍😀
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the comment! Some people have used CA intended for wood but with mixed results. Some brands are quite brittle and they will fatigue over time which will cause the bead to come loose. The way it was explained to me is that CA Glue that's formulated for RC Wheels has a rubberizer or something similar to make the glue joint a little more flexible. Other people say that CA glue is all the same stuff but it isn't. Even between brands of Wood CA glue, there are differences in performance.

When gluing 1/8th scale buggy tires, the thing that I find frustrating is that there is no lip between the tire and the wheel. In this video, there is a lip that allows for the thin CA glue to pool and then have it rolled around. You can't really do this with 1/8th buggy tires since the sidewall sits flush to the wheel. All the manufacturers need to do is add a little lip action, and problem solved for all those who are frustrated with gluing tires, including me. I suppose I could add a little bit of lip myself by pulling out the sidewall just about 1/16", but keeping it even will be the challenge.
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary4 жыл бұрын

Very good I like this method. I'd normally just buy whole wheels but I have too many sets. So I'm about to attempt this for the first time thank you. My only caveat on this video, is that you mention the shape of the tyre, from the 2 different inserts. (the more costly being less attractive) You then go on to show us, as an example, what the 2 look like side by side and its the opposite. So now I don't know if your just trying to sell me the dearer product or it was good advice and you were just simply mistaken. Either way that's why I never consider the opinion of anyone with a vested interest. I mention this as constructive criticism not to bash your work or upset you. In fairness the red inserts look better. More 'professional' and you do say the white ones are still a very good choice. Good salesman. Otherwise like I said great tutorial and really appreciate it. Now to get those damn old tyres off!

Can i use super glue?
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for commenting! Some super glues might work but it's hard to say for sure. C/A Tire Glue is, in fact, a specialized kind of super glue that has been formulated to remain a little more flexible when it sets. Regular super glues are usually quite brittle and will crack when the tires flex and, depending on the brand, they may have a different viscosity which could give you unpredictable results. I hope this helps.

For dirt racing do you recommend holes in the tyre or the rim or both?
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary7 жыл бұрын
James does both for his but he says it's mostly personal preference. 2 - 1/16" holes in the rim at equal points is usually good for most track conditions. Keep in mind though that in extremely wet conditions (not usually found in racing) piercing the belly of the tyre becomes more important so that any accumulated water will be let out. Why do you need to glue the tires
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony. The reason you need to glue the tires is because when they rotate at a high rate of speed the centrifugal force can be enough to make the tire expand so much that it will lose its bead altogether. Think of a dragster tire but on a much smaller scale. Sometimes an RC tire will come right off and go down the track on its own. It’s actually kind of funny but not to the guy who loses the race. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
@morgfarm14 жыл бұрын
@@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary Late to the party, I know, but it's absolutely hilarious when you've run the tire down so far the tread carcass comes off and passes your car going into a turn, and then come back to your truck to find the sidewalls are still glued in perfectly fine. I did that about 5 years ago in a local parking lot with an old 1998 Nitro 4Tec Pro.15. Turned so many laps with that old HPI belted Slick tire that it wore the edges of the tread so far down the tread came right off and I knocked down the curbing that acted as the outside wall. Most accurate tire failure I've ever had. Technically the only actual tire failure. Everything else was me being not smart with the trigger.

James Hollinger no, the tires, not the rim. The rims will be vented as well, but the tires need it as well. Without the tire vent, and moisture that get in the tire will stay. With a vented tire, and moisture in the tire will get “flung” out of it via centrifugal force.

Seriously Ben? No need to be sorry as everyone is entitled to their opinion on how they do this but did you also know that Losi Glue is thicker than the Sweep we were using here? With thick glue you have to pull the bead, but on the thinner stuff you don't and it gets in there just fine.
