My comment got deleted on a very popular channel for saying this same thing. They care more about selling plugins and courses than telling green ppl it's the actual recording process that's key. Overlooking the fundamentals.

We agree 100%! If you’re not starting with a great source, it’s almost impossible to get a great mix. That said - it’s very possible to poorly mix a great performance. It’s important to be sharp at every stage of the process if you want something that truly stands out. It starts with a great song, then a great performance, great tracking, great editing, then you get to the step we cover here - mixing.

Such a stark difference and mixed so well really fast! My only question is if this would be the normal way? Don't most vocal tracks use a 'Send' for the delay/reverb? Would this be a "better" way to do it?

I never really thought about it in an era aspect, but it's true. Although I never dove in the pro tools run it definitely could of happen BUT I ran across something else at the time...got familiar with it...and grew with it. So it make sense that the youngins would steer towards what's more convenient price and availability wish. In my honest opinion pro tools was only great for like 3 years at one point. After that I started hearing how it was inferior to a lot of other daws. That's when it became clear pro tools was mainly popular bc mixing engineers were receiving pro tool sessions (so in business you have to adapt or die). I'm currently just surprised they are so heavy with subscriptions. That's only going to leave so much money on the table bc the majority of musicians aren't making enough money from music to consider renting.

Great mixing! Just one question...What is your process to decide if to use xvox or xrack? 🤔
@nuroaudioАй бұрын
Great question - typically if it's a raw vocal, Xvox is the choice as it's the best toolset for vocals. Xrack would be the go to for instruments / busses / mixbus. Sometimes Xrack is great on a vocal bus to add some extra glue / polish, but that would be after Xvox is on all of the individuals - hope this helps!

Thank you! Great plugin combined with great tutor and mixing videos! How do you decide when to ride the vocal whether at the beginning or at the end? I mean do you recommend to use xrider always at the end of the chain after xvox? Is this vocal-chain order specific to xrider or a general mixing advice?
@nuroaudioАй бұрын
Great questions! Here’s the general thought process: If it’s meant to subtly tuck a vocal into the mix, Xrider goes at the very end of the chain. If the performance is overly dynamic (too loud and too soft, and compression isn’t smoothing it out enough by itself), and you want to use Xrider to do some more heavy dynamic correction, it’s best to put it first in the chain. Almost always, we’re putting Xrider at the very end of a chain. But once in a while, we’ll put it first to fix an overly dynamic performance.

Dummy newby here. Thanks just got bundle but not started yet. So i should have clean vocal track...then apply pitch correction xpitch.....and then this in chain right?
@kioleovo670520 күн бұрын
Hey hey, wanted to offer good tips. 1) Yes start clean and fresh; ensure you RECORD CLEAN; watch your sibilance; watch out for background humming/noise/echos; and make sure the levels are good. Its better to have audio too loud WITHOUT DISTORTION than a vocal track thats too quiet and you introduce other issues 2) Know the vibe of the song and what room(ambience) you require for the track. If its a song like he did, you want reverb and eq AFTER the vocals are recorded right. I do indie so i make sure the way i sound when i sing is airy like. 3) THE REST IS EAR TRAINING. The way you might mix for YOU can be different for different voices. The basics of a good mix are EQ/Balance/ Dynamics and panning. If you get those right, you can play around easier. Hope this helps 💐

Sounds amazing my question is, are there other plugins added to the chain before its done or just these 2

What levels are the best and dry vocals before processing?
@nuroaudioАй бұрын
Great question - generally, a good target would be between -16dB and -8dB, we typically prefer shooting for -12dB for tracking level of dry vocals.

Couple of questions 1. This plugin you're using seems to have it all in one but are you generally using any standalone EQs or Comps before and/or after using this tool? I don't really have any plugins that have all these options in one I just use stuff like REQ 2-6, LA2A, R-VOX Comp, and R Desser all separately before I worry about verb and delays. 2. Next question is does that chourus effect eliminate the need of recording double vocals to back up the lead? If not please explain why. Thank you much!
@nuroaudio21 күн бұрын
Great questions! 1. No - in this video and others on our channel, we're not doing any additional processing before or after. What you're hearing is just the raw vocal and whatever processing you see on screen! 2. Chorus doesn't eliminate the need to double track - if you want a "doubled vocal sound" (meaning you want it to sound like there are multiple stacks of vocals), the only way to get that effect is to record multiple takes. Chorus gives you a different sound that is somewhat similar, but not the same. Chorus is kind of a "synthetic" way to thicken a vocal, which sounds really pleasant and desirable if that's the effect you want, but it won't ever sound like you recorded double vocals. A lot of times, it's good to use a combination of both techniques - record doubles, and try applying a little chorus to the lead to thicken it up (if you're going for a very big sound, that is!) Hope this helps!

It’s still sounds like crap why poor vocal technique one and who ever eq the original was horrible to fatten it up make it sound thick most pro producers will triple track the vocal one center two panned with different effects on all three tracks so that processing doesn’t effect it by the way I record for all the major labels and major label artist as a writer! Lol
@JakeTheDawgMusicOfficialАй бұрын
It’s most likely just for example. Also no producers don’t triple track the same recording. They have you record all different takes to layer into one. If you just took the same vocals and layered them it would sound like butt.
@jittboy1Ай бұрын
@ I write for major labels and artist like Beyonce and and Luke Bryant work with producers like Max Norman and Bobby rock and yes they do 100 percent they may take the original copy paste and pan two with two different effects left and right and one in middle ! And won’t sound like butt why then harmonies would never be used to layer lol my opinion is then you must be independent very small and never were commissioned by a label . I will say from what I have witnessed is your 100 percent wrong and what you did still did not save they track one they way it was recorded and what was added . And what do effects do enhance like a doubler or chorus or detune lol
@jittboy1Ай бұрын
@ look it up goggle lol I just did and yes even a1 says thicker sound lol you should do better research on your craft not to insult you but to Be more Knowledgeable let me let me google Hit songs double or Triples vocal
@jittboy1Ай бұрын
@@JakeTheDawgMusicOfficial let Me know After you read you doubles or triples vocals
@jittboy1Ай бұрын
@ yes but copy paste and effect in each track like detune in one side or chorus to offset the other tracks yes that can be done as well or more mids on one side more low mid or treble in the other can also offset frequencies? Just saying

can you ACTUALLY start from beginning to end. A true tutorial. Yea you give some good tips but i personally think it would be more helpful if we saw and actual start to finish, bare dry vocals No skipping steps that could be critical to the mixing process

@nuroaudioАй бұрын
This is true! We like to think of a DAW / plugins more like tools you use to sculpt the sound into what you want it to be. We feel it’s easier to get a great mix with thst mindset, rather than coming from the mindset of “how to we clean and fix everything that’s wrong”. The “fixing” mindset usually leads to over processing.
