I braved the weather today and managed to get back out into the garden to continue working on the first two boxes. I managed to get both of them glued and ready to be addressed on a sunnier day!

My name is Matt Estlea, I'm a 24 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.
I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a further 1 year working as an Artist in Residence at the Sylva Foundation. I now teach City and Guilds Furniture Making at Rycotewood as of September 2018.
If you're interested in studying at Rycotewood, view their courses here:
www.mattestlea.com/rycotewood
I also had 5 years of experience working at Axminster Tools and Machinery where I helped customers with purchasing tools, demonstrated in stores and events, and gained extensive knowledge about a variety of tools and brands. I discontinued this at the start of 2019 to focus solely on video creation and teaching.
During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite 'Tool Duel' where I compare two competitive manufacturers tools against one another to find out which is best. I also have a Free Online Woodworking School which you should definitely check out!
www.mattestlea.com/school
I like to have a laugh and my videos are quite fast paced BUT you will learn a lot, I assure you.
Lets go make a mess.

Matt, I hope these projects are helping you out. I've been watching your workshop move videos today for the first time. My man, you worked your balls off for that shop. Turning a shit hole dump like that into a first rate wood shop; was incredible. I didn't even believe it was the same shop at first and I hope you get back in there soon, because you've earned every square millimeter of the place.

Hi Matt, love watching your video's. I'm 58 and 2 years ago I started learning woodworking as therapy after an eye operation. You, among several other youtubers have taught me a lot. Thank you for that and keep up the good work.

Your tightened wood box gave me an idea on my butcher bloc. I had little gap (approximate: 1/32) between some of my joint in a maple bloc. I just tryed spraying water with a push bottle. I got the gaps wet (I mean almost soaked in) and let them dry overnight. It didn't do a perfect job but a lot of those little gaps are less visible!!!! :-) Big fan of what you do! I gotta say that you motivated me on a lot of days to just go in my home shop and do something out of wood! Keep up the goodwork even if the actual situation is not perfect. Big love, LC

This reminds me of last summer when I built a small boat in drive with my neighbour Magda. At least a boat is going to end up sat in water so humidity is less of a worry but fine woodworking like you're doing is a real challenge. I hope Magda has been in touch with you BTW. She's a nurse and a told her she should apply for one of your boxes.

You only need to connect one corner to accurately size the base - as you discovered, taking apart a damp dovetailed box won’t do your joints much good! Then stick your base lining on with double sided tape before glue up. Just make sure your groove is wide enough.

I agree - I’ve had 4 oak drawers in daily use for 12 years now where the dovetails were so tight and accurate (I can’t take the credit - I used a Woodrat), I didn’t use any glue when I assembled them. No tendency whatsoever to come apart. But it doesn’t feel right, almost like a bodge.

Hello Matt, Firstly I'm surprised you didn't buy a gazebo with sides, secondly I'm equally surprised you didn't position the gazebo so it is up against the shed so you can move between gazebo and shed in the dry😉😏🤔. Going back to episode 1. Have a little more faith in yourself Mr. Your a very telented craftsman. I will be brutally honest here, I watched everything you put out in your early years when you didn't have you all singing all dancing toys. I'm really pleased for you and the success you have worked so hard to achieve, however, I began to loose interest after you moved into your now workshop and finished the assembly/cutting table. I lost interest because there are tons of folk with mega shops crammed full of expensive kit we can only drool over because we either can't afford them for lack of space or financial restraints. I have a feeling your creative block comes from your raw talent being shadowed buy your super fantastic equipment. You always brought good enthusiastic interesting content when it was you, your hand tools and those magic hands of yours. This garden workshop is brilliant, we can all relate to what you're doing and marvel at the skills you are forced to showcase having to go back to basics during these difficult time we all have to endure. Remember, there are plenty of Mark Spagnuolos of this world but only one Mat Estlea and one Paul Sellers. I have total respect for people like Mark Spagnuolo but those channels are more like tool shows. Right, that's my Victor Meldrew session done 😊 I wish you all the very best and success for the future👍
