Wow! This is magical! Watching this as part of revision for my master in psychiatry exam and this made me fully understand Glutamate synthesis. Thank you!

in layman's terms - is glutamate released when someone eats foods containing Mono-sodium-glutamate? And, would you say that people who are "Sensitive" to MSG that produces these high concentrations susceptible to developing diseases like mentioned above? Or, is it the other way around? I have dissociative disorder and my current symptoms mimic times in the past when I have noticeably ingested foods that contain MSG. The symptoms are similar. Brain-fog, confusion... all kinds of symptoms. Are you saying these are related? I just want to know if there is a way to connect the physiological effects of excess glutamate in the brain, with the physiological affects of dissociative disorder with the every day act of eating something containing ingredients that boost glutamate in the body/brain. Is there a connection?? This video mentions central nervous system responses. "Glutamatergic Excitation" I guess I'd like to see if there is more information about the connection between this and the central nervous system and disorders of the central nervous system. Did I develop Dissociation symptoms later in life because of my predisposition to be sensitive to excess glutamate or did early childhood trauma make my brain predisposition to experiencing excess glutamate in the brain. I'm not sure if I'm making sense. Maybe you have more resources for me or an extra explanation? Thanks in advance, loved the video.

Hey, you can get glutamate from food like MSG, but in reality, glutamate is produced in your body anyway, in the body's central nervous system from Glutamine. Glutamine is an amino acid that comes from your diet as well, and is also produced in the body, in muscles. MSG in culinary terms, is simply an additive, just like how you can also add extra sugar to food products, but there are foods that naturally contain sugar too. Some food that naturally contains high glutamate levels include seafood, tomatoes, some cheeses and processed meats, plus others. If you think you are sensitive to glutamate, you can reduce your intake from diet by looking for low glutamate foods. As for your dissociative disorder, I am not a psychologist nor a doctor (I study biomed), but some studies have linked consumption of glutamate with more psychiatric distress, this is not so surprising since glutamate is a neurotransmitter. You should ask a qualified neurologist.
