Good review, accurate. Have a bronze c/sub the 1st. of my now 7 Glycine's. Recently added a 1999 Airman 6. $ wise these are the best value / bang for the buck Swiss watches out there. Invicta saved Glycine so as long as they advertise / market them better, and keep the tradition Who Cares - i.e. Swatch group's ownings

Glycine all the way, nice collection :) Indeed, Invicta actually saved Glycine.
@anthonysmith29823 жыл бұрын
Yep. I'm a Glycine fan too. Don't own 7! Own 2. But the Airman Purist variants are one of my favourite watches; full stop. Undoubtedly Invicta saved Glycine. They've certainly made them more accessible without compromising on the quality, but they are sneaking steadily into the homage world, especially with drop.com exclusive releases. I'm happy that the brand is still around, not so happy about the increase in homage ref's. Bottom line, if they keep making the Glycine ref's we know and love they'll be fine. And this is from a guy who's not averse to a Steinhart or 2, as long as the watch being copied is no longer in production, I'm fine with an homage.

A week in to owning GL0431 and I am super impressed. Has not lost a second yet. Prolly anomaly for it to be this accurate out of the box. I cant over state the how light and thin this watch is. If you have compromised vision like I do I highly recommend this dial combo. Even without my readers I can tell time down to the second thanks to the marshmallow second hand and orange color. It is crazy this watch is only $330 in USA.

I agree! Just received my GL0408, absolutely beautiful! I admit that I changed the NATO strap immediately, as I do with almost every watch I buy, and I find too subjective to be evaluated as an attribute or deficiency of the watch. My tastes are centered on rubber/silicone, leather, or metal. But the GL0408 is amazing. Size, quality, & movement. I wish I could do a video on this watch, but I'm not very resourceful with that. Great review!

Truely underrated beater, the slenderness and comfort is second to none, even in much much higher price brackets. This watch with slightly better materials and made by Tudor (for exemple) would take the world by storm.

Agree Marvin!
@anthonysmith29823 жыл бұрын
Agreed Marvin. I paid something like $350 shipped for mine on a bracelet. The same blacked out DLC version. The proportions are perfect for my larger than average wrist and on a single pass canvas strap the presence and legibility on wrist is excellent, yet I sometimes forget I'm wearing it. I think mine has an SW200 on board. The crown action when re-engaging the hacked mov't can be a tell tale sign. I'm not 100% though... Either way, it's a healthy mov't running very well and quality throughout is ridiculously good for the price.

I have the bronze version with the vintage dial and it is definitely the most comfortable watch I own. I paired it with a custom strap made by sherpleatherworks and it fits perfectly with the look. I was also extremely lucky in regards to accuracy, after 1 month of constant wear mine is 1.5 seconds fast, and that's for the whole month and not per day! Hey. Great upload. I own the same Combat Sub ref.: the full DLC variant, it was on a bracelet, but I wear it on a 'desert sand' coloured military canvas strap from Haveston. Or a red perlon if I'm feeling jaunty! It's a great beater man. The only 'blacked out' piece I own. And it has that 'down to business' Combat look I expect from Glycine. Good to see that the quality hasn't dropped post Invicta. But the styling? I like this design and I wouldn't call it an homage by any stretch, despite the 3, 6, 9 dial. It may be referred to as an 'Explorer dial' - but Rolex don't own the 3 numeral + index layout. That said, some of the drop.com exclusive Glycine releases are pure homage... Pepsi bezel + cyclops on a Combat Sub?...Glycine should be better than that. Anyway - still a cracking watch, especially for under $500. Cheers mate. A.
@BraveBeaters3 жыл бұрын
Fully agree! thanks for your thoughts. A great beater for the price range! as for the drop release, I like them, still. If they will continue to do this in the future. They will end up being a secondary Steinhart, knows for making homages after Rolex.

@Tuấn Dũng Hey Dûng. Mine is PVD. I didn't really know my coatings back when I wrote ^, so sorry for the confusion. That said, the PVD coating has lasted ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ well. I'm not that hard on my watches but most end up with the usual micro-scratches or more. I use a Tisell Explorer 214270 copy as a beater sport watch and the Glycine as a beater dive watch (beach, water front, swimming etc.) and it doesn't have a mark on it: except under the lugs from bracelet removal/replacement. The bracelet is ᴠᴇʀʏ difficult to remove due to how tight the tolerances are + the apertures that allow you to get at the spring bars are small. I'm pretty rough with my bracelet and strap changes but even so the coating around the lugs has stood up well - better than polished stainless... Bottom line I wouldn't be concerned about the PVD coating. If you like the watch, buy it whilst they're at the current price. I passed up on buying an Airman DC-4 b/c I already have an Airman and now the prices have shot up, so I'm kicking myself... Glycines quality is ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ underrated imo.
@anthonysmith29823 жыл бұрын
@Tuấn Dũng True. They don't wear like the specs suggest. They're very thin - the Combat Sub is only 10.5mm as I'm sure you know and the lugs turn down pretty aggressively, so they really hug your wrist. I agree with your points about their style too. Sure, there's obviously a Rolex influence but there's a lot of design that makes the watch pure Glycine. It wears nothing like a Rolex (or a Rolex homage) and loses a heap of that Submariner silhouette that one sees in photos when the piece is in hand and more again when it's on wrist. I hope that you enjoy it Dûng, they're great, sturdy and unpretentious tool watches that wear like a dream.

My 2022 Combat Sub Automatic went back to their facility due to a faulty movement under warranty from Ashford. It wouldn't hand wind. Seems like some gears were stripped. Felt and sounded like that. They responded saying that these were not meant to be hand wound like a Seiko. Yeah, typical Invicta response. This is an ETA 2824 movement. Or at least a chinese licensed version. I should be able to hand wind this movement into 2053. I have two Glycines and I love them both but Invicta has ruined them, at least from a service and honesty perspective. I think entry to mid level watches are the best experiences. I dig brands like Certina, Ball, Marathon, Glycine, Fortis, Oris, Laco, and even Casio. I like watches that appeal to me and the price is secondary. But I expect good customer service no matter how much or little I spend.

I agree that it's a good, solid value that has some really nice features for the price, especially on the secondary market. But once you're in the secondary market Squale pieces can be found in the same price range and they are for sure a better overall value from a brand that has even stronger heritage and doesn't suffer from having been touched by Invicta. Would be interesting to compare the two in a video.
