Here's how GM's new-for-2014 twin-turbo 3.6-L V6 goes together, component by component. Animation created directly from GM's CAE files on this hot new V6.

Why is it that we can see great animations like this online. But when you spend $250.00 for the shop manual they are filled with drawings done by a 3rd graders.

This engine should mean one and only one thing first: a new Buick Grand National. The original is a cult classic that constantly beats book value with market value. Build it!!! And only in a coupe!!! Add better intake, water-to-air intercooler, reprogrammed ECM, and high-flow exhaust for 500hp +

Updated timing chains over its predecessor 3.6 DI VVT engine & 1,000 mi oil change intervals gm? The last thing u want is cooked turbo oil in something this expensive. Alot of crap has to come off to even fix that should either of the 2 issues above occurs:)

I got the 83 Jeep the last year they made the CJ5 which is the very short wheelbase. After that they deemed it dangerous because the wheelbase was so short mine had a 4-cylinder quite gutless. I'd love to put this B6 in there with the turbo to keep the front end light and then endless power for climbing Hills and mud bogs. The 4-cylinder will pull a damn house on solid concrete because of the gearing but damn when you get into mud or climbing a Dusty Gravely ill you need more power than a 4-cylinder can deliver.
@robywankenobi325 жыл бұрын
Love to put this in a VE commodore, however direct injection is not the greatest, needs aux port injection for cleaning the valve stems.

I don't understand why GM mounts the oil filter sideways like that. When I do my oil changes, I like to fill the filter before screwing it on so the oil immediately begins circulation upon startup. But try that on a sideways oil filter, the oil will just spill out while your screwing it on. Then at startup, the engine runs dry. I consider the angle of the oil filter a design flaw.
@nemesisanarchy15282 жыл бұрын
Well you supposed to prime the system before you start it anyway so maybe your just doing it wrong

That new 4.3 is going to be a nifty engine. Possibly lighter than an LS3. I've calculated it to be capable of 470hp with a cam, but that requires tampering with the direct injection system... which I haven't gotten my hands on yet.

@never010110 жыл бұрын
this set up as shown wouldn't work in the older malibu with a 3.6, as those use traditional exhaust manifolds, not to mention the fueling/tuning/transmission upgrades that are needed to support a turbo. as for the swap, i would say realistically no, as most caddys are set up with a longitudinal mount engine and the malibus are transverse mount. the routing of a lot of things are completely different between the two. that said, anything is possible with enough money and fabrication.

@cc2300110 жыл бұрын
Crazy! Is it rare at all that the use the exhaust ports in the head as the header for the turbos? I know the flathead v8 had the shared center port through the block but this is like an evolution of that concept thanks to ohv.. Doing this seems ingenious for a production car, the shortest length between exhaust valve and turbine will remove turbo lag. However seems it could be a bottleneck if someone went after big power. Not to mention all that heat in the cylinder head.
@andrewgannon6769 жыл бұрын
To be perfectly honest, I've never heard of this kind of set up. There's a video explaining how they did it here on youtube. It was kinda cool. But i've never heard of this kind of thing outside of shared exhaust ports on some of the really old flathead engines.

Better engine than the LS series??? HUH.. The LS series motors are one of the best things out there, I'm confused on this statement. I'm excited about this twin turbo option (factory), vs turbo charging a LS motor. Also having the turbo's on the side, should mean fairly easy ways of going bigger and better "Garrett, ball bearing, BIG"..

I owned a 01 silverado with the 6.0 before this truck and had 684k miles on her. Other than the regular maintenance of things, the only thing that went bad was reverse went out at 590k miles and the ABS sensors got fuckered up 3 times. @ploscar3378 жыл бұрын
cuz its the same engine on the camaro v6 ... just without the turbo.
@ardailsmith26268 жыл бұрын
+Oscar Juarez headers would increase the distance that the turbos would be from the engine, that would increase the turbo lag. the beauty of not needing headers is that the turbos bolt directly to the power plant making turbo lag practically a non issue.
@ploscar3378 жыл бұрын
+Ardail Smith im telling u that i have a 2014 v6 camaro.. And it does not have turbo... And with that single exit for the combustion gases its imposible put it on headers that i want for a better sound
@ardailsmith26268 жыл бұрын
+Oscar Juarez Now I understand your concerns. I have a 2012 V6, you and I have the same engine. The 2012 - 2015 V6 Camaros have the GM LFX engine that has a built in exhaust manifold. By removing the need for a separate exhaust manifold GM was able to make the 2012 - 2015 LFX's lighter at 345 lb compared to the 2010 - 2011 LLT at 361 lb. It also allowed the V6 to go from 304HP in the LLT to 323HP in the LFX. The engine in this animation is not the LFX without turbos. It is the LF3, very similar to the LFX. But with other modifications to support the turbos. If you really want headers you can drop your 2014 and get the 2010 or 2011 V6 you could look into a LLT swap on your 2014 or you can go up to a V8 if adding long pipes is what you want. I prefer the additional HP and less weight of the LFX and if I want to bump the sound up I could do that with a catback and CAI, and that would even raise my HP.
