Love the honest and sharing in hopes that others can learn from your mistakes ✊… FYI, you don’t have to change between phase 1, and phase 2 the only reason for doing that is to place the camshafts in a non-tensioned position. If you lineup, your right bank, your left bank and your drive chain and have all of the marks correctly then you will be lined up correctly for timing (as long as you are on the compression stroke)… if you don’t use the cam holders and don’t change the phase you just might have to manually turn the camshaft to get the left bank chain on the markers correctly . This is not advised because the cam can free spin to release tension and be a knuckle breaker lol …The right and left chains have to be 10 links between the intake and exhaust cam sprocket marks and the main drive chain is 17 chain links…. One last thing one mistake a lot of people make when doing phase 1 to phase 2 is that they don’t realize they have to turn the crank an additional 360° when REMOVING the chains to keep on the compression stroke, but then when reinstalling the chain, you just have to turn it to the next mark. 🧐

Done a few timing chain jobs gm 3.6vvt motors. No way I could do job with motor in vehicle. Thats impressive man. I include head gaskets with the job. Take heads to machine shop square and inspect valves and seals. Machine shop remove about 5-7 thousands off head, has been about average. Hasnt caused interference issues. Lastly clean up the mega amounts carbon from pistons. Sounds like a lot but not bad really. But again I pull the motor. Dont have a lift and pull motor out front..take off grill, bumper, radiator, condensor, etc etc. Not terribly involved but tedious. Time consuming. But knock on wood worked out so far. Thanks for posting vid.👍

If it's like mine the valve cover seals will leak if you didn't use silicone which you're not supposed to have use, but that's probably what is leaking down the back, I hear they're notorious for that.

Can you explain the third issue more? Timing to exhaust stroke. I'm having same issue but I'm figuring out how it can be backwards if the timing marks line up. Thanks
@kw57rx8dr.9
@kw57rx8dr.9 Жыл бұрын
You don't need the top dead center tool on a simple (?) timing chain repair do you? Only if you are changing cam phasers? I'm on my third time on a Cadillac CTS 3.0L and I think I may have mine correct this time🙏, it's so easy to do on a table where you can see the timing marks well, stupid Gm to put them on the bottom of the crank, but even still I've never seen one of these where it was running afterwards in the videos to know if they got it right or not? I'll know tomorrow when I finish but the vids I saw never said anything about top dead center just for changing timing belts and just that the cam flats needed to be up which was also not quite right because the heads are approximately 30 degrees so up to me is up. IMO, should have said even with the top of the head. Anyway, during assembly the intake on my left bank was not straight up even with the tool because the tools are not precisely machined but all timing marks etc. line up perfectly and of course the chains are also on their marks. So I'm wondering if a bad phaser can cause the cam to be out of alignment visibly? If my car still has a problem after finishing it tomorrow (godforbid!!) that's my next suspect.. BTW it's amazing that you didn't totally F this engine given it was so far out of time and it is an interference engine.

With it being an interference motor if timing is off even a little piston meets valve. Compression test to be safe. If not next video will be a motor swap.
@dcounce44
@dcounce44 2 жыл бұрын
I think the reason it jumped time during the 3-4 th try, it is a interference engine so if a valve hits the piston it will cause the chain to jump and or bend a valve.

I didn't turn the engine enough to seat the chains I think they said 5 rotations Now I rotate the engine a few times by hand and then pull the fuel and spark fuses and crank it with the starter about 4 cycles to make sure it's seated before trying to start it

Dude you forgot the upper hose clamp on the inlet hose. And by the way why it kept jumping timing on you was because the chain tensioners were not pumped up with oil pressure yet and the spring they put in them is just to hold enough tension to put the chain on and have it stay in place long enough to get the cover back on. On this specific engine I ALWAYS soak the tensioners over night in clean oil put them in the oil then pull the pin out and let them suck in oil over night rather. Yes they are a complete mother fucker to compress to out the pin back in but it is worth the colorful language you will learn during this process and ALWAYS USE AN A/C DELCO OIL FILTER the other filters will allow your tensioners to bleed off over night and you run into that problem once agin and change the oil every 2600 miles religiosity not the 5000 miles hat they say you can run them because that is complete bs all the way. Yea gm. I said it so 🖕🏼. And you will be good to go for many miles. Safe travels my dudes Oh and one more thing i forgot to mention to GM 🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼. Have a wonderful day fuckers

From what I see tiny amount of play is normal. There are a few videos out there that show a good one and a bad one next to each other. Couldn't tell you what channel though sorry. AC Delco shouldnt have any issues if its a new one. Those are built directly to OEM specs. I've only had issues with their electronic shit, not mechanical lol. Thanks for watching!

@@pmscalisi I changed out the cam phasers as well. Not good quality on those parts. I'm only assuming that the chain set is the same. I did notice that GM redesigned the chain for the better. Unfortunately for those who buy Dorman get the old design. Like my self. I would not recommend Dorman brand to any one. I've purchased Dorman switches for power side mirrors and power windows and they don't act like they are quality. I'm learning the hard way because I'm cheap. If you're flipping by Dorman they are cheaper. If it's your to keep don't buy Dorman.

The only explanation is someone messed up and put the old one back on because it wasn't worn and didn't realize the difference. Therre slight and after watching hundreds of these videos that's what I'm seeing because your right the exhaust are the same. The intake are different there made different so you can line up for timing purposes.
