A KZbin fan brought in his 2009 Chevy Traverse to the shop with a "SERVICE AIR BAG" message, and no communication to the SRS module.
Let's see if we can fix this one with almost no parts required :)

These vehicles are known for having water intrusion on the a pillar of both sides . water runs down the back of that fuse panel and causes all kinds of problems. Also runs down onto the amplifier on the driver side and causes the radio not to work.

I've seen Eric O at South Main Auto almost "get burned" on at least one of his videos because of a corroded fuse or fusebox terminals. I' d suggest that it's a good troubleshooting step to always pull a fuse and visually inspect it and its socket whether it tests good or bad.

What did i learn.. nothing, but here are some possibles. Check the power feed fuse on both sides, don't press too hard as it may only make contact through the crustys while you are pressing on it lol, a recent problem :) Make sure it's the correct ampage fuse (And the spares are not dead ones put there by the owner lol ). Don't go mad and rip things apart untill you restore power, check the correct colour wire to test :) Don't believe all the info the the owner says, it can be a smoke screen for the owner messing around. Have a hot drink, it lubricates the brain... ok ok i like tea and it gives me a break to think :-). i do talk a lot of crap lol.

Main power fuse to the airbag module being blown would not be caused by the seat connectors, it would be caused by the power feed wire to the module shorting out or the module itself. I suspect green meanies above the passenger fuse block from water leaks.

First priority is to check fuses. Then, if nothing there move ahead. Seems obvious someone was in there messing around previously. Lesson...not all customers give the full truth about the history of something. Usually, they forget to tell the mechanic "I or a friend was in there and shorted something out because we had no idea what we were doing". Would be nice if they told those stories to their mechanic...the end cost would likely be much less as the mechanic could figure the issue to be more simple than bad wires etc.

Hey Ivan can I ask you a question you might have an answer or idea for me. 2012 Chevy traverse brake light issue. There’s 4 taillights and 4 brake lights on the car which all 4 are dual filament 7443 bulbs. A few months ago all 4 brake light bulb filaments blew out but all 4 taillight filaments did not and the brake light fuse also popped. Replaced the fuse and all 4 bulbs and has worked fine for a few months and now once again all 4 brake light filaments blew out but this time did not blow the fuse. What do you think could be causing this issue and where would be a good direction to start with. Also to note the third brake light is not blowing out and after looking at wire diagrams the third brake light is not on the same circuit
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 4 жыл бұрын
I believe there known for brake light switch issues. maybe it's flickering them continuously while driving or staying on, more than off. both would make the bulbs cook. hot climates sitting in traffic/lines/parking lots with foot on the brake for long periods will shorten the life too. a broken filament can move and bridge across inside, possibly making a near short or back-feeding the marker light circuit, which would likely overload and blow fuses also.
