As long as there are things in GM that people seem to miss, more of these should be coming. Thanks for watching!

i think basically whats missing from themanual but essential to work more indepth on your game wuld make a good video. or things and ways that arent very obvious or popular. i think there are meny things to be covered as long as you have the time to spend on them. hopefully you will get more support.

I know this video is out of date now, but this is great for anyone either still using GameMaker: Studio 1.4 or for just learning the basic principles of the debugger.

Total legend, have diagnosed the issue with my game within 10 seconds of watching your tutorial. Subbed.

Yay! Glad I could help.

Also, thanks for these videos. You tend to cover the highly important, but less sensational things the typical GM KZbinr never covers in depth, if at all.

You're welcome! Really happy you find the content worth your time.

Even if GM2 gets an overhauled debugger, there are still a lot of us using GMS 1.4 due to the prohibitive costs of rebuying all of our modules. I suspect these videos will be valuable long after GM2 is officially released.

Thanks for showing me how breakpoints work, I've been trying to figure out how to debug menus for months now.

Nice! Glad this video still helped even though it is predictably out of date :D

"But, if the trend I'm noticing holds up, YoYo should be releasing a major overhaul for the debugger in GMS2 JUST after I release this video, immediately invalidating it." Hahahhaha...
@betatester036 жыл бұрын
There are still of quite a few of us using GMS, due to already having all of the export modules or large, difficult to migrate projects anyway.

Oh hello there Debugger. We meet again.

Is it well known that in the GMS debugger you can double-click a variable field in the "Selected Instance" and "All Instances" panes and edit variable values while the game's paused (by the debugger)? I never see anyone mention it, but it saves a ton of time otherwise lost to stopping the game/debugger, editing via the IDE, and rerunning the game interpreter and debugger every time you want to change a value.
@PixelatedPope6 жыл бұрын
It wasn't. Probably because it was broken in GMS1 for a very long time. Last time I tried to use it (when doing this tutorial, actually) it didn't behave in a consistent matter, so I didn't mention it.

Hi, I got a pretty bad problem, I can't use the debugger in GM. When I click on launch in debug mode I got a "Waiting for debugger to connect" message that never disappears and nothing really happens. I thought that there could be a problem with the fact that I had GM before it's release on steam and so I had two different installations directory one with the old GM and one with the new. So I unistalled both versions then re-installed the newest one but I still got the same issue. I've watch a bit on forums and stuff but nothing really revealent, it's just old posts that says that it can be problem of size of the project (don't think that's the problem here since I can't use debugger for any of my projects) or a problem of network communication, but those problems were fixed with an update of gms and there's not really a proper solution. any advice ?

It's also possible that you have a firewall or anti-virus that is blocking communications with the web server the debugger sets up on your local machine. But, yeah, this is a really tough problem to troubleshoot remotely.

Omg! Selected instances!? How the hell did I not know about this!?

Full disclosure: I didn't know about it either until I was doing my research for this video :D

Have you ever tried to step through tabbed scripts only to find that nothing is displayed in the source?
@PixelatedPope7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Tabbed scripts are a little bit sketchy. Not surprising they stopped supporting them with GMS2.
@brokenjava117 жыл бұрын
it's good to know it is a bug and i'm not going mental.
