GM Detroit Diesel 6-71 Engine Motor Running and Shut Down 2 Stroke THD 4512

Same engine as previous video (please see that one also), increasing RPM. She blows a little smoke, but not bad for being a 1953. Todays junk won't run 50 years from now, so I really take my hat off to this one. Being 2-stroke, she revs up pretty quicky, almost tipping the entire engine/bus frame over! Would be a lot of fun in a rat-rod, log splitter, etc. Nothing sounds like these anymore. This was one of the only truck road sounds people heard from basically 1940 to 1990. This engine will not see a smelter as long as I am alive. 12 volt, reverse rotation. Oil pressure shows 15psi at idle, which is more than enough (increases well with RPM).

I use to build heads for a diesel shop. I once built a set of 4v heads for a 12v-71T. It was in a massive dump truck. Love the sound of a detroit.

You nailed it on the head, todays JUNK is right! I still do not understand how mixing exhaust with urine is better for the air than soot from old school engines, could someone explain that concept to me, please? I'm sorry but I don't want to breathe urine no more than I'd want to drink it, and that is exactly what is coming out of the stacks of today's trucks, thanks E.P.A.!

Some of the smoke could be injector timing. Adjust height may help. I have the same engine, but some genius broke a rod. They think destroying something is very funny. Very sweet sounding 6-71.

Urea. Liquid nitrate, as in what is normally spread over a farm field to condition the soil. The great irony is that it's mean to reduce nitrous oxide emissions. Euro-5 spec engines are a lot cleaner than the older diesels, but more sensitive and complex than their ancestors. Electronic management has seen to it that they're as complex as any fuel injected engine in a passenger car, and in some cases, even more so

@DAF460 I know, I was just wondering, Because every oil is different and every oil has different properties, I was simply wondering if there were any additional additives. Which is irrelevant now, seeing as you've already answered my question.

no that's a different type of 2 stroke these are diesel engine what your talking about is like a 2 stroke lawnmower or something like that
