I've unironically lost 100 then gained 50 back... I seem to get the opening in order then i mess up the attack I don't know which side to push or which file to open up for my rooks/bishops. I'll figure out eventually tho

I've been having some good times playing the hippo since watching the series. I haven't been exclusively playing it, but have gone from 800 to 1000! After being stuck at 800 for over a year. Not sure what finally clicked but I know this series was a part of it. Also watching Eric Rosen a lot. My name is also Eric. With the power of Eric, Eric and Eric, I have achieved 1000. The funny thing about this speedrun is that in the beginning Eric determined that this setup was really only for black, but as the speedrun progressed his victories with white have been absolutely, disgustingly devastating

Tried the hippo playing my buddy OTB 2 nights ago and he blundered his rook to my fianchettoed bishop just like in this speed run. Won the game comfortably. This opening is awesome.

A few months ago I've become a Hippo maxi... you can play it vs everything with white or black and it's kinda easy to get a feel for it. Why waste time learning 1000 different opening lines if your not a pro... just learn the Hippo and be happy lol

The hippo won't help you win. It will help you save hours memorising lines. You then need to spend those hours learning middlegame ideas, endgame ideas and doing tactics puzzles until your eyes bleed. Chess is a bitch, but by playing the hippo I am happy not to be spending my time memorising and forgetting lines in various gambits. This speedrun is really cool. Generally there are a few pawn pushes to play in the middlegame and then Eric shows you how to execute them, although mostly at this stage it is just a case of punishing blunders!

I've been playing the Hippo online with good results. OTB I only played it a long time ago and I won. The problem is the Austrian attack. Black must be careful.

Also check out Aman's building chess habits series, it is gold and will set you up for a bigger rise. Most people sub 1500 (myself included!) throw away pieces every game.. learn how to punish terrible play and it will take you far.

I've been playing the hippo since you started this speed run, and I've had a lot of success with it. Why do the opponents insist on hanging pieces? It doesn't make any sense to me. They just self destruct.
