You hit on a massive and startling truth-chess is 99% subconscious, the main point of strategy and tactics training and the reason it takes so many repetitions over and over similar puzzles similar concepts similar games is because that's how you teach your subconscious

You should still go for the jerome when they bring the knight out instead, I actually find that i have more success with that, but after you gambit the knight you do d5 then e6 to hit the knights, then bring out the queen with a check. It’s like a delayed Jerome. But idk how well it’d work against higher level players i guess

What an amazing mind he has... Hikaru, any way you could explain your moves a bit so us idiots might learn better ways to think about chess positions? It is insane that you can play so well while having random conversations about politics and gold. Not like you need/take any advice, just wanted to throw that out there. I'd personally watch a lot more if it was a bit more instructional.

LOL. When I was 1900 I got a draw from a GM. A friend of who was 1900 beat a GM in a major swiss. That was in the 1970s for my friend and in the 1980s for my draw. I'm old now and hopelessly on my floor rating and haven't played a tournament in about decade.

They don’t make 1900s like they used to because loads of people play blitz and just play tricks and gambits but don’t play solidly making them difficult to beat. Not all but many. That’s what I’ve found.
