Thanks for the video..Ghannoum just got out classed by Kasparov.. But watching Kasparov (on the left), not sure if he panics, or just can't sit still.. He could at least take that jacket off..

On a chess board, or paste it on an online chess analysis board. You could also use a chess software like fritz.

@vhzulu I guess it's relative, but Ghannoum's ELO is 2230 in my database. While not a grandmaster, he is a very good player. Blitz is also different than standard games, where you have 2 hours for the game.

Doctor Marc Ghannoum is Canadian. His first language is French, though his English is excellent. His parents emigrated from Syria originally, but he was born and raised in Montreal.

@omer88f I never said that it was algebra. What I meant was algebraic chess notation, which this type of chess notation is called. And if you can read it I don't understand your original comment at all. Why can't you just use an ordinary chess board?

@MarcoBJJ11 You're in the 2200 league, and as such you did stand your ground pretty well against the "1000 eyes monster", bearer of the best elo rating that never got into a man's grasp. Kudos to you, and just ignore the haters. They're jealous.

@royplayer In case you didnt know a draw is possible in some instances when the ending is of opposite coloured bishops and two pawns down. The defending side has to build a fortress.

It saddens me to see the mean spirited comments about this video. Some have asked who FM Ghannoum is. Although I have not seen him in years, I have the pleasure of knowing him, and can assure you that he is also a brilliant man -- one who gave up his dream of becoming a world class chess player in order to study medicine. In his field, Ghannoum daily makes a positive difference in the world. Yes, GK is the greatest chess player ever, but Ghannoum has every right to enjoy these games.

@nitotech You need a minimum rating of 2500 FIDE and 3 GM "Norms" Which means 3 tournaments with other Gm's playing, where you have a tournament performance rating of 2650 (I think, might be 2600)

Not many understand how difficult it is to become an expert at chess. "Expert" is a category used to describe very strong players, most of whom have dedicated decades of study to playing the game well. Even so, the vast majority of serious players are unable to reach this level. Moreover, the level of "expert" is two full categories below what Dr. Ghannoum has reached. A tiny fraction of a percent of serious players will ever reach the level he's achieved as a part-time player.

Kasparov beat French super GM Vachier Lagrave a few months ago, although he is away from competitive chess for like 6 years. He still seems to be in great shape. Also, nobody can criticise the FM for playing on. Of course he will, until a moment when he sees that there is no reasonable move remaining on the board. As most of the people does.

@SplitYoWigBack The timer is a great machine used to count things, such as cooking devices, fuckin faded, vanish, anything that you can do to reset aggro. "There is no aggro reset"
@hangrid12 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting presumption and I'll address it. Obviously I can't speak for Dr.Ghannoum, but I think it's fair to say that many who follow chess would have given him a fair chance at becoming a GM. He was a master at a young age and always showed promise. What does becoming an "ordinary" GM get you? Answ: Typically, GMs are impoverished nomads who travel from tournament to tournament for a few hundred dollars per week. It's not glamorous except maybe for the 20 best of 500 or so GMs.
@nitotech12 жыл бұрын
if you beat a grandmaster does that make you a grandmaster? How do you become GM?

Why bother to film it when one cannot see the board and follow the moves?
Perhaps a few precisions are in order. 1) I'm NOT a grandmaster, just a simple master who got to play his chess idol. 2) Although the result was NEVER in doubt, it was somehow competitive. 3) With only 1 minute to play, it was absolutely justified to continue playing, until I lost the exchange. There are drawing tendencies with bishops of opposite color. To those who think I should have resigned when I knew I was lost, I could have done so on the first move!

3rd Millennium Chess is the future of chess. It is the revolution in the evolution of chess. The whole chess establishment is obsolete, there are no masters or grand masters now. You want to master chess then you must master 3MC and that may take a lifetime. Good luck and welcome to the future.
