Not only that. There's a game that he could have taken with a bishop with check, and solved his problems. Think Simon lacks practice. Need 3 hrs blitz everyday.

Just watched Eric Rosen's video "chess is confusing", which was directly before this video in my subscriptions. It's about the Nescafé Frappé line in the benko, which I've never heard in all those years. Now first in Eric's video and in the third game of this video. Crazy coincidence. I have to say Simon knew the opening much better, Eric was wasting half of his time before move 10.

Ginger, the really great thing about you is not even the beer and the beard, but the fact that, although you're a GM, you make believe you're just an inspired amateur, thereby making us all feel good about ourselves and our shortcomings in chess! Thanks for your streams. They have saved many a sleepless night for me! Last but not least: I hope that's not Ginger Beer! And the very last thing: Please keep referring to your opponent in the singular: this "they"-thing is very much in vogue, especially in America, but it hurts because it really is silly.
@T-money916
@T-money916 3 жыл бұрын
It's not "en vogue". It's the way we speak. Just like Simon makes an "f" sound instead of our traditional "th" sound when saying many words. Which I don't consider silly. It's just a difference in our respective dialects. That being said, we definitely don't speak the most proper English, on average. Take it sleazy Lars 😉
@leoblum0631
@leoblum0631 3 жыл бұрын
@@T-money916 Now I really get discombobulated! "En vogue" or "in vogue". Same. More importantly: if my opponent in chess is "they" than I should be "we", shan't I? The Brits normally tend to avoid this linguistic discrepancy, inspired as it is by the carefree casualness of the American vernacular, by either giving a gender to the opposite colour (he/she) or, as Simon mostly says: "My Opponent is finding good moves, but He's not supposed to find good moves!"
@virajdeshpande3701
@virajdeshpande3701 Жыл бұрын
It's just simple grammar. When you're unaware or uncertain of someone's gender, you address them as "they." It's particularly useful when addressing anonymous users on the internet. It has nothing to do with singular or plural. In this context, it's neutral singular. And it's not "in vogue," it's common practice in English-speaking countries, and this meaning of "they" has been in the dictionary for ages.
@leoblum0631
@leoblum0631 Жыл бұрын
@@virajdeshpande3701 There is no reason whatsoever to call your opponent "they", unless the opponent happens to consist of more than one player. It is just stupid and a stupidity that gains terrain by the minute at that. "My opponent" is fine. Black or White is fine too. But not "THEY""!!!
@virajdeshpande3701
@virajdeshpande3701 Жыл бұрын
@@leoblum0631 It's not stupid at all. This definition of "they" has literally been in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a "singular antecedent" for ages. It's not wrong, nor is it uncommon. Besides, I'm an English Graduate who works as a writer for clients in the UK, the US, and Australia. This is how English is spoken. You're incorrectly opposing a practice that has been in use for decades, especially in English literature. Just let the man speak how he wants to.
