GMA Rainbow Satellite: Where You Belong Station ID - May 1994

On April 30, 1992, as part of a new ambition to reach viewers abroad, GMA again rebranded its network identity. The new logo is a rainbow, an evolution of the rainbow add-on for the 1979 logo used from the late-80s to 1992, beamed by a satellite with the colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet of which the rainbow logo design would continue until 2002. The GMA letters are colored in blue and uses a Futura Extra Bold font. Underneath its logo is their slogan from 1975, "Where You Belong" in the Eurostile font.
GMA Network (Global Media Arts or simply GMA), is a Philippine free-to-air television and radio network. It is the flagship property of publicly traded GMA Network, Inc. Its first broadcast on television was on October 29, 1961. GMA Network (formerly known as Republic Broadcasting System, GMA Radio-Television Arts and GMA Rainbow Satellite Network) is commonly referred to as the Kapuso Network in reference to the outline of the company's logo. It is headquartered in the GMA Network Center in Quezon City and its transmitter, Tower of Power, is located at Tandang Sora Avenue, Barangay Culiat also in Quezon City with regional stations and offices strategically located in over 9 major cities across the country. The original meaning of the GMA acronym was Greater Manila Area, referring to the initial coverage area of the station. As the network expanded it changed into Global Media Arts. The flagship television station of GMA is DZBB-TV (GMA-7 Manila) which carries VHF Channel 7 (analog broadcast) with Channel 15 served as a permanent assigned digital frequency. The network operates across the Philippine archipelago through the GMA Regional TV department which has 5 originating stations and 48 relay stations nationwide. Its programming is also available outside the Philippines through the Philippine pay television channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International which is available through satellite and cable TV systems worldwide. Since 2013, GMA has been testing digital terrestrial television broadcasts using the Japanese standard ISDB-T, in select areas in the Philippines.

It just goes to show how balanced GMA's programming was back then. Pero ang naging bentahe talaga nila ay yung mga US series, mga Walt Disney cartoons at movies, mga iba pang cartoons, and of course, the NBA games. At bago pinanganak ang "Astig Authority"/"We are Anime" eh "Worry Free Kid TV" muna ang nauna. At wala din pa sila masyadong sariling artista noon, kaya kinupkop muna nila ang ibang mga artista ng Viva. Mas nauna kasing nabuo ang Talent Center ng ABS CBN.

Hindi pa ganoong kalaki o karami ang production facilities ng GMA at that time (‘yung dalawang maliit na studio sa EDSA plus sa Broadway lang) compared to ABS (which had just gotten its entire broadcast complex back pag-alis ng PTV). Plus it was probably more cost-effective for them at that time na bumili ng foreign shows kaysa mag-produce ng mas maraming local shows completely in-house (iilan lang ang network-produced entertainment shows nila that time).

FYI, lumipat ang Eat Bulaga! sa GMA noong January 28, 1995 dahil umalis na sa ABS-CBN after almost 6 years kaya na-expired na yung kontrata nila kasunod ang Valiente noong January 30 at Okay Ka, Fairy Ko! noong February 2 (two of these shows continue until they both ended in 1997). In the meantime, papasok din pala si Karen Davila from 1994 hanggang sa siya'y umalis sa GMA in 2000 and in 1995 the following year, she is Mike Enriquez's co-host of Decision '95: Operason Bantay Boto during election hanggang sa sila'y naging 2 anchors ng Saksi after 5 months since it premiered on October 2. Noong 1995 din, lumipat si Mel Tiangco sa GMA mismo at nagiging co-anchor siya ng Saksi alongside Enriquez and Davila. Nagsimula yung Partners Mel & Jay noong May 5, 1996 matapos siyang lumipat sa parehong network so this was a result of the 1995 Tide commercial which had led to her exile from ABS-CBN together with fellow journalist Jay Sonza (although he remained hosting in Tapatan). The show was supposed to premiere on the same day of that year, however it initially caused controversy after ABS-CBN filed an complaint to block the show's premiere telecast, which was subsequently granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 101. ABS-CBN argued that Tiangco and Sonza still has a contract with the network which was supposed to expire on April 30, 1997, which prohibits them to appear in other television or radio stations without prior written approval of the network.

Considering na nagyayabang yung ABS-CBN at that time regarding their new found international reach to North America through TFC hence they got away with it in showing the color inverted clip of GMA's '94 SID. Too bad ABS-CBN lost its hold on TAPE (Eat Bulaga, Valiente), M-Zet (Okay Ka, Fairy Ko), Mel Tiangco and Jay Sonza to GMA as the year unfolds, so its quite a karma for them.

Nope. The Cosby Show. Walang Philippine network ang nag-ere ng Fresh Prince, to the best of my knowledge. Sa cable lang meron no’n (it was on locally-owned but non-SkyCable-operated all-English specialty channel back in the mid-‘90s called The Hollywood Channel)

Fresh Prince of Bel Air was aired on GMA, even Johnny Depp's 21 Jump Street. But, just like the other acquired US series of the network, they were all transferred to Citynet when they opened in 1995
