I work for a space that is also usable as an event venue and have conceived of and put on a couple of small events. It’s a lot more work than you might think and super stressful when you are juggling selling enough tickets to cover what you are promising and then delivering on what you promised and hoping it meets peoples expectations. Sometimes I think about trying to start an event planning company like this because it can be really fun - but it’s super risky. And, to be successful, you really need to have the resources up front to cover the costs and then hope to get that and more back from ticket sales, not just hope to pay for it all out of ticket sales, which I think is what this and the wonka thing were hoping for.

For similar fancy events tickets start at $250 for half-assed effort. When they offer things like contests with prize money, it not only lowers the quality but gives you a measurement to go by- prize is $2000? Tickets only $100? The prize money is coming out of the ticket payment, and you don't expect THAT many people to show up to something niche. It's not their fault for being trusting even after that, but this place is not gonna do much more than what they already have and nothing will come of it. Just a line of scams, would not be surprised if they're behind one of the other events.

When planned properly, tickets to events like this cost thousands. These events actually are legitimate and have been happening for many years in Europe; in the UK they're called Regency Balls, and will be hosted at either a castle or a stately mansion, and last a long weekend. But they are pricey to attend because of all the things included and provided (as the tickets are sold all-inclusive except for accommodation costs). But yeah, each Regency Ball happens once a year, and they always sell out fast. $150 wouldn't even touch the sides though; it was an expensive lifestyle back then, and it would be an expensive lifestyle today lol.
