Haven't you also heard of promoters who organise Rap and R&B weekenders with 70 acts without contacting their agents? They will book the venue/public space and wait for the acts to contact them to refuse or argue about the fee that they want. Young local promoters keep trying stunts like these...
@WhitExNoodlEАй бұрын
@@matthewprince9705 ugh omg yeah, I used to be apart of a lighting crew and they created a lot of tough nights for us.. We learned to collect a few hours into the event and if they didn’t have it we would shut it down and start packing up. It’s because they never had all the money up front, they relied on attendance. So we would get screwed if the turn out didn’t make them at least break even.

I attended a friends ball in London back in 2012 and I remember, the family paid 500 euros for my ticket. I was her escort and let me tell you, IT WAS A FCKING BALL! I think I just spent a good thirty minutes looking like a dunce, just staring at the venue. Those recessed ceilings and stucco walls, I felt like a country hick who'd just stepped out to the city.

I can agree however, many events like these are one offs where a group of people get together with an event coordinator to make it happen. People with no business license successfully throw events all the time. I myself used to be part of a lighting company and I would say it’s around 40% of the work we had. And sadly it’s rare for a production crew to still be around just throwing niche events like this anymore.. only for big annual events like festivals
@sovereign4107Ай бұрын
It’s not like they were promising a whole festival or something. It’s pretty reasonable to assume someone could pull this off.
@WhitExNoodlEАй бұрын
@@sovereign4107 a music event is pretty straight forward and not much you have to curate on your own, whole industries cater to this. Lights, sound, DJs/entertainment, venue, drink/food concessions, security and bathrooms. Events as niche and immersive as this would be harder because you would need all that AND more. Costuming, performers, off the cuff on themed forms of entertainment, etc.. but absolutely not impossible or difficult if you knew all the vendors for all the things you wanted to use.

I believe it's even hard for LEGITIMATE promoters to put on events. Many rock, R&B and pop acts are still being booked in arenas only to find their audience has dropped by 50%. They used to get 15,000+ fans now it's less than 7,000. Nobody wants to pay arena ticket prices at $200 + fees from Ticketmaster. They wanna go to a local venue that holds 2,000 and have an affordable more personal experience with better sound, closeness to the singer, hot food and seating. A legitimate promoter would have looked at holding an event like this, done a costs/profit analysis and said wrong city, wrong class of people, no official endorsement and not profitable...

This was probably one of those "first time" companies throwing this, like a throwaway brand they just came up with, for the sake of this event. That said, the only research they could do, would be to run a background check on the organizers themselves, which let's face it: is a bit unreasonable.
