@dominatethegmat3 жыл бұрын
Interesting timing on your question, as Poets&Quants just published this article suggesting that GMAT/GRE scores are less important (and in some cases no longer even asked for) at top consulting firms: poetsandquants.com/2021/05/09/a-gmat-score-no-longer-a-big-deal-for-mbb-jobs/. I personally spoke with a top hiring manager recently who confirmed that they view the GRE and GMAT the same now, so if you are asked for your score, a GRE score should be fine.

When does one take the GMAT and the GRE?
@dominatethegmat7 жыл бұрын
They're each offered nearly every day throughout the year in the United States, and quite regularly in other countries around the world as well. You should work backwards from your application deadline(s). If your application is due in January, for example, you should plan to take the GMAT/GRE in October or November (or December at the latest). That way you have time to retake it in the even you don't get your target score the first time around. And then of course you'll want to back up another couple of months in terms of when you should start studying for the exams. In fact, now is the perfect time to start your preparations!

In the question at 12:11, should not D be the answer? x=-5 and x=5 are the answers. Are we restricted to only have 1 value of x ??
@dominatethegmat4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we definitively need to know the value of "x" according to the question. Statement 2 yields two possible values for "x" so if I asked you, "Hey, Samantha, what is the value of x?" You would say, "Well, x either equals -5 or 5." And I would respond, "Ummm, that doesn't help. Which one is it?" Since you can't definitively tell me what "x" equals according to Statement 2, it's NOT SUFFICIENT.

Is it necessary to take one of these tests to apply to MBA ???
@dominatethegmat7 жыл бұрын
Most business schools / MBA programs require some form of entrance exam as part of the application process, yes. That said, there are exceptions -- especially when you start looking outside of the Top 50, at part-time programs, or internationally (though many top European and Asian schools require the GMAT as well). If your goal is to avoid these tests, search for "MBA programs that don't require GMAT" and you'll see plenty of lists. But in general my advice is to use other, more important criteria for determining which schools to apply to. Good luck and let me know how else I can help!

The GRE General Test is the "main" GRE exam that would be a substitute for the GMAT when applying for an MBA. GRE subject tests are subject-specific tests that are required by some programs that want you to demonstrate proficiency in a very specific subject area. For example if you were going for a PhD in Chemistry, they might want you to take the GRE Subject Test for Chemistry.

The GMAT is scored on a 200-800 point scale (Quant and Verbal combined), with a separate score for your essay and Integrated Reasoning sections. A score of 540 is pretty average. A score over 700 puts you in the top 10%. I'm not sure I know what you're talking about when you say they're recommending "MBA Math." Does that mean they want you to take a supplemental math course prior to applying to show that you have the quantitative skills to succeed in business school? If so, I've heard of schools suggesting that for candidates who had poor grades in their undergrad math classes. But if "MBA Math" is an actual program or test or something, I'm not familiar with it.

Many of the top Canadian business schools now accept the GRE in addition to the GMAT, so you should start by checking the admissions requirements of the schools you plan on applying to (consult their websites or call the admissions offices). CGPA? Does that mean "college" GPA? Your undergraduate GPA is part of the admissions criteria when applying to business school, yes. It's weighed alongside your GMAT/GRE score, resume, recommendations, and interview. But there's not GPA requirement for actually taking the GMAT or GRE, if that's what you're asking. In fact, a strong GMAT/GRE can help make up for a low GPA, so it's definitely an important component of the application process.

I have been looking at two programs in health care management to apply for in the future and I've noticed the following. The first was a full-time MBA with Healthcare Management track where they say online frankly GMAT is preferred to GRE (business school). However, they accept both. The second was a part-time Master degree program at a prestigious grad school of public health where they requested a GRE or MCAT for application. I want to apply for both programs. What do you recommend? I feel the GRE can fly for both but my competence in Grammar is far beyond my Vocabulary, I believe so. I'm an MD physician . Are there any statistics about doctors' results comparing GMAT to GRE?
@dominatethegmat8 жыл бұрын
I have a doctor going through my GRE course right now and he's doing pretty well with the math, but I don't have specific statistics for doctors' results on the GMAT vs GRE, no. Yours is an interesting situation. Based on the fact that you definitely want to apply to both programs and both accept the GRE, I'd suggest starting there. If you do well enough on it, it'll pull extra weight with the MBA in Healthcare Management program and theoretically make up for the fact that they'd prefer the GMAT. If they say they accept both, then they won't turn away your application. So you might as well try to kill two birds with one stone if you can. Worst case, the first program wait-lists you or specifically requests a GMAT, at which point you can switch gears and start studying for the GMAT, too. The good news is that much of what you'll learn for the GRE on the quant side (and reading comp on the verbal side) will translate to the GMAT, so it'll speed up your learning curve. Make sense?
@ahmedbayoumi13458 жыл бұрын
yes , it makes a lot of sense . Thank you so much. I agree with you. The GRE is the way to go to be eligible to apply for both programs in the future.

I don't get why A is the correct choice and not D in the given example. X is simply the square root of 25. No more details is needed. X might be positive int, negative int, or even a function; doesn't matter. The value is still the square root of 25. There is no definition of what 'value' means here. By picking A, we claim that value means a positive integer only. Just explain why the 'square root of 25' is not a value, please.

@@zv9991 Gotcha, my apologies. I had forgotten that I actually went through some sample questions in this video. The way it works on the GMAT is that if you have a quadratic equation like x^2 = 25, if you were to actually solve that quadratic equation, you would find that "x" could either be +5 or -5. It has two roots, in other words. Since you don't know definitively, Statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT. However, if you instead had been told that x = √25, that operates as a function and the answer is x = +5. That would have been sufficient. It's a small but important nuance. Good question.
