@LukasHaffer3 жыл бұрын
@@rodolfosierracarrillo8524 Stanford stood out to me mainly because of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It is truly unmatched. The proximity to silicon valley, the professors who often founded or led unicorns themselves, the classmates who are working on one or two ideas on the side,... all of this felt uniquely alive to me. I did not want to go to business school to become a manager made to work in a large corporation. I wanted to embrace my entrepreneurial spirit and Stanford is the place to do so. It also helped that Stanford has significantly better stats than all other schools (i.e., selectivity e.g., avg. GMAT is 10 points higher, avg. GPA is 3.8 vs. 3.6 at HBS, .... and outcomes avg. salary is highest by far, number of unicorn founders per 1000 students is highest with 3). Overall my analysis just led me to conclude that this is the best business school in the world, which also fits my entrepreneurial nature.

Hello Lukas, thanks a lot for the video, it was very insightful! I wanted to ask you a couple of questions, if you have the time. What are your thoughts on (i) attending the events that the schools set up, and (ii) reaching out current students or alumni? Do these two things help? - Events > Can't see how. If they do, could you explain how? - Reaching out alumni and students > Where within the process? I can only see that name-dropping in the interview could be beneficial maybe?
@LukasHaffer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Guillofanto, thanks for your feedback. I think the events give a first impression of what the school is like - friendly, helpful staff and a culture of "change lives, change organizations, change the world". Reaching out to current students to learn about the MBA program is definitely useful. You will get different perspectives on how to utilize the MBA to reach your personal growth goals. Alumni and current students can also give you a feeling for what kinds of people you would meet at Stanford (smart, driven/ambitious but kind and authentic). Saying that you spoke with students and alumni might help show that you did your research and are really applying to the school that is the right fit (culture, atmosphere, course offering, ...) for your goals! Some of them worked out, some of them didn't. I talked a little about that in some of my essays and I think it highlights a part of my personality that fits well into MBA programs (i.e., responsible leadership). I am also thinking about doing a short series of videos on early career advice. Thanks a lot for sharing the video. I, personally wanted to ask a question. I gave my GMAT back in 2021 and am currently working with the Big 3 consulting firms. I want to pursue an MBA afterwards. When do you think I should start applying in the business schools provided the fact that I have just 6 months of work experience as of now. It'd really mean the world to me if you could reply to this. Thanks Lukas!
@LukasHaffer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anushka, thanks for your comment and your great question. Congratulations on doing the GMAT already. Regarding work experience: most MBA students have 3-5 years of work experience at the time of application. The reason for this is, that the MBA classroom experience relies heavily on everyone bringing in former work experience. This has two sides: A) you get more out of your classes if you can relate them to challenges that you faced in your prior work. B) you classmates learn from you sharing best practices or interesting facts from your prior work experience. Overall, this means that however long you work before you apply to business school, you should bring some significant experience and the MBA should be the right next step to prepare you for your mid-term goals. My recommendation for now: Go out into the world and make an impact. Work for 1-2 years and really apply yourself. Take responsibility for improving things around you. When the time comes and you think an MBA would be the right next step, you will have accumulated an extraordinary track record of impactful work. Applying to business school will be the easy part then ;) KR Lukas

Hi! Thank you so much for your video! Btw I have only one year work experience. Is that enough to apply?
@LukasHaffer3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Love US, I am happy you found the video engaging. Concerning your question: there is not one perfect amount of work experience, but the average is ca. 4-5 years and even 2-3 years are judged to be on the lower end. Do you think you will have strong personal growth working another year? If so, go work another year. Your profile tends to get stronger with more experience up until ca. 5 years. Also, have a look at what the classes at your target schools look like. There are some differences and your classmates will appreciate you coming in with a similar amount of experience. Because all the classes thrive on you contributing based on situations within your pre-mba career.

Congrats and thank you! It would be great if you could do a step by step video on filling out the online app. I sent my questions to HBS adcom in June but still no response 😕. My questions were: 1. How can I confirm if HBS rec'd my GMAT and TOEFL scores? Or it's not necessary to confirm. 2. The 3 awards and extra.activities boxes in the application should be different than what's listed on the resume or ? 3. In the employer section there are boxes for role and responsibilities. If I held 3 different positions with a same employer, can I include all responsibilities or only from my latest position? Thanks much!
@LukasHaffer3 жыл бұрын
Ok, so first of all: I am not the admissions committee, so take my answers with a grain of salt (no guarantees 😉). 1. For me they reached out after not receiving confirmation on the GMAT and I had a few days to send it again. Normally the initial selection of schools you chose to send your GMAT to, will receive it without issues. 2. I would try not to provide redundant information (=do not just say the same thing again), but shedding more light on something by providing more details about the selectivity (e.g., 3 out of 3,000 applicants) or reasoning (e.g., describe your extraordinary performance that led to the award) is a great chance. 3. Yes, I would highlight the most important responsibilities out of all the positions one has held. In your CV it sometimes makes sense to break out the different positions, as it shows your progress in your young career. I hope these answered helped you a little. You can btw also call the b-schools to ask for some information.

@@LukasHaffer awesome thank you! It does help! adcoms usually don’t give this detailed answer. They tend to give generic answers lol.

Hello, Fantastic video definitely going to subscribe! Do you know which age is the best to apply for a mba? And also does age matter, like 32 or above for the application proces? Thanks in advance!
@LukasHaffer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Fahim, thanks for the great feedback. The average age of an MBA student is ca 29, with people mostly ranging from 26-33 - there are however exceptions with some students coming in as old as 40. The more important question is: Is the MBA the right next step in your career? Does it enable you to do what you want to do afterwards? If so, apply! KR Lukas

The biggest issue I found when applying was that my company didn’t wanna get me leave :S It got weird when I had to ask them for recommendation letter

I understand. I was in a similar situation, but chose to have an open conversation with the CEO of my firm about how I was thinking about the future. He gave me great advice and we identified the MBA as the right next step for my development - so he ended up supporting me with his strong recommendation. Maybe this perspective might be valuable for you, too. KR Lukas

Can y share how to get executive MBA in Europe? Gmat score, scholarship and life after that. Thank You
@LukasHaffer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Fardin, thanks for your comment. I have never really looked into executive MBA. However many of the tips I shared concerning MBA admissions probably still apply here. On the GMAT: Have you looked at the class averages for the programs that you are targeting? That already gives you an impression of what kind of score you would need (then taking into account whether you need to offset a relatively low GPA or any other weakness in your application). For the rest of your questions, I am actually curious whether there are people speaking about it knowledgeably on youtube. Pls share if you find some good resources :)

Hi, thank you for the video! Would you happen to know if an MiM from ESSEC Business School, France (ranked #3 globally for the program) is somewhat equivalent to doing an MBA from one of the Tier-1 (not Ivy League) Schools in terms of job prospects and salary? Thank you!
@LukasHaffer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Drake, in order to answer that question I would look at the profile of the incoming classes in each of these schools and the outcomes in the career reports. That will give you an idea. Geography is also a major factor (i.e., do you want to work in France, Germany, Britain, the US, Asia, ...?). KR Lukas
